Rio Grande Cafe

This is the first time we've been to the Rio Grande Cafe at its new location. We had a wonderful time. We went for lunch. We had our sons with us, so we ordered thw chips and salsa appetizer, a kids chicken Rio Grande taco, a kids beef Rio Grande taco, and steak fajitas for my husband and I to share. We had lots of food. It was delicious. We loved the ambiance and the staffing was excellent. We will definitely be back.

Best Mexican in town. I’ve never had a bad meal here. Food is always hot and delicious, and service is on point. Definitely recommend.

What a refreshing experience- super friendly and efficient service with people who actually smiled, accommodating, talked to by two managers, excellent communication, tall glasses of ice water even - not warm tap water in small glasses. Manager actually looked up and said “thanks for coming in when we left”. Food arrived perfectly prepared and super tasty. No corners cut. Open light environment. Cool bar and atmosphere. A great value. Like when people really cared and gave a damn. Will Definitely come back!

We stopped here after flying in to Salt Lake City while on our way to Moab. The staff was super friendly and helpful. We ordered the Two Taco Plate w/ black beans (vegan style), a Chicken Enchilada Dinner, Beef Chimichanga w/beans & rice and a side of queso. We all found our meals to be tasty and the environment was great. Can recommend!

I really enjoyed this dining experience. The carnitas were tasty. I enjoyed the beverage I ordered but could have done without the tajin in the drink. The service was great. The vibe and atmosphere was fun. I would definitely come back and I recommend that you try.

My husband and I were visiting Salt Lake City from San Francisco. We were so hungry and driving around we found Mexican place called Rio grande. We decided to try and it was amazing. We love the place, clean, good quality of food and the server Cinthya was very helpful and kind.

We went for a retirement lunch for one of my dear co-workers. My first time eating there. Everything was delicious! Great salsa and chips! The bean dip is so tasty as well. Loved my carne asada salad!!

Great food with plenty of options. I particularly love the fish tacos. I have mine with grilled fish. The sauce is a bit spicy and so flavorful. I also like to salads, burritos and chips and salsa. Service is always quick and the place has good energy. My go to for Mexican when near the campus up at the U of U.

My wife and I went with another couple and all for of our dinners were exceptional!
Loved the food, right down to the fresh chips, salsa, and yummy fresh guacamole!
Excellent service as well!

Great food. Great building and atmosphere. What a great job converting the old fire station to an authentic Mexican cafe/restaurant.
The salsa is to die for. After 3 bowls, I had to quit and leave or get a wheelbarrow to wheel me out.

Our family has to eat at the Rio Grande Cafe every time we're in Salt Lake City because it is just that good and is always a great experience. The food is outstanding (I highly recommend the Super Burrito) and the staff (especially today's server Katie) is always exceptional.

The new location is beautiful, well-lit and has a wonderful ambiance.

Beautiful building that is nicely decorated in a cheerful way. The chips and salsa, pork chimichanga and vegetable enchiladas were all very good. The service was good too.

My family and I love the Rio Grande. Today out waitress was particularly awesome. She went above and beyond making our meal enjoyable for all of us, especially our 13 month old granddaughter.

Met some friends for dinner. We had tacos and fajitas. Food was delicious. Margaritas were amazing as always.

This was my first stop into SLC. The comforting authentic food was amazing and exactly what I needed after a long flight. My waiter was extremely friendly and helpful. He also suggested wonderful options in the city for ne to try out during my visit.

Lunchtime service was quick and very friendly. More than one employee kept asking how everything was. The food was well done at an ok price. The location was a convenient walk for me. With changes to downtown (regarding a homeless shelter) there is less activity in the area that might have prevented some from visiting.

This was my first time here, and I really liked it and will return again. I was not expecting the cuisine to be Mexican, but they had great execution on the food. We came on a Sunday and had their Sunday special plus Mexi-mosas (spin of a mimosa). The carnitas was very juicy, and the carne asada super tender. Our appetizers were guacamole and salsa with chips. They make it in house, and it was very tasty. We also had the mini desserts of key lime pie, and flan. Both desserts were impressive. I recommend this location. Ashley is by far the best sever EVER! She is she kind and accommodating if you get the chance you have her s as your sever, count your self as LUCKY 🍀 or just ask for her. 😃
We had grilled chicken enchiladas with the Colorado sauce is my favorite, But the nachos hold a special place in my heart ❤

2022 update: still excellent. You definitely get what you pay for here. Great flavors and plenty on your plate.

I liked it! Not the gourmet americanized stuff you'd find at other places but also not the low quality fast food Mexican either. The help was really good and on top of things and it was a nice place. They do not have complimentary chips and salsa so be aware you'll be charged for them.
