Staggs Grocery

This little hole in the wall restaurant is located in the Sweetwater district of East Florence. Despite it's humble appearance, they're serving up a grand delicious homemade breakfast and some of the best burgers around on the inside.
Staggs is open early for breakfast and serves lunch until 2 pm.
It's iconic and has been a staple in Florence for as long as I can remember.
The chocolate gravy served on Fridays brings me back to my childhood. It's just as my great-grandmother made it.
Stop by Monday through Friday. You won't be disappointed.

There are very few places that have a local importance with regard to a multi-generational connection to the area. Staggs is one of them. Absolutely the best burgers I have ever had and ever will have. My memories of this place go back to childhood, teenage years, and of course the here and now where I am getting a few more grey hairs than I would like, lol. I would go here when "adventuring" away from high school to grab lunch when I thought I'd get away with sneaking off campus. Of course, only to find every football/basketball/baseball coach at my school was also eating lunch there that day. "Busted" lol . Anyway, it is a special place for a lot of locals and as such it is a must stop at place for anyone visiting the area. The hours of operation have always been open early and close early...and that's just the way it is. Lunch can get busy as can what I call the "biscuit hour" when folks are up early on their way to work ( or if they are lucky, going fishing on their day off). Not fancy but always friendly. One of those places where they make do and keep the prices as low as they can. Can't say that for a lot of places that have opened up in the area these days. One word comes to mind when local folks mention Staggs, "Tradition."

Saw it on the internet. Going there for breakfast but saw them cooking burgers. Mine was so good my wife ordered one after she finished her breakfast and she didn't share.

I take my 2 y,are old grandson to eat there, often. Best hamburger steak you can put in your mouth. Kingston loves the fries and bacon. We love the atmosphere, it's always friendly, clean and if you're in a hurry, no problems or you can grab a table inside or outside and just enjoy your meal. I hope we never lose this part of what makes Florence a nice, friendly part of home

this place is *bussin* 😂 my friends and i absolutely LOVED the chocolate gravy and biscuits. it was so filling but so satisfying. also the staff was really nice and the food came out quickly

It has been sad that, "You can't hold a public office in Florence if you don't eat at Staggs" which is to say you'll find everything at this tiny diner AND you will find the BEST classic flat top burgers or home made biscuits ANYWHERE! Staggs is a local legend and if you can only eat at one place in the Shoals, make it STAGGS!

Yes, this is a real burger joint. They do accept cards, it's a bit confusing. You must order at the counter next to grill. Then you pay at the front, just like a store. But, nothing too complicated. I'm a big eater and the double was almost too much for me. Real nice and friendly staff, downtown parking so it may be limited with a big vehicle. I definitely think this is the best burger in northern Alabama. Don't be in a rush, it's a slow paced environment.

Great burgers! I have eaten burgers here for over 25 years and they never disappoint. There is a limited menu here, but if you want a great breakfast or burger this is your spot. This is a community establishment and you may find yourself seated with strangers at large tables while enjoying your meal. The owners and employees are great and the service is always fast and friendly.

Outstanding local land-mark eatery! I went for lunch and enjoyed the best, freshest, burger and fries I've had in the area. I also hear they're famous for their breakfast, so I'll definitely be putting that to the test soon. Not overpriced and the staff is very welcoming and hospitable. Seating is very limited, so either come early or order it to go, because it takes a while to get through this delicious monster.
