Angelika Film Center & Cafe - New York

This was my first ever independent film theater when I was in my 20s. It has been a few years since I've visited, but they still have friendly staff & it's always clean. The popcorn is good, too! 😊

Saw the boy and the heron here. Great theatre overall, seat layout is very different from AMC/other bigger chains, but it’s much better in my opinion. Also has great food options

One can count on the Angelika to deliver the independent films that are thought provoking. This place is an institution and should be patronized every time you have the opportunity to do so.
This time I saw “Perfect Days” - theatre was organized and the audience members were also given a special shout out in the introduction by the Director and protagonist.

beautiful theater. the food at the upstairs cafe is great and well-priced. watched “all of us strangers.” it was fun hearing the nearby subway during the movie haha

Interesting selection of movies old and new, foreign and domestic. Cafe is overpriced. We enjoyed Amelie, a French film from 2011. Nothing was playing in traditional theaters that appealed to us, so it was nice to be able to come here for something different. Bathrooms were on the lower level.

Classic cinema experience with an audience that respects the silver screen. Buy tickets well in advance unless you’re a singleton. Nice cafe and seating area so get there early and chill out.

Excellence when it comes to program curation, movie selection, very grass roots feeling, great vibes. Great venue/chill energy, they play a lot of movies and early and late. Wonderful low key cafe walking in, simple, has champagne 🥂and coffee ☕:)

Big mistake if you live in New York city and don't go to Angelika as a cinephile. What a cool selection of movies! There are cherry picked foreign language movies you'd not get to see at Film Forum or IFC (FF or IFC is quite good by the way in their own ways). And a great movie watching experience with big leather reclining chairs at Angelika123!

Where else do you get realistic subway noise through the walls that make you question “was that in the film?” Great theater

Great movie theater that always has a couple more interesting movies to see. Bathrooms can be a wait and concession is a bit pricy, but the theaters themselves are good.

I was puzzled at the beginning of this film and wasn’t sure if l even wanted to stay. But I did stay and I haven’t stopped thinking about it.Slow but beautiful and progressively revealing. I have called so many people to recommend it.

I really liked the place. You can get discounts on certain days and with free membership. I would definitely go more often, but I live six hours away.

Angelika Film Center is a hidden gem. I watched Free Solo here way before most people have even heard of the movie.

If you enjoy independent films, you should definitely check out the Angelika Film Center. The theatre showcases some of the best indie movies and provides a unique and intimate movie experience.

The staff is friendly, and the venue has a classic, old-school theater feel. The employees are always welcoming and helpful, making you feel at home. Additionally, the bathroom facilities are clean and hygienic.

The only drawback is that the seats could be more comfortable. However, this is a minor issue that is more than compensated for by the overall experience.

The Angelika Film Center offers an excellent movie experience for those who appreciate independent films. The theatre is definitely worth a visit, from its friendly staff to its cleanliness.

It was very good, small theaters but with a good sound system, I went there for a free movie, but I will definitely go there again, but unfortunately the food costs in the cinema are very high and it's sad.

Great programming. Nice lounge. Wish senior discount was better. Rumbling of subway sometimes an issue.

My favorite movie theater to visit over that last 15 years (BAM is a close second). I come here to view independent films by myself or to watch movies with my family and friends.

It's a great place for independent films, and some of the best indie movies. Highly recommended!

When all of the big chain movie theaters have let you down, look no further than Angelica Film. Easy to get to and their popcorn is incredible. The lineup process is a bit obnoxious but it’s kind of a relic of the past which everyone tolerates.
