IMHO one of the most beautiful bridges in the world, connecting Brooklyn with Staten Island. It is the swan song of famous Swiss-American engineer Othmar Hermann Ammann (1879-1965). The upper level was opened in 1964, one year before his death, while the lower level was opened in 1969. My only regret is that the bridge does not include a bike path, unlike most other bridges in the New York metro area.

The bridge is named after 16th-century explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano—the first European to sail into New York Harbor. Its official name was spelled with just one “z” until 2018, when it was corrected.

I've been crossing this bridge for years. Since it was $7. Sunrises and sunsets never get old here. When it's windy, you feel your vehicle move and realize how powerful wind can be. Truck and motorcycle bans due to high winds is common. I would recommend finding out if those bans are in place when weather is bad. The traffic usually comes to halt about a mile or so out from bridge when that happens. Nonetheless, it's the fastest and most convenient way to i95 for many people in NYC area. And its a bridge that's a final destination for many. Lots of great parks, restaurants and golf courses.

Verrazano-narrows bridge is beautiful in the evening when all lights are on. Amazing view while driving on the upper level of the bridge. It has lover and upper levels, which in total have 13 lanes.
A little bit about the story of the bridge.
Until the 1960s, the only way from Brooklyn to Staten Island by water first was by Indian canoes, then boats and ferries.
A railroad tunnel was started from Brooklyn in 1923 but never completed. Plans for the vehicular tunnel were studied in 1929 and 1942 but dropped. Finally, in 1946, the state of New York authorized a bridge to he built across this narrows.
Thankfully, now we have this bridge 😀

Love to drive on the Verrazano bridge, is a suspension bridge connecting the New York City boroughs of Staten Island and Brooklyn. It spans the Narrows, a body of water linking the relatively enclosed New York Harbor with Lower New York Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. It is the only fixed crossing of the Narrows. The double-deck bridge carries 13 lanes of Interstate 278: seven on the upper level and six on the lower level. The span is named for Giovanni da Verrazzano, who in 1524 was the first European explorer to enter New York Harbor and the Hudson River.

Been using this bridge quite a lot this past month as we explore Staten Island. On Sunday we went on a lighthouse tour by boat and we got a nice look at the underside 😝

One of the most beautiful bridges I've ever seen. Golden Gate in the West and Verrezzano-Narrows in the East !

Exploring one of the finest bridges in the Northeastern United States was an absolute delight! Driving over it, particularly during the evening, provided a fantastic experience, whether cruising on the upper or lower level. The bridge's charm remains, regardless of traffic conditions. The only hiccup is the interchange with the Belt Parkway Eastbound, especially during peak hours. Merging there can be a bit challenging due to heavy traffic, and the design could use some improvement. Nevertheless, overall, it's a wonderful bridge worth checking out!

I'm giving 5 stars for the beauty of the bridge, not the toll price. It's way too expensive. $17.
When you are on the bridge stay always alert, don't be distracted, because cars make sudden stops especially the lane going to Belt Parkway toward JFK. There is a sign on the bridge saying the sudden stops too.
I've been hit twice from the back.
You can enjoy the Verrazano Bridge view from Staten Island Beach or Forts such like Fort Tompkins or Fort Wadsworth or from Brooklyn side Shore Road Park and Parkway

I've paddled under the Verrazzano several times and always it feels a little bit intimidating because of its size---and then I think about the many times I've paddled under the GW. It is also awe-inspiring when you are down there to consider that it was once plugged and then scoured out by glaciers. Then one can consider how deep below the channel continues south several more miles offshore and into the Hudson Canyon and off the continental shelf. All of it starting hundreds of miles to the north in the Adirondacks, high up at Lake Tear of the Clouds.

Ok this beast is huge. I was just passing by and I was like man that thing is huge, it actually made me a bit dizzy, so don't stare at it. Plus there's a good chance someone's about to cut you off. I did take it to leave NY it was fast though it was about 1030pm. I have not received the toll charge as of yet. So my feelings about this bridge might change once I get the bill.

NYC Marathon athletes village and start line. Ft. Wadsworth was well organized and made the morning so memorable. Running over the bridge and seeing the city before me is something I will never forget.

Bring a waterbottle, preferably 2 litres, sunscreen, umbrella and hat as well as sunglasses, of course. In the loverly month of June, one can get sun poisoning and since this isn't Manhattan, there are no taps or parasols to hide under, just the bare pavement, a few dried up twigs all emblazoned in the scorching Summer Sun's solar flares ready to burn through anyone who isn't using SPF 50 and has a skin pigmentation that is vulnerable to UV rays, I spent 5 hours walking back and forth to Coney Island from 92nd Street so that was rather extreme, searching for some seashells. Beautiful scenery but mark my words sun poisoning is painful and rather tedious a process so do take all precautions necessary to prevent any damage or unnecessary pain. Cheers!

Beautiful view when your going under it on a cruise ship. An NYPD helicopter escorted us out to sea.

It's a bridge, it's tall and it's suspended, white and pretty with good views. They move the middle divider back and forth between oncoming traffic creating more or less travel lanes depending on traffic flow. It's a toll bridge, you will be paying $15 getting on to the island.
