Awesome park! We were able to rent a bike and check out the whole island. It was a great time. I recommend visiting the island. I would advise you to bring food and your own bikes to save money. Or pick up a city bike and bring it over on the ferry. I'd say have a picnic in the field in the middle of the island.

Wow this place is a hidden jem. A 5 minute ferry ride from Manhattan. $4 for the ride. Island is kid friendly. Glamping looked amazing. The Spa is incredible. And the view from the spa is surreal.

The most amazing place. A must to visit a completely tranquil environment just a short ferry ride from Manhattan. Just a shame that they don't have more historic value...in my opinion some of the buildings should be open and set up to recreate what life would have been like to live on the island. The grounds, views and picnic areas are stunning

Just a short ferry ride and you're away from the hustle of NYC. The view are amazing. Great for picnics and other recreational activities. Bikes are available for rent of all designs. 2 person and 4 person bikes as well. It is easily walkable and has an amazing view of new York city's lower Manhattan skyline. The statue of liberty is also within a close viewing proximity.

If you want a quiet place for brunch-ing and picnics, somewhere with a bit of history, a place to detach from the city but not too far.

Enjoy the day and bike along the island, or seat and enjoy margarittas as the sunsets or just a peaceful neighborhood to hang out in....this is your spot.

Bike rental can be pricey...so if you have your own bike, you can take it along the ferry going to the island.

If you haven't been I highly recommend you visit at least once. There are fantastic views of NYC, the Statue of liberty and it's right next to the Staten island ferry. There are many places to explore and you can't rent bikes. It's only a 5 min. ferry ride from the city and very inexpensive!

Cool little island to visit if you want to visit for outdoor activities. It is like a very big park. The food trucks stationed are nothing amazing but not ridiculously overpriced either. Personally I would prefer bringing food for a picnic or barbeque setting. You can also bring your bikes and scooters which is pretty cool. Bring water and drinks as it is easy to get dehydrated. The weather was sunny and around 80F degrees but it was still very hot after walking around.

The ferry that leaves in the morning is free otherwise it's a small fee of 3$ for a roundtrip (the ferry back to Manhattan is free).

The place is very clean with interesting historic buildings and plenty of space for outdoor activities with your friends and family.

A $3. Dollar ferry ride affords some spectacular views of lower Manhattan and Lady Liberty. Safest place in the city for a bike ride rentals available or bring your own bike on the ferry. Excellent picnic spot or there are dining options on the island.

Excellent place to release the stress of NYC life. They have food vendors, bikes, hammocks, slides, zip lining, wall climbing, 2 Historical Forts, many activities for children. There is the hill with an amazing view of Liberty island, New Jersey and New York skylines. They have free bikes Monday to Friday for all the people that get there before noon. They have books exposition every weekend and free kayaking every saturday.

This is a beautiful, eclectic (if somewhat busy) park that's a weird mix of old and new. Ive lived in NYfor over 15 years and this was my first visit, deciding to go on a whim There's a fort originally built in the late 1700s, but when you look in the windows of the barracks, the rooms look updated as recently as the 1990's, which is strange since no one lives there. The hammock Grove is absolutely lovely and the flora are beautifully kept. Food and drinks are ridiculously expensive though Will definitely make my way back.

Such a lovely place to visit especially in the morning where bikes are available for free for up to one hour between 10am and 12pm. Ferry only costs $2 return, crazy golf is pay by donation and there are great places to eat. That's not to mention all the great views.

Really close to the hustle and bustle of the city but yet felt more like a national park it was so tranquil. Great for walks, jogging, cycling, kids, adults, groups.. this place has it all! The cost of the ferry was $2 return exceptionally good value. There were quite a few food stalls and stands with a deasant enough selection to satisfy most palettes, and also very reasonably priced. Great views of Brooklyn, Staten and New Jersey boroughs and also photo opportunities with the Statue of Liberty as the backdrop. Great day out. Highly revommended😊😊

The ferry ride from Manhattan took 15 minutes and a roundtrip ticket costs $2. Weekend ferries are available from Brooklyn. There are no admission fees in the island.

The entire island is car-free and walkable (expect at least 20,000 steps). Being mostly flat, it is also wheelchair accessible in most places. If you want a faster way to get around, bring your own bike or rent one for a fee at four different bike stations, three of them operated by Citi Bike. However, the bikes are not cheap and expect to pay upwards of $12 for an all-day use.

The island has plenty to offer. For scenic views and outdoor photography, head to Outlook Hill. For history and architecture, check out Fort Jay, Castle Williams, and Liggett Hall. For green spaces, there's Nolan Park, Parade Grounds, and Play Lawn. There is a restroom near Soissons Landing, where the ferry from Manhattan docks, and portable toilets around the island.

Governors Island is beautiful and very clean. I attended the #PINKNIC event there and although I was a but disappointed with the organization of the event I was very pleased with the venue. I plan to go back just to have a picnic, but when it is a little cooler. 100° F is not exactly the best time to go since there is not a lot of tree coverage (at least in the area the event was thrown).

Governor’s island is an awesome location to relax with family and friends. The ferry costs $3 for a round trip. It’s a great space to also chill and spend some alone time with yourself if you need to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
I was there to conduct some research during FIGMENT NYC (2018) hence the large crowds, tents and art displays on the field. Though there were so many events on the island while I was there, I know that the island is big enough to always find somewhere quiet at all times during the open hours. The food trucks that are occasionally on the island can be pricey. So if you can, buy some food or put together a picnic basket before getting on the ferry.

Perfect place for a day trip. Taking a ferry to the island watching the NY skyline and WTC just makes your day. Dont forget to try the free Kayaking(20mins) and the bicycle rentals. Would recommend to plan based on the event calendar. Fun activites for kids like golf, maze, slides. Nice food on the island.
