This trail was a little confusing to find but was worth the effort. It has the canal lock, towpath, the train tunnel and trails that take you to some interesting rock formations with views of the Licking River and the Black Hand Gorge trail on the other side of the river.

Take this trail straight down to find the trolley tunnel. It's pretty flat and makes a nice stroll. It was fun to see the old canal stones and the tunnel was much longer and darker than I expected! Worth it to stop for a short trek!

I have always loved this area . I used to live close enough to walk or ride a bike. History, scenery and exploring all 40 miles east of Columbus

This is a very short trail, but also very pretty, and peaceful. Good for a short walk to see the canal lock, the tunnel, and some nice rock outcroppings just beyond... and enjoy the quiet as it is less popular than the paved trail on the other side of the river. (This is a no dog, no bikes trail --as are the dirt trails off of the paved one). A short distance past the tunnel there are signs posted identifying nature preserve areas that you should stay out of, so be on the lookout for those because they can be hidden in the brush.

My favorite trail at blackhand gorge. Take the path on the right after blackhand rock to see the waterfall.

Took a minute to find the trail. Quick, short hike. Took a few side trips to the river and canal bottom. The tunnel was awesome and nice and cool on a hot day. Way bigger than we expected.

Blackhand gorge is a hidden gem in southeastern Ohio. I highly recommend coming to enjoy this preserve.

Due to rain I was only able to hike to the tunnel and back but it appears to be very lightly traveled. Enjoyed that short portion and hope to hike the rest

It's awesome to explore the ruins of the Erie canal. It's a great place for pictures, and the surrounding forest is beautiful
