Beautiful little trails by the river. Went during a spring afternoon and the bluebells were in full bloom. Would definitely recommend and go back.

Trails were wonderful. We got there in time for a guided tour by Patrick. He was very knowledgeable. His way of telling a story was very insightful and you could really picture the scenarios. Made our Day thanks Patrick!

I went to the battlefield for the 162nd Anniversary. It's a pretty well preserved battlefield near Leesburg with lots of hiking trails. There's enough signage to understand the battle and the aftermath. The cemetery is tiny (being third smallest) but there's proper signage that talks about.
Highly recommend checking out this battlefield.

We went to Ball's Bluff Battlefield Regional Park for some hiking and to search for wildflowers, in particular bluebells. Mid-April is a good time for bluebells. We were not disappointed!

The park is a modest sized park with gentle elevation changes, criss-crossing hiking trails, a historical trail with informational markers and a small national cemetery. There is a Potomac River overlook and some picnic areas.

The park has a parking area and the hiking trails are mostly easy with the maximum elevation change of around 120 feet. The park is an inviting park and the historical element is well laid out and informative, but the highlight of our stay was the discovery of large areas of wonderful bluebells down along the river trail. We also found several other interesting types of wildflowers.

Expect to spend a couple hours or even a full day here. It is worth it.

20220605 hiked here this afternoon and noticed a lot of debris, fallen trees, etc... on the orange trail, Jenifer trail, etc.

20220404 I love hiking at this park. Not only it has so much history, there are also many trails throughout this park. The historic part of the park is not that big, but the trail network is big. There are trails near the parking lot, and to the right, left and back of the park. Everytime I come, this is my 3rd or 4th visit, I always discover more if the park. Today, I discovered the river trail when i hiked along the river, and at the end of the trail, the trail turns left, goes up hill and curves to the left. The trail runs along the river again except I was up on the mountain with a slight different view of the river... much higher up and through trees. It's my favorite trail because I love being near water. It's so therapeutic for me. We hiked 1.5 miles today. The flowers are blooming and I saw a lot of blue bells. So pretty. There are a lot of dogs today. I love to see people taking their dogs with them and go for a nice walk or hike. I plan in coming back, probably in the Fall.

2021 I returned to this park today, and explored the trails in addition to the main part of this park. I really enjoyed the trails and it seems like it is difficult to get lost on the trail... As long as you know the general direction of the parking lot or the main part of the park. Try to hike one of the trails along the river. The view is pretty. Do wear hiking shoes because some part of the trails can by steep and rocky.

This park has a lot of history and trails. I hiked the Interpretative Trail what was somewhat well marked. It took me through the main section of the park, and it has a lot of sign telling the history of the battlefield. I walked passed 3 cannons and the cemetery. There are a lot of trails, all named, but the trail map only captures the color of the trails. Wish there was a more detailed hiking map. Some trails appeared to be very well kept, probably because they have more hikers. There was a gentleman at the entrance in the parking area sharing stories of the battlefield and he is the person to take to if you have questions or want to know about future events. There is a portable potty in the parking lot. I would come back again. The park is very clean but be sure to spray yourself with bug spray. I had some organic bug spray with no deet and I still got bitten twice.

This park has some pretty rugged trails, my watch had us measured at an elevation of 407 feet when we were done going up and down the bluff. Once you park there's the great field and historic plaques all around, but once you hit the tree line, serious treking going on. Oh and the little landing of earth on the Potomac's edge is. quiet and seriene.
I definitely would take some water if you plan on hiking the whole park.

Civil War battlefield. Beautiful and serene. Easy access to the trail that leads to Balls Bluff National Cemetery and an amazing view of the Potomac River from the Bluff Overlook. We walked along the river and the towering bluff. In the spring, the ground is covered with spring flowers. I enjoyed seeing a carpet of Virginia Bluebells.

Lovely place to stretch your legs and get some history while social distancing! We went on a Sunday and brought our dog. It wasn't too busy so it was easy to keep away from others. We brought a lunch and hung out on one of the benches to enjoy the cool day. We even saw a few deer!

We couldn't initially figure out whether we could drive in past the entry sign since it was so narrow. We only saw cars coming out and thought it might be a one-way. We parked on the side of the road just outside. Turns out you could drive further in, but we didn't mind getting a bit more walking in.

It was a little cold but that made it more enjoyable. Beautiful views by the river and up on the bluffs. There are definitely some steep hills to get up, but there are not that long thankfully. The dogs loved it!

What a gem in the middle of Leesburg! I was visiting during the government shutdown so most of the touristy things I wanted to do were closed. This is a state park though. My dogs and I needed some exercise and this battlefield with historical signs along the trails was right up our alley! There was snow on the ground but most of the trails were doable. (I decided against going down the river trail it was a bit sketchy with all the snow) Also there was only one other person there which made it even better.

Really enjoyed the historic guided walk. It was a long 2 hours so make sure enough to have the time and patience to listen for that long. The guide was really knowledgeable and it was fine we’ll spent for history buffs

Great hiking area. In certain stretches you can walk along the Potomac which is really nice. This is a pack in pack out park, so there are no garbages, toilets, or water fountains. Just nature.

So much history. Trails were easily found and walked. Informational signs were well maintained. We were there for a wreath laying ceremony and I was impressed with the look of the park and how nice it looked

It was our first time here and we had the place to ourselves. Made our way to the river and couldn’t believe our luck. The blue bells were in full bloom!

One of our favorite places to be in Loudoun County! Hiking is wonderful- short loops that will still provide a workout. Great place for kids to hike as well. And cicadas!

A great hiking spot with plenty of trails to choose from, many of which connect to neighboring parks or run alongside the Potomac River. Historical artifacts and interpretive trail worth a visit.

A nice park with some historical sites and signs to tell Scott the history. Good hiking trails as well. This is a good place to bring kids because most of the trails pass over some water at some point and there are big cannons and a graveyard, plenty of things to see.
There is a nice field on the way to the cemetery (<5 minute walk from parking lot) that is a great area for a picnic).
