The Hawthorne Inn & Conference Center

Highly recommend. Not luxury but Safe, clean , quiet and comfortable stay in downtown Winston, walking distance to the fun areas. For about 25% less than similar corporate chain hotels in the same area. All I could ever ask for and maybe better.

Free parking, free continental breakfast til 930 am (I think), hotel also has a good selection of simple snacks and drinks (incl wine/beer) available for purchase in lobby. There is an outdoor pool available in summer.

Only negative was that, despite having a balcony, there was no openable window in my room. My room was a bit warm, even thought it was cool outside. Would have preferred to be able to open the window and enjoy fresh air instead of running the AC. And the AC was very loud, would not have been possible to sleep with it on.

Great place to stay at a great value. Our room was just right and we enjoyed how comfortable the bed was. The staff was very courteous and the check-in and check-out process was super smooth. The elevators are a little smaller, but given the age of the building it is what it is. Will definitely stay here again in the future.

Mike helped us check in and was awesome. He also had a prepared list of local restaurants that would deliver to the rooms: a godsend for a hungry family. Our room was very clean and nice overall. The pool was perfect for the kids after 12 hours on the road and we took full advantage of it.

5 stars for the price ($71 USD / $95 CAD).

Curious to see how good the $10.95 breakfast buffet is tomorrow. Love that it opens at 6.

Edit: 10.95 even for 50lb 8 year olds lol. Hard pass.

Very nice hotel.. comfy beds and cozy, clean rooms. Very nice lobby area as well but honestly my favorite thing about this hotel is the pool!! Located in what some would call a courtyard like space it's just perfect!! Very quiet and laid out just right! The location is absolutely perfect and every staff member I encountered during my stay was courteous and helpful.

An excellent downtown location with free parking if you are staying in Winston. All staff were extremely courteous and conscientious in whatever role they had. This is a unique hotel that is not a chain. They had interesting decor albeit dated The event I attended had adequate facilities and catering. The free breakfast is only coffee, juice, breads and pastries I paid $10 to room charge for hot breakfast for two and it was decent with protein options similar to other free hot breakfast offerings so worth $5 per person.

Outdated hotel but the room was clean and front desk was friendly. Pool is closed until next year so that was a bummer for the kids but other than that we had a great stay.

Great location, close to everything downtown. Hotel always clean and well kept. Rooms always very clean with pretty comfortable beds. We have stayed here before but this time the a/c went out in our room the 2nd night we were there and we had to be moved to another room. It was inconvenient to have to move, but the hotel staff was very helpful and even upgraded our room. The a/c in the next room was not on and took a long time to cool the room since the room was more like a small studio apartment. We still enjoyed our night and our stay overall. The pool is wonderful, nice size with a very nice pool deck with tables. We love this hotel and the area and will return again!

I’m 4 months into a 6 month stay and I must say the customer service is outstanding. Kudos to the hotel manager, Aaron, for all that you’ve done to make my stay feel more at home.

Very comfortable, clean, organized rooms. First class service. The staff is very friendly, they are always willing to help. Very affordable prices.

My boyfriend & I really love this hotel whenever we visit WS. The service is getting 3 stars because when I checked in, I watched the female with the tats and the guy handing the guest their things in their hands however when it was my turn, she kept putting my id and card key on the counter verses my hand, that's always been a petpeeve of mine!! If I'm giving you what you need in your hand, give me the courtesy of returning it back to me! I'm not playing the race card I'm just saying, that's the professional way! Next time I'll wait on the other guy who from what I've observed, treats everyone equally! Outside of that, we love the hotel.

Nice, clean suites. Very simple but perfect for a night or a few. The pool is great! 9 feet and they maintain it. Great views of the city if you're up high and facing that direction. Close to WFBH. Great for out-of-towners having to go to that hospital. Walking distance to downtown and great restaurants. Staff friendly and accommodating.

The only complaint we would have made was the "breakfast.". Plan to grab food somewhere else. Bagels and muffins seemed so stale they wouldn't even toast in the toaster. No cereal for something quick before hitting the road.

I stayed in the non-smoking area and it was good. Everything very clean. The receptionist who attended us that night,Very very friendly,The only uncomfortable thing was that the guest in the other room at midnight had a very loud radio.

A reasonable price and great people. The location is a short walk from downtown and an easy drive to great shopping and entertainment. The rooms are clean and good sized.

Our power and Internet went out, due to strong weather storm. So we we to The Hawthorne Inn. This place has great accommodations along with continental breakfast. You can also request a breakfast to have a hot meal for $10.00. Nice place to stay in Winston Salem NC.

I really don't know about the rooms. I wasn't there to stay the night. I was a vendor for an event that was hosted there. Things we needed, like a chair or table was available to us as requested with no issue. Staff we were around was very professional and pleasant. Bathrooms were very clean.

Everything inside of the hotel was very nice and everything went smoothly, but the location is a little annoying to me, because it looked like that there was no time to get out.

Overall very satisfied with my stay and I will be returning when I'm in the area. These people at the Hawthorne are outstanding! Thank you Fred for helping me today. I had a bad experience booking through Agoda. They cancelled my reservations because I complained of a price hike when I added a day. Fred was quick to rebook my room in 5 minutes. I was on the phone with the AGOTA for over an hour. Not only did they not credit me the overcharge but they canceled my reservation! Fred quickly-fix my problem in rebooked my room thank you Fred management should be happy to have you! I will see you soon..

What a POOL and overall great find for comfortable lodging in Winston-Salem! It’s right off 421 and has great dining steps off the property.

I saw the pool pics before I made our reservation. I was not prepared!! It’s an old school, huge pool with a 9 foot deep end. We were in heaven!! I do wish they’d let you swim until midnight though…

Our room had a jacuzzi tub and sitting area. The bed was very comfy and the pillows were awesome. We usually travel with our pillows because we’re so picky, so this was a surprise and relief! Nice touch in so many areas!!

The whole place is decorated and adorned but keeping it vintage all around. We really loved this spot. Came to town for a funeral…thinking we’ll come back just to enjoy THIS hotel and the area!

The included breakfast is very poor. But for 10 Bugs additional you get a continental breakfast. Very good restaurants in walking distance. Specifically the Italien one around the corner.
