This is the hidden gem, off the beaten path, restaurant that you are looking for. My wife and I were doing tours of the plantation houses and stopped here for lunch. She ordered the fried oyster plate and I got the shrimp poboy. While waiting for our meals, one of the staff showed my wife how to eat crawfish. We also saw a large number of people pick up meals and addressed by name. After trying the crawfish we ate our meal and were thoroughly impressed. I know we will be back on our next trip through in a couple of months.

This is truly one of the best restaurants in Louisiana. The food is fantastic, the servers are some of the nicest people on earth, and the owner is an attentive sweetheart who wants to make sure everyone is happy and fed. I live in New Orleans and regularly visit this place to have the best gumbo in the state. If you haven't been there yet, go!!

Love how accommodating they were to me. The lady named Dottie took my order and instead of me having to get out of my car and go inside she brought me the food and rang up my order and came get the money from me at my car. It's too hard for me to walk from the parking lot to the register in the restaurant. And the food was delicious. Especially if you get a soft shell crab poboy sandwich fully dressed. Best poboys to eat. Will continue to frequent this establishment.

Quaint little shack with excellent food and service. Pat was our server and we couldn't haven enjoyed our time here more. The chicken and sausage gumbo was fantastic and the shrimp po boy was very much enjoyed. They do fried options well here. Prices were agreeable.

We just ate here yesterday with some friends that are locals. It is definitely a whole in the wall, which we prefer, but oh so good. We are so glad they recommended this restaurant. Our friends both had roast beef poboys that they swear by. My husband and I shared a half of a Muffuletta and a small onion rings. I'm originally from New Orleans and have had many a good Muffuletta. This Muffuletta was excellent and as good as I've had. The onion rings were homemade and delicious. Our friend ordered a brownie that was freshly baked and huge. We tasted it and loved it. The service was friendly, attentive, and fast. We will definitely return when we are in the area.

Fantastic local Seafood restaurant for St. Charles Parish! The crawfish here are exceptional, but get them before 4-5 PM because they always run out. The fried catfish is also great!

We love this restaurant! Great service, fantastic quality food, plus low prices. The best fried chicken, muffalettas and boiled seafood. Doesn't look like much on the outside, but it you want authentic LA food check this place out...tell David the owner that John referred you and say hi for me...he is great guy!

Hungry for local food after landing at New Orleans airport, we followed a Google "nearby" recommendation to this quaint cafe nestled behind a Mississippi River levee. Warmly welcomed by a soft-spoken fellow whose eyes lit up when he named the chicken and sausage gumbo as a must-have, we inquired about speed of service. "7 minutes" was the answer. Sure enough, minutes later we tucked in to generous steaming portions of divine gumbo (3.99 for a huge mug) and a large scoop of traditional potato salad. Yum! Brownies to go and we were out the door and back on the road happy and looking forward to making this stop a regular feature of our New Orleans airport (MSY) run. Cozy bar and friendly employees make this a promising prospect for a relaxed beer while waiting for friends as well.

On the shore of the Mississippi I stopped for dinner. "Welcome, my darling," said the waitress named Pat. Immediately I felt at home and ordered the oyster plate. If I have a favorite food it's oysters, soft and tender with a crispy crust. NOBODY in New Orleans does them better. This has become my favorite go to place for oysters.

After a super interesting guided tour of the Destrehan Plantation plantation, we had a very typical Cajun lunch at the Port Side. Our Destrehan Plantation Guide Beverly recommended it to us and said, that if no one sent you to it, you could confuse it with a shack. Which is right - we neatrly missed it on our way along the Ol' Miss.
Pat, who refers to herself as the grandma to everyone here greeted us warmly. She introduces herself politely and told us, that she will take care of us. And so she did!!!
The house itself is 72 years old. The local owner holds it for 11 years and she herself works in the Port Side for 8 years. She gave all sorts of names: my babies, darlings and the like and we feel as if we're family.
Menu of the day was Spaghetti with meatballs, but we preferred something local. So seafood it was!!
Pat helped us decide on a plate of oyster, catfish, and shrimp and an extra fried sot shell crab. + fries + coleslaw
While we waited for our food she brought us a cup of chicken + sausage gumbo so we get to try all the local goodies. Later on she even brought some boiled crawfish, squeezed pulled and twisted off the tails for us to sample yet another local delicacy.

Three refills of sweet tea and coke later, we simply couldn't eat or drink anymore and paird our check at the front desk.

Thank you for this insight of Cajun kitchen!!
