We have came here multiple times and had breakfast when it was still served and loved it then. We came in for lunch today & left very satisfied! Chicken had so much flavor and cooked perfectly.
Our daughter also made a mess in the dining area. The owner was very friendly, cleaned up the mess and also gave us new drinks. He truly does care about his customer satisfaction. We will definitely be back for lunch soon!

First time eating here, it was a little mom and pop-like diner. We decided to go since it was across the street from the new Kaledium. Food was reasonably priced, tasted great, and service was great. I think it was the owner that served us and made our food. He was very nice and polite and even gave our kids free ice cream when my two year old was having a tantrum. Definitely will go back!

A hidden gem on 3rd across from Kaleideum. Homemade comfort food, 100% Angus hot dog anyway you like, my favorite the 1/2 lb Philly made from whole sirloin, seasoned and chopped on the grill, handheld sandwiches, fried chicken, pork chop sammich, old school hand scooped ice cream and shakes. The prices will take you back to the 90's. The owner John is incredible. He certainly puts his heart into his work. Extremely kind and this man can COOK!! Come see him. I took my 2 young children here yesterday for lunch. The food was homemade and delicious! The gentleman working was so kind and patient, even when my 2 year old wouldn’t stay in her seat (she was standing next to our table, not running around).

We don’t visit Winston often, but we will definitely return the next time we’re in town!

I went here with my daughter after checking out the new Kaleideum downtown location. I would definitely recommend this place for kids - they have a good children's menu that is well-priced (I think it was about $7 for a combo). I had the fried chicken sandwich and it was excellent.

Definitely looks like a dive so will give atmosphere 4 stars (it personally doesn't bother me but others might find it grungy).

I def give this place 5 stars! I found them online while I was in Winston for a conference. The breakfast at the hotel was $15 and I could not afford to do that for 3 mornings. The service at Murphy’s was quick and the food was great!
Each morning I ordered 2 pancakes with bacon and scrambled eggs. It’s was just over $5.
I stayed at the Marriott downtown and it was right around the corner which was great so I didn’t have to drive or catch an Uber or Lyft.

I just stumbled upon this little hole in the wall joint today and to my surprise was very delighted!! speciality burgers/hot dogs, and a different hot plate special everyday, i had the flounder mac and cheese and greens today and it was light, flakey, and awessommmeee. My partner got a Sea Turtle Milkshake. Fair price. just one man doing it too... amazing.

What a nice surprise! I’m from Winston and have passed by this place for years. Today, I gave it a try. The rosemary chicken (Friday special) was outstanding! Two to three specials can be ordered cafeteria style, or you can order from the grill. The chicken I got was from the line. High sanitation grade too. Give this place a try. I’ll definitely be back.

I was staying at the Marriott Winston-Salem and was looking for a place to get breakfast outside the hotel. I found this place and to my surprise it was only a 2 minute walk from the hotel. I tried it and was very pleasantly surprised. The breakfast was phenomenal and the prices are very reasonable. If you are in Winston-salem and looking for a good place to get breakfast, come here. You can't go wrong.

This place is a throwback to years gone by... A cafeteria style lunch counter serving a meat and two from hot trays behind glass and various sandwiches made to order. The owner/ chef / line cook / waiter/ cashier / buser / dishwasher has been running this place for the last two years by himself and is doing an incredible job. My parents brought me here when I was a child back in the the 80's and it warmed my heart to find out it was still here and going strong. I had my go-to from yesteryear, the country style steak and I ended up having three sides (mac and cheese, black eyed peas, and baby limas) since I couldn't decide on two. It was as good as I remembered. I watched a couple of cheeseburgers be prepared and I almost got that they looked so good. My wife had a BLT and she was very pleased with her sandwich. I think they're open Monday through Friday lunch only...... If you find yourself in downtown Winston-Salem at lunch time be sure to give this place a try. You won't be disappointed.

I go to this establishment often for lunch mostly. It's clean and the manager is okay, even though he needs a dishwasher and looks like someone to help him I was their two days ago and yes he was working alone, and yes the service was good. Another jewel in the downtown location.

Like others said, it's a great little hole in the wall place. I've lived in winston for 10 years and passed by this place several times without knowing it. Finally looked up some breakfast nooks for my husband and I to go and the menu is straightforward with good prices. I ordered a sandwich, hash browns, and large oj, and my hubs ordered a sandwich, French toast with two eggs and bacon and a coffee. It was SO much food, and it was just over $20 total. They used real country ham and eggs, and everything was just very good. Wasn't crazy about the sticky table, but I guess that comes with the no frills territory. It was pretty busy when we got there at 8, but by 8:30, the place had pretty much cleared out. If you want a nice big hearty breakfast, go here!

This place is the best kept secret in downtown Winston for lunch. It’s unpretentious like most of the newer dining options are. The prices are reasonable. They have oil cloth on each table. I ordered the Carolina cheeseburger. It comes with homemade chili, coleslaw, mustard, chopped onions, and American cheese. The brioche bun and coleslaw elevate this burger to the status of best burger in North Carolina. Hands down. If you haven’t checked this place out yet, you are truly missing out. What are you waiting for?

I travel a lot for work and I have passed by this place dozens of times and decided to stop in for lunch today. Super glad I did! I had the grilled chicken sandwich on a brioche bun. Great food with an awesome location in downtown Winston Salem. The food is very reasonably priced. Met the owner John. Great guy! highly recommend Murphy’s lunch.
