Winkler Bakery

This was the cutest historical bakery! You HAVE to try the peanut brittle, it was above and beyond delicious! It's set in its old German heritage, which is absolutely adorable. This part of historic down town Winston Salam is absolutely the cutest place, and a must see and visit!

The bakery and all of Old Salem is well worth a visit. There are two options for tickets. $20 gets you in to two buildings and $30 gets you in to all 11 buildings. I didn’t think I would find it that informative since I’ve been to other pioneer-like villages, but I was very impressed as the Moravian culture is different, and I learned a lot. If you don’t have time/money, you can also just walk around the town and not enter any of the buildings that have interpreters. We were there in March and it was very quiet and easy to park. The bakery is known for its sugar cookies and traditional sugar cake. Yummy!

Amazing homemade apple strudel… it was essentially a massive hand pie and I ate every bite. This place is so cute and worth the visit!

Nice little old bakery right in Old Salem. Staff was super friendly and showed how they bake in the wood fired oven. Also gave free cookie samples. Everything we tried was delicious. Would definitely recommend if you are visiting Old Salem or the surrounding area.

I'm afraid Dewey's lost their mojo many years ago when it comes to Lovefeast buns. Winkler's has the best Lovefeast buns, perhaps the only other rival is Mrs. Pumpkins. Their sugar cookies are good as well, and are different from Mrs. Hanes and Dewey's. They also have some great loaves of bread, sugar cake, and many other items. It's a must to visit.

The cinnamon rolls were amazing, had raisin, will definitely buy those again, 10seconds in microwave, just need a taller container, so the icing isn't completely stuck to the lid! Love the smell of the store!

This establishment has ALWAYS had fantastic service and products. There aren't enough positive adjectives to describe their Moravian Lovefeast Buns! I highly recommend a visit!

I love that this bakery is both a historical landmark that teaches you about Moravian history and also a gift shop! We picked up some sugar cake and ginger cookies. Both were tasty, but the sugar cake made our bland hotel coffee much more dynamic the next morning! Would definitely recommend stopping in. It wasn't too busy at all mid morning on a weekday. Plus, you can burn a few of those cake calories walking around Old Salem!

Old-fashioned bakery with foods like those baked in an outside wood-fire oven, so not a big selection, but it is what it is. Back in the 1700's the selection wasn't like it is today. Part of old-town Salem, NC. Lots to see in the area, and not nearly enough time to see most of it. We were only here for a couple of hours and these old legs and hips had enough. 😊

Delicious baked goods and very cool old bakery. The sugar cake and cinnamon rolls are delicious. We left with lemon cookies and have been enjoying them all week!

Everything I bought and tried was absolutely DELICIOUS! My favorite thing (that I will definitely be back to buy more of) was the cheese stars. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Don’t miss the gift shop on the second floor.

A must stop while visiting Old salem Village. The Moravian sugar bread is awesome. Go during the week less busy and everything baked fresh.

Always a great place to purchase baked goods and enjoy the town of Old Salem. Check for hours for Winklers to be sure they're open.

This place is amazing! I love how authentically historic it is, plus they serve so many tasty treats! I’ve tried a bunch and all are delicious, but the Moravian sugar cake may be my favorite. They also have several pre-packaged snacks, which are also delicious — especially the spicy cheese stars!

The best rosemary and garlic bread we have ever had! As soon as you walk In the door the wonderful smell of bread takes you away! Cute place with friendly staff! The pumpkin muffins where very good. Great experience.

Lots of history in this place! I loved watching the children participate in the baking demonstrations. We purchased a variety cookie tin and have enjoyed all the flavors. Looking forward to opening up our cherry streudel when we get back to our hotel. It was hard to not buy one of everything, it all smelled so good!

Great breads. You do NOT need a ticket to Old Salem to visit (though you absolutely should buy one and explore if you haven't) and you can park nearby. They take cards as well. A truly neat and historic spot. The goods are a little pricy, but delicious and worth it.

You can feel the history of Old Salem. Winkler's is a family favorite. You can't go wrong with anything baked here, but I especially recommend the Moravian cookies and lovefeast rolls.
