Salem Square

This square is the centerpiece of Old Salem. Everything social happened on the square, in the old days and now. On selected Tuesday nights in the summer, Salem Band (a wonderful concert band originated in 1771) plays swing, classical, and contemporary show tunes to a mass of locals and tourists on the square. A throwback to the large gatherings through time, where children frolic and everyone sprawls in yard chairs to enjoy food and fun.

Need a place to reflect on life's serious moments? Take a stroll down to Salem Square and commune with nature in the middle of an historic space. You'll see school kids visiting the buildings, the public in general, and possible students from Salem college.

Perfect summer evening Salem Band concert in the soul of the city.

This is a large, grassy area with a plaque about the first July 4th celebration and not much else. In a far corner there is a working hand water pump that's pretty cool. Reenactors regularly come to it to get water in buckets.
