Topside Inn

I took my wife to Topsides Inn for her birthday. The experience was ‘over the top’.

When we arrived we were taken to a table overlooking the main lawn. We were served a tasty profiterole with cheese and cucumber lemonade mocktail with some cucumber infused vodka on the side. Later on we celebrated her birthday with friends and Prosecco, and a cheese and savory board.

Our room was a corner one with a beautiful view of Boothbay Harbor. The king size bed was very nice. The room also had a wine bar with a variety of reds and whites to choose from. As it was her birthday, I asked for a bouquet of flowers to be in the room when we arrived. They made a beautiful arrangement made up from their garden and other suppliers.

While they don’t offer dinner (there are several very nice restaurants nearby), their breakfast buffet is the best I’ve ever enjoyed. There was a good selection of muffins and fruits (the staff brought out a muffin with a birthday candle). They also offer a “sweet” or “savory “ main dish. That day it was eggs Benedict over either salmon or ham. (PS the eggs are fresh from the hens they keep on the grounds. Each hen has a name a photo of them.)

The grounds and rooms are well designed and appointed. The staff is very cordial and attentive to your requests. The cost for this overnight stay was reasonable for what was delivered. The time spent there was over the top.

The Topside Inn ruined me for all other inns and hotel stays in the future. If you’re looking for a place to stay in Boothbay Harbor, LOOK NO FURTHER.

We stayed two nights at the Topside for our trip along the Maine coast, celebrating our 13th anniversary, and the Topside really went above and beyond. They wrote the book on what hospitality is and should be! When we arrived, Liam greeted us and gave us a tour, along with the most deliciously fresh mocktail/cocktail and lite bite board. Every single staff member we interacted with during our stay was SO friendly - especially Liam!

The views from the Topside are incredible. Even better- staying in a room with a balcony that shares that view to the water. I didn’t want to leave! The room is so comfortable and well thought out - someone really thought through the little things and it showed! It was clean and incredibly comfortable - that mattress was like sleeping on a cloud. The best part was the balcony. Spending an evening there after a day of adventures was SO relaxing - the balcony with the view was worth it in itself! The bathroom and the shower fixtures were SO nice. Truly not one improvement needed in these accommodations.

Hospitality is the name of the game here - they remember who you are, are incredibly thoughtful, and have great recommendations for the area. We’ll definitely be back, as the Topside has easily nestled itself into a new tradition for our Maine adventures.

We live in the area and don’t usually stay in Boothbay due to the low quality of hotels. A friend recommended Topside and said “ you won’t be disappointed “ AND she was Right!!!

Wow, the perfect place, highly recommended!! Wonderful accommodations, spectacular breakfasts and beautiful views. They have thought of everything you need in a stay.

Our anniversary celebration was perfect at the Topside Inn. Start to finish we had a fabulous stay. The room was beautiful with a cozy fireplace and the patio view was hard to beat. One of our highlights were the Cookie Du Jour....a different homemade cookie everyday. It was difficult to pick a favorite, but we definitely looked forward to each one. The gourmet breakfast was another highlight. Everything was fresh and delicious. My husband especially liked the banana French toast, but I'm still dreaming about the carrot cake pancakes with maple cream cheese drizzle. Mark, Buzz and Rebecka were gracious hosts. They made great suggestions, and their fabulous website got my planning off to a great start. The entire staff was awesome. The location is perfect being a bit away from the hustle and bustle of town, but close enough to walk within minutes into town. If your travel plans bring you to Boothbay Harbor, look no farther than Topside Inn for your accommodations. You will be in for a luxurious treat!

If looking to stay in the Boothbay Harbor area, Top Side will be a wonderful choice.

From the moment you check in, the excellent service, staff and thoughtful touches are clear. The two owners have done a great job making this inn a perfect destination that you will want to return to.

Oh and the daily breakfast is amazing and so thoughtfully executed.

Everything was clean, the local artwork in the inn and rooms was a nice touch, and the location cannot be out done: everything is a short walk down the hill, shops restaurants and boat rides.

We had an amazing stay, and would love to come back!

Being our first stay in a small inn or bed and breakfast, we were not sure exactly what to expect - but were very pleased. Small enough for exception service while still allowing for your own space when desired.

The Topside Inn lives up to the many positive reviews and awards. Our Leeward Premium Harbor View was plenty spacious and comfortable, with our own semi-private deck was the perfect place to enjoy a cup of coffee with the lawn or main building porch a perfect spot to unwind.

Breakfast was outstanding each morning with great service throughout our stay. Rooms and common areas were always spotless and looked newly renovated.

The Inn is in a great location at the top of the hill, being a short walk to the harbor, restaurants and shopping.

It was clear why many of the guests we met at breakfast were return guests to the Topside Inn, we will definitely return here in the future.

We def want to come back to this lovely inn, with amazing staff, and breakfasts to die for! This was our first visit, and we stayed in the Windward Jr. Suite. The decor was tasteful, and the view from the deck was unbeatable, with a comfortable bed and luxurious soaking tub. The only downsides to our stay were to do with the room itself, but were unavoidable given the location of the room in the building. The room had a musty smell, which seemed inevitable as it's at a walkout basement level (into the hillside), and so it would be difficult to keep it in an ideally dry state. Also, the structure is such that the sounds from the people in the 2 rooms overhead were clearly audible; footsteps, doors, drawers, etc. We're light sleepers, who travel with our own white noise, and would recommend that for anyone else for whom noise is an issue, that you request to stay on one of the top floors of the inn. That's what we plan to do, as this really is a wonderful inn!!

We LOVED The Topside. We came to New England from Colorado for a “color” trip but wanted to get some water time before heading West. Turns out it was a lousy year for color but great at Booth Bay.
The rooms are a little small but didn’t matter because everything and everyone was great. They have covered every detail and they are well known for a fabulous breakfast.

There's really nothing bad to say about this place. I've been visiting nearly every year since 2009, and even though it doesn't seem possible, it just keeps getting better and better. No detail is left undone. The entire property is to tastefully and thoughtfully decorated, the beds are incredibly comfortable, and all of the guest areas are gorgeous, roomy and comfortable. But the breakfasts are the reason to adore the Topside. Every day they create masterful breakfast entrees, alternating from sweet to savory, with a delightful spread of fresh, homemade items including their delicious homemade granola, breads and jams PLUS other wonderful things like lemon pound cake or bacon and gruyere deviled eggs. They added a little cocktail lounge a few years ago, and they mix insane craft cocktails and serve wines and local beers at really reasonable prices. The view from this place is incomparable, because the inn sits on a hill at the highest point in town, but it's also just steps away from all the shops and restaurants in Boothbay. The lawn is scattered with pairs of Adirondack chairs and lobster themed cornole sets, so you can play or simply admire their gorgeous gardens and that stunning harbor view. Buzz and Mark are delightful hosts, so warm and friendly, and the entire staff is completely dedicated to the best possible service. I adore this place; it's totally my happy place, and that's why I keep coming back.

The Topside Inn is the very best place to stay in Boothbay Harbor. The rooms are beautiful. The food is exceptional. The attention to detail is everything you could ask for. The staff are friendly, helpful, and fun. And the view....spectacular.

What a wonderful getaway for my wife's birthday without our three children in tow!

From the welcome greeting and history of the Inn from JP on arrival, we knew this spot would serve as a relaxing backdrop for our week. The rooms were cozy and had beautiful views of the Harbor on the deck with lounge seating as well as blankets to cover up on those chilly mornings or evenings while sitting outside.

The property has a wonderful vantage point of Boothbay Harbor and offers such a breathtaking view from their veranda or on their front lawn whilst relaxing in one of the many Adirondack chairs. The breakfast each morning is such a culinary delight and was something we looked forward to as well as the afternoon cookie of the day.

This location was just a short downhill walk to town where you could catch a boat or ferry to see puffins or the whales, Monhegan Island and a short drive to Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, and so many other adventures.

Thank you for a wonderful, relaxing trip and we will be sure to visit again in the near future as this place is a gem if you are considering staying in the Boothbay Harbor region.

The start of this amazing visit was how easy it was to book the stay. TIP: Book early! The website pictures were very accurate about the room as well as the property. The whole staff was amazing and extra helpful. The breakfasts were over the top!! If I could give them more than 5 stars I would have.

From the moment we stepped onto Buzz and Mark's property we knew it was special. JP assisted us with getting settled in and did a great job of making us feel like family. From the greeting to the wonderful welcome cocktail served, we felt at home. Walking out onto the front lawn to relax we encountered a view of the harbor that was nothing short of stunning. Couple that with the wonderful gardens surrounding this slice of heaven told us we had arrived at what was going to be the highlight of our trip.

The Inn is spacious, the rooms well appointed, quiet and restful. The other guests were a delight to talk with. The staff was over the top helpful with recommendations of things to do, places to see and where to eat. There recommendations where always spot on. Every day the staff re-set our room, so when we returned from a day out, it was like checking into a new room. That coupled with great drinks served by Bobby in the bar, excellent Hors D'oeuvre served by JP on the lawn and some great games of Lobster Hole with other guests made the whole package better than anything we experienced in Boston, Bar Harbor, Portland, or Kennebunk Port.

The couple we traveled with came over for from their property and immediately experienced "Inn envy" and that means something from two people who only stay at the best properties like us.

When we return, and that will be soon, we plan on making Topside Inn our home away from home!

We loved our stay here. Delicious breakfast with many choices, super comfortable bed and very clean room. Great service and location too. They were especially nice to give us a late checkout when we had a flight delay.

Absolutely magical stay at the Topside Inn. After reading so many glowing reviews and articles about it, I was hoping it would truly be everything I had heard it would be, and it was all that and more. All the staff are such gracious and welcoming hosts. Savannah and Rebekah were so friendly, efficient, and welcoming. We had many great conversations with Greg, who we ran into in town at dinner, and we chatted for a while he gave us the best recommendation to check out the live band at Mine Oyster and we had a blast there. Such a great ambassador for the Topside and for Boothbay Harbor. I have to admit I was a bit starstruck to meet Marc and Buzz after reading so much about them (this trip was a few years in the making), but their genuine, calming and friendly presence just puts you at ease! And their food lives up to ALL they hype. We so enjoyed talking with everyone at the Inn, staff and guests alike. The view looking out over the harbor from the top of hill can't be beat. We had the most relaxing and generally just delightful 3 days at Topside and can't wait to come back soon!

We had a wonderful vacation at the Topside Inn. The views, the people and the food were simply lovely. From the delicious breakfast and coffee each morning to the tasty afternoon snacks, it was a welcomed break from it all.
We loved our room (#8), it was spacious, comfortable with well-appointed. We look forward to our next visit and can't imagine staying anyplace else in Booth Bay Harbor.

Our anniversary getaway at Topside Inn was unforgettable. Buzz and Mark warmly welcomed us. Beautiful tulips, chilled bubbly, and an almost too pretty to eat cheeseboard was in our room upon arrival. Our room, #3, was immaculate and comfortable. The sunrises in the bay windows were priceless. The pleasantly scented toiletries were a nice touch. The overhead heat while showering was a real treat. The gourmet breakfasts were delicious. The fresh whipped butters were heavenly. Buzz, Mark, Rebekah, and JP were friendly and knowledgeable about where to shop and where to eat. The warm cookies in the afternoon were scrumptious. I've never played cornhole with such a gorgeous view. Buzz and Mark put their heart 'n soul into Topside Inn and it shows. They even signed our cookbook. We look forward to staying at Topside Inn again.

I stayed 6 days, and I loved every single day that I was here. Mark and Buzz were awesome, extremely friendly, and kind. The breakfast was some the best 👌 Even my friends who don't eat breakfast ate breakfast every single day. Thank you for having us at your beautiful place.

If you want top notch this is your place. Buzz, Mark, Rebekah and JP are outstanding. Breakfast is too die for. Every morning it's an amazing experience. The rooms are so comfortable and all decorated exceptionally well. Beds are so comfy and the sheets are the best. Ordered a set for our bed at home. If you want to be treated like a star this is your place. The view is amazing. It's the only place you will want to stay at and it's why we come back year after year.

Lives up to the hype! This was such a lovely little trip made even better by the amazing room, views and staff. No matter what direction you look in, the views are spectacular. People were just so happy to be there, everyone was friendly (even the other guests). The innkeepers just did a ton of work and the renovations are beautiful. I cannot get over the food either. When we got there, they had warm, fresh baked, homemade cookies. Then the breakfast in the morning was decadent. Everyone we met that worked there was very kind and truly cared that we had an amazing experience. Very much looking forward to returning.
