Monty's Blue Plate Diner

Classic traditional diner in the middle of an of anything but neighborhood of Madison. Standard breakfast is prepared properly with a sides of biscuit and tasty american fries. Lunch/dinner fare simple but solid. Lead by the turkey and meatloaf plates they don't disappoint. They have plenty of vegetarian and a few vegan offerings as well. Rounding out the offerings are the housemaid shakes/malts. One day, I'll tackle a Fat Elvis.

Fast, friendly, delicious, nutritious. Great vegan and vegetarian options. Plenty of choices for meat eaters. Nice atmosphere. Both, table, and counter seating. Nice outdoor seating available with umbrellas. Well managed. Long-time favorite of locals and visitors to the city. Delicious pastries.

The food was amazingly delicious, our person Ashley was super friendly and efficient and the price was cheap. Highly recommend!!!

We were going to the barrymore, so we stopped at monty's beforehand for dinner. We also stopped back over after the show for dessert. That was the best key lime pie I've ever had. It just looked so good that I had to give it a try even tho key lime isn't even something i usually go for.

We had great service today at monty's, and these banana vegan pancakes were so good I wanted to die. I live on the west side and just as I was thinking, am I really driving almost a half an hour to get to brunch? Yes. Yes I really am and it was 110% worth it. My friend is not vegan, and what she ate looked amazing, and she still said she wished she had ordered these pancakes when she tried mine. (Then I stabbed her hand with my fork.) Come here for brunch and get great vegan pie and shakes and mimosas and tofu scrambles and potatoes and these amazing pancakes. ** Update: next time I came I ordered the tofu scramble AND the vegan banana pancakes, and a box. Divided in half, took half home!

The food is always tasty and hot! The atmosphere is so unique and retro. Our waitress was super kind and helpful as well. As a vegetarian, I was happy to see so many meatless options :)

The peppers added into the sausage gravy was an interesting and tasty touch. All the traditional dishes had a sort of Southwest twist that gave them unique and unconventional flavors. VERY retro and classy interior with lots of interesting decor. Large satisfying servings. Vegan menu was available at the table.

Great food and especially great service with super friendly staff. The waiting time is pretty accurate, free coffee refills is amazing, and you can also add stuff to/customize menu items.

I got eggs Eggs Florentine with added mushrooms (attached).

Will be going back to explore the menu!

This is such a wonderful place... Like time stood still in there best ways! The food is so hearty and delicious ... Like when did was still homemade. The atmosphere and staff is so warm and welcoming too!

I had the special "food of the gods" meatloaf... OMG! So tender and delicious... And the gravy, mashed potatoes, butter/salt broccoli, and biscuit were perfect!

Leslie had the baked fish (I forget what type of fish it was), ... It was most and tender and perfectly cooked. Beautiful roasted potato slices, broccoli and biscuit. A real winner!

We couldn't eat another bite after our entrees, so we bought a slice each of German chocolate and carrot cakes to bring home.

I can't wait to go back!

Amazing food! The portobello mushroom sandwich was so good and the tofu scramble was fantastic. It took awhile to get are order taken but once they got around to us the server was very nice. And on a nice spring morning, sitting outside for breakfast on the patio was so nice.

I had the heathen vegan shoplifter’s delight and it was very delicious and filling. It was better than any mushroom sandwich I’ve had before and they do tempeh right. They have a whole vegan menu with dessert (including pie) but I was too full to try dessert. The decor is pretty. Excellent service even when busy

Where to start….?

My visit here yesterday was completely random and unexpected and it made my day, week, month and year. Yes, it truly did. I’m excited to start my new year with Monty’s.

My husband and I took a trip to Madison yesterday to stop at Hilldale Mall for a couple things. On the way I googled vegan eats in the area and Monty’s was on our route. BEST DECISION!!!!

1. Donovan was our server. AMAZING! What a great attitude. So friendly and welcoming. Everything he recommended was on point. He made our experience wonderful.

2. We had the Vegan Sweet Potato Hash & Vegan Banana Walnut Pancakes. Outstanding. If we did not live over an hour away we would order this weekly. So delicious!!!!

3. Vegan brownie and strawberry rhubarb pie. Yum!!! Donovan recommended and I was sold. I took this home and enjoyed it!

4. Nice comfortable setting.

5. Great price point.

Today was my first time at this award-winning, beloved neighborhood restaurant. I had the Bistro Burger which was absolutely delicious 😋 and the massive Hot Fudge Brownie Sundae which satisfied my sweet tooth 😍 The GM, Eric, was attentive and very personable. Server Alan was the bomb and took great care of me. I will most definitely be back, thank you for a great experience.

Had the falafel wrap and vegetarian chili. Always a great place to eat. Don't be afraid to try something out of your comfort zone. My daughter and I just stopped in for dessert. Had rhubarb strawberry pie ala mode and a lemon and white chocolate pie.

Wonderful vibe and the best place to have a nice kick start to a great morning. My husband and I are vegans so it's so nice to go to a vegan friendly diner! The atmosphere was welcoming and had a home feel to it. The tofu scramble platter was so good! We're very grateful for this place. Thank you.

Staff was kind and welcoming; we received our food surprisingly fast on a busy afternoon. The dine-in area was very clean, and setup to allow for social-distancing. They had an option to view the menu online (rather than giving paper copies) by using your phone and scanning a link at the table, which I appreciated. The food was basic—still delicious but nothing spectacular. Overall, comfortable and affordable diner in a nice part of the city.

I enjoyed and ordered the spinach and feta omelette. I asked if I could make that an egg white omelette and it was no problem. Got the breakfast potatoes extra crispy on the side, these were so good and crispy just how I like them. The omelette was delicious as well. If I were in the area again I would def go back and try out another plate. Lots of vegan options, they have a separate vegan menu.

Very good! Visiting Madison from Houston for a few days. Came in for a late breakfast. Had the country plate with Egg Whites, bacon, potatoes and a biscuit. All good! Coffee was fine. Maybe I'd ask they toast the biscuit, since it was a bit cold, but not a world ender by any means. The vegan banana walnut pancakes also really looked! Definitely worth a try!

I cannot say enough about how amazing this place is. My wife said vegetarian and I'm not. Finding a place with such diverse vegetarian options is extremely rare. This place needs to be protected at all costs!
The service was amazing as well. We set up the bar and were promptly waited on. The food was by far some of the best I've had in a while. This will be my go-to restaurant every time I'm in Madison. Thanks for the good times.
