Awesome collection of rocks and minerals. Personally I own over 200 varieties of rocks and minerals, and I had never heard of or seen 90% of what is at the museum. My mind was blown. We managed to catch them during a sale as well and snagged some good pieces for cheap. Would definitely come back just for purchasing minerals.

Great place to visit if you are visiting Houghton and Michigan Tech. In terms of museums, probably one of the finest collections of minerals in the entire US. Open the entire week and on Sundays as well. The tickets for Michigan Tech students cost $4, and if you are a non-michigan tech student, it costs $8 for an adult. They have a beautiful gift shop to take a piece of mineral marvel with yourself.

Takes about 30 minutes if you read absolutely nothing

I had 40 minutes to spare, so I decided to check this place out. Even though I barely had any time, I still thoroughly enjoyed my visit

The gift shop seemed extensive. I bought a piece of bismuth for $12

Wonderful self-guided tour. They have a very expansive collection and the gift shop has some beautiful minerals and rocks that can be purchased at nominal prices. The best thing is the ticket allows you entrance for two additional days.

Learn about the local mining history, geological processes that led to mineral deposits, and the best part-spend a lot of time looking at a huge collection of mineral samples from all over the world. The fluorescent minerals exhibit is a small but brilliant exhibit. There are chairs throughout the museum to rest, and the gift shop has some unique items.

This museum rocks!

Thousands of different items on display, from all over the world and so many different types. I quite liked how it was arranged, as well. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it walked you through how different minerals are formed, and also had large sections of local interest (e.g. iron & copper from this area of the continent), including telling the history of mining operations in those places. The fluorescent room was also really cool. Quite a variety available in the gift shop, as well, at prices that seemed quite reasonable to me.

This place is AWESOME!! I've been here a lot. To me there are always new exhibits and is changed around on a regular giving a fresh look. Staff is very polite and knowledgeable. If you plan on getting rocks & mineral souvenirs get them here even there jewelry is very reasonable priced compared to getting them elsewhere around the area. This will always be one of my favorite places to go and visit. I had a blast bringing my young boys to see there faces light up looking at all the exhibits especially the fluorescent room. They want to go back.

Amazing displays in a nice, clean, spacious gallery. It's easy to spend too much time in the gift shop.

It'll take all day , so make plans for 4 hours or more . And it's a long drive from anywhere . Informative day trip and our second visit . Didn't allow enough time on our first visit 8 years ago .

An amazing collection of minerals. There are lots of explanations about the different minerals and what makes them unique and different. You do not have to be an expert to appreciate the variety of minerals found there. Don't skip the fluorescent minerals collection, it is informative and fascinating.

Awesome! When you first walk in the gift shop, it's hard to tell how big the museum is. It's much bigger than it looks. Amazing specimens and lots of information!

Super great place for the family, you can go back the day after if you didn’t get to fully explore the first day if you have your receipt, the gift shop and fluorescent room are pretty cool the bathrooms were clean and the admission is fair for everything you get to see; the copper in the pavilion outside was amazingly huge I like the informative plaques as well the garden is nice next to it except it could be kept up a bit more otherwise it’s nice!

Really cool collections and great gift shop, could be better to visit over 2 days rather than trying to digest it all in one day.
