I was out out of work at the beginning of the pandemic due to my children’s mandated school closures to do remote. Filed for pandemic unemployment and was approved, over 2 years later received an overpayment demanding over 13,000 back. I had an appeal and apparently my job was being asked about leaving. So during the appeal I told them I didn’t quit I had to leave and I addressed whatever issue they thought the employer had. I have called over 380 times I have emailed 115 times. I have requested information over 100 times. And I have had 8 appeals requesting that they remand my decision back to pandemic 2020 unemployment, because that’s what it should’ve been. Unemployment misclassified me as regular unemployment instead. So each time I have an appeal, they will not add this issue to discuss on the docket. They keep reverting to speak about and with the employer. Instead of the mandatory school closure that I originally applied because of. This is also with a lawyer on my case. I was recently let go from a job after taking a medical leave. I should’ve been approved for unemployment no problem. But instead between what I earned and my taxes they’ve taken the $13,000 back. I am a single parent, unemployed, broke and cannot get thru to these people!!!! I have another appeal coming up for which I’m sure they will not allow me to discuss pandemic related school closures again. It has caused me to do mortgage forbearance and I’m losing everything I own! Meanwhile I’ve applied at 186 jobs! Edit- Now they shut the phones off most of the day and it says they’re closed at 2pm, but hours say 4! Also I’ve been there in person several times waited for the booth phone call to speak with someone for 5 hours and had to leave, another time I was told. Oh, you need a claims examiner to call you. We’ll have one call you you can go home, that was 7 months ago! I’ve done everything in my power. They’re really trying to just keep my money. This should be illegal.

I was extremely polite on the phone and was asking a very simple question to clarify a misunderstanding and the woman on the phone kept cutting me off.
I was then screamed at and hung up on. This department is an absolute disgrace to public service. I don't know if they just hire people who ate nasty or if the job does this to them but whatever is going on our tax dollars are paying for it.

Is this how we pay our taxes for? Call center is only available 7:30 am to 9am! and when you call at 7 you ended up waiting too! Agents are super nasty no compassion! horrible service!

The worst place to go if you need help with anything (Job training unemployment) I wouldn’t give this establishment 1 star. Mrs Smith is suppose to be helping me but I can’t ever get her on the phone Mrs Pichardo took my paperwork initially and between the both of these case workers I am getting nowhere. I hope the higher up step in and start moving staff around. This place gets -0 star

6 months iv been waiting for them to approve my claim! I called multiple times and they keep telling me its a first come first serve basis and when someone will eventually get to your case and review it. Never will I ever work for new jersey state. They are deliberately doing this in order to not pay out unemployment benefits. I worked throughout the height of the pandemic as an essential worker, meanwhile people intentionally quit their jobs so they could sit on unemployment because they were to scared to go to work and received double the benefits then i am currently suppose to receive, Hands down worst of the worst department. When i was laid off back in 2018 NY was paying me my benefits asap!
