I would give it 6 stars if I could. Such a well-organized, beautiful looking place with friendly staff and clean amenities. We are beginner climbers who were visiting with young kids; all of us enjoyed the climbs and left wanting to return. The rates are reasonable and they were very accommodating with our family's needs.

I've been climbing since 2002 and have visited close to 30 different gyms in that time. I can confidently say that MBP is easily among the best. I've been aware of them since they opened, but never had the time to visit while I was in town. The facility is bright, airy and open, with good filtration. The staff at the front counter were welcoming and very friendly and given how swamped they were, got us checked in quickly. The route setting was of a very high quality with a good mix of comp style boulders and problems one might see outside. Despite not having climbed in a few years, the grades felt accurate and there was really good flow. One of the harder things to accomplish as a setter is fun, flowy, problems at the lower end of the grade range and the team nailed that. Overall I was thoroughly impressed. If I had to find one critique, it would be the lockers. While the locker rooms were large, the lockers did not have built-in locks and that caught me off guard. Luckily, the person who I came with had a lock so it was all good. Having worked in the industry in the past, I can confidently say this is a very high quality gym, well done!

I’ve been climbing at MBP with friends for a few years. It’s always a fun experience, no matter your skill level. I’ve gone with friends who have never climbed and friends who have been climbing their whole life.
The gym is clean, large, and has a nice range of difficulty. The environment is relaxed and not judgmental at all.
If you’re interested in bouldering, definitely check this place out! :)

Biggest bounding facility that im aware of in the twin cities! Really great & fun staff. Bathrooms have a sauna & showers which is awesome. Tons of walls to climb for all skill levels! We went late in the day and I found the grips to be pretty caked with sweat & chalk. Overall it’s a great way to spend an hour or two with friends!

Majorly cool! Very stoked for the opening. I like the route setting protocol, and they've got awesome facilities shaping out. There's the climbing, of course, but also a fitness studio, locker rooms, social area, a birthday room, youth areas, toddler climbs... It looks like they've thought about this comprehensively.

Phenomenal bouldering gym. Great staff, solid facility. Routes are regularly reset by skilled climbers. They've got a solid gym and a decent sized sauna too

I have spent so much money on day passes here because I love it so much. I think I might just buy a membership because I would come here all the time! A day pass is around 20 + some extra if you wanna rent shoes. They are always very friendly at the front desk! I have never had a bad experience even when I am being difficult and give them a manual card entry instead of actually having the physical credit card.

The place is so large and there are boulders for all skill levels! I am not very good, so I cannot do pinks, blacks, or whites, but I have gotten a good amount of purples and some oranges. The other fellow climbers here are also very friendly! I can chat just about anyone up and they will reciprocate the same energy.

They also have a nice gym area! My buddy Lucky squatted 405 in there with no warmup! When I get tired for climbing, I'll go to the gym area, deadlift, then go climb some more. The mats that you fall onto are also very nice. I am a tad bit fearful of heights, but every time I fall, it is like landing in a pile of cotton candy. The mats absorb me.

I signed my 4 year old up for pebbles class, he loved it! The place is set up well, the instructors are friendly and great with kids. Turns out they have Birthday parties (private room & instructors) and parents night! Very excited to watch my 4yo continue his exploration of rock climbing... Not on my retaining wall.

Radest woody on the block.
I've been to my share of gyms around the country and this one is up there on my top list. It's got some great features from yoga room, fitness center, bathroom and shower facilities, sick music, fun vibes, and the best part, endless possibilities of bouldering! There are a TON of routes and they use a color grade system so the grade depends on the color. They had some great routes when I went but I feel like the setters might be a bit too overwhelmed with the amount of routes set up there, because I didn't feel like there were a lot of "cool" or "special" routes with crazy moves or anything to really push the limits, now granted I can only climb to V7 so the "cool" routes could've been a higher grade, but I felt like I had a pretty good feel for most of the routes after climbing for about 5 hours. Now don't get me wrong! I loved this place, I just think that a gym this big the setters could've had some awesome and really fun routes thrown in (which is easy to fix and might have changed since I wrote this review), but I kept feeling like the routes were a little monotonous at the end of the day. And I'm also an avid climber from out of town so maybe those routes fit perfect for all you city folks who are new to climbing. Anyway, I loved it! Just feel like there's no reason the setters can't push themselves a bit more with an amazing gym like this at their fingertips, literally.

What an ambitious project. M|BP has nailed it.

1. Great bouldering, color coded NOT taped.
2. Friendly, knowledgeable and skilled staff
3. Route setting is above average
4. Yoga area, lounge mezzanine, workout are with cardio and expansive kids area
5. Next to a pub, with good local beer

Only improvement could be a coffee bar in the lounge mezzanine area.

Staff are great. The facility is very large and has a wide variety of routes for people of different skill level. Re-routing is done on a regular basis and the membership was affordable. Would 100% recommend to anyone. May move back to MSP just for this gym.

The people are super friendly & this is a happy place for anyone who needs to relieve stress, find their center, get in a state of flow or have a reason to be grateful at the end of the day. It was my first time here today but it certainly will not be my last. Thank you for a most wonderful and joyous time!

The Minneapolis Bouldering Project is unlike any gym I've ever joined! Their team consist of A1 individuals. Their members come from all aspects of life.

To anyone on the fence about visiting, I encourage you to come visit the gym a few times and immerse yourself in the fun/loving culture that MBP. You'll quickly understand the success behind their business, and why the members choose to stay.

My husband and I have come a few times with friends and we always have a great time! They change up the walls after some time so it is not always the same set up. Lots of fun!

Awesome gym. Super huge and clean. They sell gear, snacks and swag at a reasonable price. The bathrooms are great and have showers and lockers (they also sell locks for cheap). Really friendly staff!

Bouldering wise, my favorite thing about this gym is that the routes are immaculate. The lighting is great and the holds are super readable. This is something that is kind of subtle but if you get used to this you will be spoiled for climbing gyms forever.

The style of setting is more focused on problem solving than power and grip strength. There are slabs are like 100 degrees. Slabs at other gyms are probably like 80 or 70 degrees. It's probably less likely to emulate routes in the wild but I don't think that's the goal in the first place.

The only gripe I could hear about these Bouldering projects is that the route setting and circuit system is definitely catered toward beginners. That's fine for me because I am not very good at climbing haha. If you want to try out Bouldering or are looking for a home gym, this is probably it.

Love stopping by this gym when I'm vising Minnesota. Great variety of climbs and a huge, clean space that is very welcoming. Staff is great as is the local climbing community there. Love seeing that they have kid-friendly routes and are encouraging of new climbers entering the sport. Always a fun spot!

Large space with tons of boulder problems on all types of terrain and for all ability levels. I like the grading system: just pick a color or two in your range and go for it without being hung up on a number. I like that there are lots of comp style boulders because not many gyms offer that. But there offerings for all styles. The gym seems to take interest in the growth of the sport and offers lots of opportunities for kids. There is a large kids area and much of the gym has kid friendly setting. So be prepared to share the space with little crushers especially on the weekends. Don’t be surprised when an 9 year old flashes your project.
