Sushi Yokohama

Update May 2024: we came here for a birthday and they were generous to give us a free sushi roll and a fried ice cream. I am never disappointed when I come here!!

There are many sushi places in the area, but we always come back to Yokohama. Every time we go, we know we will get delicious sushi at a fraction of the price compared to the restaurants around but the quality is still just as good, if not better! We got a seat at the bar, where we watched the sushi chefs work their magic. Fun atmosphere and delicious food!

Enjoyed coming here, service was prompt, and food came out pretty quickly! Shrimp tempura roll is always a favorite, but I also liked the peanut avocado roll.

Where I learned about spicy crunchy kani/ seaweed salad (years ago), it's still so good!!

This has been our favorite sushi spot. We've been dining at this restaurant for over a decade, even before they moved. It's the top choice for local sushi and their chicken katsu is simply the best.

Environment: Casual yet inviting, not a real loud dining but you can feel comfortable having a conversation and enjoying yourself. The place gets busy and seems to be a great family spot. Food: excellent. Presented well, reasonably priced, consistent. Would certainly recommend to anyone who likes sushi and a casual dining experience. Wanting I asked for an iced tea and got a can of Brisk ice tea, not that there’s anything wrong with that but was expected a glass on unsweetened. I guess either of us could be at fault for not clarifying or asking.

Delicious and fresh sushi. We got the Yummy Yummy, Hurricane, and Godzilla rolls and enjoyed them very much. The three rolls took a little while to arrive but the service was nice so I can’t complain. I would definitely come back and recommend a try!

Update: they now have a Main Street roll and it’s the best. One hundred recommend this special as it has avocado, shrimp tempura, honey crabmeat, etc.

Now for my standard COVID comments as of March 2022. All staff members are wearing masks. Each table has hand sanitizer provided. Seating is pretty spaced indoors. Felt very comfortable sitting inside and enjoying my lunch!

If I could give it more stars I would. The food is great and the staff as well. I’ve been going here for years now and they’re always so attentive. They just expanded and moved towards the center of Somerville Downtown. The place is bigger and can accommodate more tables. My husband and I went there recently and they were Covid restriction friendly where tables were spread apart. My go to is the Yummy Yummy roll with 3-4 pieces of salmon sashimi. Fish is always very fresh. Will continue to go here for great sushi!

Stopped in midweek for the lunch special. All 3 rolls (salmon avocado, tuna avocado, eel cucumber) tasted fresh, and the portion size was good for the price. Ordered online and got our food to-go.

Went there with my 10 year old daughter two weeks ago to cap off our shopping date. She loved it so much that she wanted to write the review. Here goes…

Sushi Yokohama is a great restaurant. The food tastes incredible. We especially liked the sushi tiramisu. It had an addicting mango sauce and crunchy spicy tuna. We couldn’t get enough of it! If you are going to eat sushi, you should definitely go to Sushi Yokohama. The gyoza was also perfectly crispy and the meat inside was so flavorful. The shrimp tempura is fried with the perfect amount of crunch and the perfect amount of shrimp. Also had some sashimi and the quality of the salmon is amazing. Best of all, the people gave us good service and made us feel most welcome. Overall the experience is toppest of topnotch. There wasn’t one thing we didn’t like! Everything was stupendously scrumptious.

This is my favorite restaurant in town. The sushi is very good, reasonably priced, and the staff are all so nice too. Highly recommend!

For our main course we had the 2 speciality rolls..
Yummy yummy rolls(so good with the sauce and green peppers) and the house speciality roll which was good not great.

We also had 2 regular rolls.

The presentation was really awesome and prices were good.

Food was amazing - some of the best sushi I've had in the area. Service was fantastic. Can't wait to go back.

I consistently get sushi here because of all the sushi places in Somerville, this place has the best value. Some places overuse rice to compensate for less fish and this place is not one of them. Very fair portions and great selection of rolls.

They've been good about providing hand sanitizer during cash and card hand off. No outdoor seating but there is takeout. Staff wear masks.

Boyfriend and I got this for the first time last night! We did do a pick-up to go order because it was a little late. But the order was done quickly, the pick up was seamless and the food was AMAZING. Definitely our new favorite sushi place. Excellent!

we always order the lockers boat and its one of the cheapest in the area but the quality is amazing!! the miso soup is also delicious. it really is good food. also every time we ordered, the staff were nice!

It was a nice little place with very good sushi. Its definitely on the cheaper side, but more than quality fish. Nice setting inside, kind of busy. Service wasnt too great but you go there for the food! Awesome sushi spot

Always a great experience. Affordable. Appropriately priced. When you want sushi and you’re in this area this is the best place to go. They’ve got the basics at great price points and they also can do it up for the ridiculously indulgent rolls. Look for the special rolls written on the side walls. Service is perfunctory and friendly. Exactly what We want. We don’t buy into the paying for the experience bs. We want good clean food and just friendly human beings. The fried rice is just what we want it to be in a sushi joint. Steak is cooked perfectly which is always a surprise in a sushi joint. The rolls are the PERFECT size!!! When you buy a roll you want it to be full enough to have a good bite to it... yet larger rolls that are RIDICULOUSLY marked up in other places don’t enable you to enjoy a variety of flavors and textures at an affordable price. This place has so far delivered consistently good food at a great price point. For something extra yummy try the Kani salads. Ask for a spicy mango kani salad with your meal or take out and you won’t be disappointed.
