Art of a different perspective and forms. Unique, complex, yet simple. Rubi and John are welcoming and nice with a sense of humor. We did not know it was a by appointment only museum, and they welcomed us with hospitality. Personally, I believe the true art here are the hosts. Go experience it!

I’d never visited a house-museum in my life before I went to Norwood Museum. I could had never imagined that someone could turn garbage into art. A really creative art. John and his wife Ruby not only gave us a magnificent tour around their house, but also shared anecdotes from their lives and trips. Norwood Museum goes beyond the innovation and revolution of modern art. Thank you John and Ruby for having opened the doors of your home and heart to two visitors who not only left with a new idea of what good art can inspire, but also what love can create within a home.

John Norwood is more than a talented artist, he is a thoughtful and charming man who has had some wonderful and heartbreaking experiences in his life. I was fortunate to visit the museum before the fire of 2009 destroyed a lot of his work. There are no words to describe the type of art that John Norwood creates and how it all has meaning. Whether you have little interest in art or are an art scholar, you will surely find something that will make you think differently and feel differently...in a profoundly good way. When I visit College Point, the Norwood Museum is something I always look forward to seeing.

Creative use of everyday objects. Mr. Norwood says he almost throws nothing away, instead he will accumulate enough to create art. It is apparent that he smokes and drinks a lot when you see some of his artwork! He has been creating art for a long time and a lot of credit to his lovely wife who puts up with it and supports it. I was only able to observe the art at his home, but I understand that he has another location with more of his art.

Amazing collection of modern art in a home based museum. From trash to treasures. Meet the talented artist John....and his charming wife Ruby who will guide you through their most unusual house where you will see what John has created from rescued trash and turned into unusual and exciting modern sculptures and art... You will be amazed at the results. Contact them to schedule a tour of their fascinating home overlooking the waterways of LaGuardia airport. Delightful experience, would welcome a return trip. Regine and Joy....

I just saw the story on CBS This Morning and I will put the Norwood Museum on my bucket list of must see unique art!! The Norwoods were candid, funny and charming in the interview. Can't wait to make my way there in my travels ✌👍

I love off-beat and unique and the a little bit hard to find/get to. This was all of that. Add to it how warm, friendly and interesting the artist and his family were.

This is one wild place. The artist is (don't let him fool you ) a skilled and trained artist. The art you will see here is compilations of stuff - there is no waste in his house.

A favorite medium seems to be cigarette butts (which he alllllmost apologizes for). You will also see booze bottles, egg cartons, scraps of wood, coffee cups and lids.... This is not JUNK however.

Of particular interest to me was a piece in his living room called (something like) tictactoe of Aids. Also a medicine cabinet. Of course some of his busts are just fun. my favorite was probably the "discoball/wreath/hive" in silver butts.

Make the call, make the trip!
