I adopted my sweet girl Mabel (formerly Maple) from here. She is the best pup in the whole wide world and I can’t imagine life without her! Thank you OCAS for giving me my best friend!! Adopt don’t shop!

They are absolutely the best.
Chandler,Officer Bayless, and Melissa go above and beyond for the community. I can't thank them enough. While hospitalized, they took excellent care of my service animal.

We adopted our cat (previously known as Queso) around 6-7 months ago. He was a shy little kitten but really came out of his shell. We had a pretty good experience and the staff members really helped us and answered all our questions during the meet and greet. Looking forward to possibly adopting another from here in the future!

I have the most wonderful brother and sister cats! I have also been fortunate enough to have the shelter help me with feral cats, at no charge. Please look at this wonderful organization before purchasing an expensive animal! You will never be sorry

i cannot say enough nice things about these people. i adopted my kitten Buttercup (Bea now lol) from them about a week and a half ago. they helped me months before talk through my plan for introducing her to our other cat, what age would best fit our household, giving me detailed info of the cats background to see if they’d enjoy living with other cats/people. these employees truly take the time to get to know and love these animals and do their best to send you home with your best friend. i really can’t even explain how thankful i am for the time the staff took to just talk to me about becoming a pet owner and everything. here’s some pics of Bea all settled in

I love this animal shelter with all of my heart! This is one of the best shelters in the state of North Carolina, with a very high adoption rate! The animals here are well taken care of loved by everyone. If you are looking to get a pet, forget the pet store and come here!! If they don't have a pup or kitty that you're looking for just wait because they have new animals everyday. Inexpensive adoption fees for what they do for the animals.

My wife and I stopped there for the first time. We were happy to hear that they would except the many moving blankets we had after moving into the area. The receptionist was very nice and welcomed us to walk through the cats and into the dog area. We did, and found it to be very clean and as comfortable as a shelter could get. There were many “get acquainted “ rooms, 2 volunteers playing with the cats and an other volunteer taking a dog out for a walk. We asked about volunteering and the receptionist said that they always need volunteers. I was also glad to see that the shelter was not over crowded.

I adopted Veronica (now is Mia) five years ago after visiting here every day for a week. I checked many adult cats and kittens, and Mia was the most friendly cat to me. The shelter was very clean, and had rooms for you to meet with cats one by one. Thanks for the staffs’ patience and help! Mia is doing great and is the best gift of my life. If I want a second cat I will definitely visit again!

I adopted a cat from OCAS. Super helpful staff and just an absolutely wonderful selection of pets looking for their forever homes. This buddy is my best friend (who wakes me up every morning with his loving head nudges) and he's truly changed my life for the better. This shelter helped make it possible and I thank them for their priceless contribution to Orange County.

I adopted ten-year-old Suki (formerly known as Nina) yesterday and she’s already settling in wonderfully. OCAS clearly took great care of her while she was at the shelter. When I went to meet her, she was in a cozy little room and was happy and healthy. They gave me comprehensive advice on what to feed her, and even gave me a carrier from donations to bring her home in. Thank you to the shelter and to her former family for providing me with such a special little friend!

We adopted 2 kittens. The process was seamless and uplifting. We spent about an hour meeting all the cats, spending time in the kitten rooms, discussing who'd be the best fit for our family. When we made our decision we were out the door in about 30min.
One of the kittens came home with us that day, the other stayed through the weekend and was neutered on Monday, picked up on Tuesday.
The space is clean, the staff is friendly and helpful. Adopting in August we got the 2 for 1 'Back to School' pricing. The total cost for the 2 was under $150--covers all their shots, sterilization, licensing, microchip, etc.

Even better--Clear the Shelter is happening end of this week and all fees will be waived if you're looking for a new forever friend!

We intend to visit again in a few months when we're ready for a dog friend.

I have never adopted a pet from here, but have rescued 2 baby kittens and handed them over to them. As soon as I called, the man at the front desk was so polite, and immediately told me, to bring them in that they will take in any stray cats. The mama was no where to be found. When I arrived and took the babies in, he was super helpful and held them for me to do paper work and then took them to be cared for. Such an amazing experience.

I adopted a cat (tuxedo named Andy) from OCAS in 2017 and a dog (Catahoula/pit mix named Nova) in 2019. Both are forever part of my family and I can't imagine life without them. The staff was very helpful, especially when I was adopting my dog as I had concerns about allergies. One of the volunteers really took the time to let me interact with the dog and make sure she was right for me. The shelter is clean and well-maintained, and I would not hesitate to adopt from them again!

I had a great experience with this shelter. It impressed me how much attention the caretaker I worked with paid attention to the cats' temperaments, and I felt I could trust his feedback. (Easy to see that his advice was gold, and the cat we adopted will be a perfect match for us and it seems us for him!) The staff generously allowed me a couple days to pick up supplies and a carrier to bring home our fluffy new family member. They had his paperwork all ready to go when I came back for him, too. Would adopt from here again! Thanks everyone!

I got a cat from here 5 years ago, Chloé, a beautiful grey tabby. Unfortunately, I had to return her to the shelter after I had knee surgery. The guy who helped me with the return (Tom?) was so nice. He explained that they had quite a few older cats (she was 2). So I felt ok about leaving her there. She found a new home with a family, which made me happy, as I felt she would do great with children.

I adopted my soul dog from this shelter; completely on a whim. As a stressed medical student, I went to find some reprieve with animals and decided a day at the shelter seemed like a wonderful retreat from medicine. At the time, I was completely ignorant to bully breeds and previously had a fear of them due to the social stigma. Then I met my little girl. The only ferocious aspect I could see as I peered at her through the tempered glass was her tail—the force at which she was wagging nearly propelled her into flight. “That one! I want to pet that one!” I waited nervously in the meeting room for her to be brought to me. I was not an “animal” person- though I wanted to be. No dog nor cat had previously just gravitated towards my presence and recognized me as something friendly or desirable. And then she came in. A large grey bowling ball bounding towards my lap, immediately licking off any reservations I had about the breed. Her warm embrace felt like rays of sunshine on a fresh spring morning as she attempted to pile her 54lb body entirely onto mine. It was the same feeling you get when you see your best friend for the first time after being separated for a long period. She knew I was hers, I just didn’t know she was mine—yet.

I am a meticulous, scrupulous, and carefully weigh the pros and cons of every decision I make kind of person. Not this time. This decision was purely weighed by my heart and was immediate. I knew she was meant to be my dog from that moment onward, and she remains to this day the love of my life.

I appreciate the excellent service and help with a stray cat that I received from everyone I had contact with at the Shelter. It was such a positive experience and great interactions with wonderful, caring people.

Amazing place. We have adopted two kittens from them, one of which we initially started as foster parents for! They’re so helpful and communicative- especially because both of our cats were adopted during COVID, and they’ve both had vet services, supplies, etc, all provided & helpful and continuous communication. Love them. Adopt don’t shop!
