This is a little different than I expected. The house is old (1860's) which is a plus. Our bed was comfortable. The soap they use for laundry is plant based, which is unusual for me but maybe not for others. The food prepared seems very natural or healthy. The oatmeal was great. The setting is rural and picturesque and pleasant but not very far away from town (maybe a mile??) And yes, it snowed.

Came to this lovely Inn for a retreat this past weekend. The venue is quaint and cozy. The hosts are absolutely incredible, providing delicious food and excellent service with love. The backyard is a magical wonderland with a beautiful inviting landscape, tall trees, the sounds of trickling water through the pond and trails to an amazing hike into nature. The room was comfortable and felt like home. Thank you Swanson Inn!

I truly could not give higher praise for the Swanson Inn, from check-in to check-out. Tim and Rick's communication and responsiveness throughout our stay could not have made it any smoother. Not to mention, the comforters on the beds were insanely comfortable and the breakfast in the morning was more than I ever could have imagined--homemade muffins, local yogurt, homemade specialty items (like eggs to order and quiche). The outdoor space is also a fantastic to enjoy nature. Overall, a fantastic way to enjoy Vermont, and I will definitely be back!

This was a wonderful stay!

Beautiful, historic home in a great location, less than a mile from Route 100, but quiet and with a thoroughly rural feel. It was well-maintained and immaculately clean. The bed was comfortable, and we had one of the best nights of sleep of our trip.

Tim, our host, was very pleasant and helpful, and has a warm and enjoyable personality. He has through-hiked the Long Trail, and had excellent recommendations for local hikes.

The breakfast was delicious. We did not order any pies, but based on the reviews and how delicious the breakfast was, we wish we had!

If we pass through the Mad River Valley again, we will definitely try to book a room here again.

Great experience checking in and checking out! Perfectly located in charming village. Went canoeing in Blueberry lake, went to farmers market in Waitesfield, took a day trip to Burlington for an incredible bike ride around lake Champlain. Family loved it. Autumn must be unbeleivable. Food was great. one day i had delicous pancakes with blueberries and maple syrup and the next day....i kid you not, south Indian dosa! The innkeepers were great and accomodating. Room was clean. Grounds were clean. moments to the village. thank you! Looking forward to ski season too!

A really proper bed and breakfast, no need for an airbnb as long as we have inns like this! Very pretty area even through a poor January warm spell. Jack Dana room was perfectly clean and charming and the old skeleton room key/locks are cherry on top. Breakfast and desserts delicious. Lovely stay when passing through!

I absolutely love the Swanson Inn and I cannot say enough good things about it! Tim and Rick are the most welcoming and attentive hosts. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Tim and Rick cater to all guests but my experience as a thru-hiker was above and beyond anything I have experienced along the AT and LT.

The dinner and breakfast is fantastic and are included as well as laundry and shuttle service. The Inn itself is large, historic, very clean and delightfully relaxing. There are many common areas for sitting, eating, playing games and listening to music via their Alexa speaker system. Each room has a bathroom, fan, AC, Wi-Fi and streaming service. They sell beer, cider and wine. They have a hiker box and hold packages. The property is wonderfully peaceful and has many private sitting areas to enjoy the natural setting. I almost forgot to mention the PIE on weekends!!!!!!! It’s amazing!!!!

Being hikers themselves, Tim and Rick know what hikers need. If you are looking for a place to stop, dry out and rest you couldn’t find a better place!

We very much enjoy Rick and Tim's warm hospitality with their eclectic sensibilities and good taste. It's a always a pleasure, and it really makes for a novel excursion, to head over to the Swanson Inn on a Sunday afternoon - whether part of a broader itinerary, or just as a pleasant destination in and of itself - for a delicious slice of freshly baked pie with coffee or tea (or hot chocolate). There are often agreeable social exchanges on offer with an unpredictable mix of locals, guests of the inn and tourists while one necessarily consumes one of the tasty confections on the menu that day. Shake it up some weekend and drop in when their sign's out announcing pie is available - but don't get there too late if you want the best selection since they often sell out!

The inn has a lot of charm and history just like the rest of Vermont. The rooms and bathrooms are very clean and spacious. Our bed was very comfortable, and we had plenty of fresh linens throughout our weekend stay.
The best perk of your stay with them will definitely be the breakfast and pies. Tim will not let you start your day without a hardy meal and accommodates to any allergies/food restrictions. We strongly suggest you save some room for Tim’s scrumptious pies. We tried the cherry pie and chocolate cream pie and highly recommend both.
The location was perfect and central to Sugarbush mountain, restaurants, Lawson’s Brewery, and grocery stores. Very convenient if you’re coming up to the area for winter sports at Mad River and Sugarbush.
Last but not least, Rick and Tim are wonderful hosts! They followed all state Covid protocols prior to our arrival and during our stay. They wore masks and socially distanced whenever possible.
We can’t wait to stay at the inn again, but in the meantime we will be making the drive from MA for more pies.

Rick and Tim are the best! They are so gracious and inviting. We loved every minute of our stay at the Swanson inn, from our late night check in where Tim met us and showed us to our room, to the day we checked out after a delicious breakfast of home made biscuits and gravy (and some amazing yogurt!). The rooms are very quaint and super clean. The bed was awesome! I got some of the best sleep this year! We overslept breakfast service, but Tim made sure we each got a slice of quiche to-go. This was our first B&B experience, and we loved it. Rick even hung out with us and chatted about the local economy and how things are in Vermont. You won't get that at a chain hotel! The grounds are beautiful, there is a nice pond to sit and enjoy a beer or some of their wonderful pie! There is even a hiking trail within steps of the Swanson. We will definitely stay here again. Thanks Rick & Tim

The breakfasts were wonderful. The owners do a great job of hosting. If you want a B&B in a smaller town or quieter area, this is a great place to stay. An easy drive from Stowe (about 40 minutes), Waterbury, etc.

My husband and I stayed here for a night after a day of skiing and had a lovely stay. After meeting friends for dinner, we came back to a cozy fire and an offer of cookies! Our room was clean and comfy. The breakfast in the morning was a highlight for us, great coffee, a wonderful blueberry scone, yogurt with locally made granola, and some stellar biscuits with sausage gravy (I’m southern, I know my gravy and this was top notch). Our only complaint was that we couldn’t stay longer! Lovely hosts at a beautiful inn.

I was a section hiker, meeting up with my friend on the Long Trail. We both stayed at the Swanson Inn the night before heading out. The two owners were exceptionally nice, amazing cooks, and incredibly generous with transportation to and from the trail. These two guys are the type of people that give Vermonters their amazing, friendly, hospitable, knowledgeable reputation.

As far as the Inn itself, the stay was marvelous, the amenities were perfect (home cooked delicious meals, lots of comfy common rooms, all the info you could want about local attractions, and well-furnished rooms), and I would give this place six stars if I could.

A delightful place just 3+ miles down from Sugarbush and Mad River Glen. We were greeted in the parking lot even though it was 14 degrees. Room was charming and free from tech (yes, wifi and streaming TV are available). Tim makes a mean breakfast (a ham and cheese strata and blueberry pancakes when we were there) and Tim and Matt go overboard to make you feel welcome at every turn. There's tea (in a Tardis pot, which like the inn is bigger on the inside) and muffins and snickerdoodles. When we got takeout from a local place, Tim set the table for us to eat when we returned. We can't imagine nicer people or a better place to stay.

I stopped by to get a cherry pie on Sunday, and it was fantastic! Tart, deliciously flaky crust--my family couldn't stop eating it! We plan to keep ordering Sunday pies. Also enjoyed meeting Rick and had a lovely chat from 6 feet away. Looking forward to when we can come enjoy pie and coffee at the inn!

This was a wonderful place to stay, I was offered rides to/from trailhead/town, they have a hiker box, WiFi, they did my laundry for me, made us a delicious dinner and breakfast (included) and beer for purchase. The house and my room were beautiful, comfortable, rustic and wonderfully decorated (no tv). I loved seeing all of the pictures and articles about the Long trail even their own personal pictures from the trail. They genuinely care about hikers because they hiked the Long Trail themselves and it's because of the kindness and hospitality of people like this that I was able to make it to Canada! Thank you!

We had an amazing time in this beautiful B&B. Tim is a skilled cook and every meal we had was perfect. Every Sunday afternoons they sell pies and set up tea tables outside. It’s such a gorgeous and peaceful view. Pies are a must try for sure.

Rick and Tim were such amazing hosts! The room was clean and cozy , and ending the day by the fireplace was perfect ! Delicious breakfast each morning and homemade baked good ( yum for blueberry scones )! 10 min from the mountain and a few from all restaurants, makes the Inn a perfect location! Would definitely go back !

If you're looking for the perfect B&B in the Waitsfield area, The Swanson Inn is the place to go. Rick and Tim are some of the kindest and most accommodating hosts we've ever stayed with. We were Long Trail hikers, and them being former E2E hikers themselves, they give a great deal to any thru or section hiker passing through Appalachian gap about 10 minutes to the west of their location. The food that Tim prepares is outstanding, and they will make you feel more at home than if you were at home! 10/10 stars if were possible, and we will definitely be back for the perfect weekend get away.

My husband and I visited this sweet, charming inn. The rooms are cozy, clean and comfortable. Each room has its private bathroom.
The inn is located close to areas for people to enjoy Vermont’s many activities (ie. hiking, skiing, snowboarding, skating, fishing or just taking day adventures to surrounding towns).
The owners (Tim and Rick) were simply delightful, knowledgeable, and welcoming!
The food is all prepared by the owner using fresh, local products and is absolutely delicious! DELICIOUS!
We will definitely be returning!
