My husband had surgery here recently. Everyone at the hospital were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Our experience with the surgical and hospital staff was exceptional. (Especially Nicole, Brendan and Cory!) Thank you for the great care he received. We would recommend UPMC Shadyside to everyone.

Came to this ER From 2 hours away because I have been sick for months. The young woman Dr was the nicest most educated dr I have seen in years in my home town. I left feeling so relieved that nothing terrible is wrong and the Dr explained that in every single detail so I would leave with peace of mind. I had an EMT do my iv and sugar reading and she was also very kind and knowledgeable! This hospital is busy, yes but in a real emergency I would want these amazing people on my side! Quick efficient and friendly! They put up with so much and these reviews do not give them justice!! Thank you Shadyside ER!!!!!

I just got home today from the hospital. Everyone, from nurses to aides to doctors to dietary was wonderful. I especially want to say that Patrick, my nurse on September 22, 2023, at p294, was superb! I just adored him. He was smart, on the ball, had a great bed side manner. I was very lucky. I had great care the entire time I was in. Thanks to everyone. Highly recommend.

AMAZING! I was in Pittsburg visiting the city for the first time. The day after I arrived, I felt a pain in my lower right abdomen and rushed to the emergency thinking it might be appendicitis, which it was. There could not be enough words to praise the staff at UPMC. Within 10 min of my arrival, I was seen by a nurse (I think Kelly was her name, amazing!). I met with a doctor i the hour. The CT scanner was back up a bit, but the wait wasn't long. In the meantime, I met many folks: nurses, interns, doctors, administration folks... I have to say I have never met such warm, welcoming, and caring folks ever! It gave me a clear idea of how Pittsburg folks are! Once my CT scan came back confirming my appendicitis, I was on the operating table within the hour. I woke up a couple of hours later, ready to go home...or at least my hotel. The staff amazing care and advice on what to do or not after the operation allowed me to enjoy the rest of my stay, almost like nothing happened! (Yes, that does include going to a Steelers game 2 days later!).
So as I heartwarmingly joke: Pittsburg and UPMC staff, you got my heart....and my appendix! Thanks again for everything!

My husband Larry just had his second surgery at Shadyside on 8/7 and we both wanted to relate what a great group of employees we encountered from the ones who helped us find where we needed to be to the surgical staff who provided his care. If we didn't live 5 hours round trip, his ongoing care would be at Shadyside. A BIG thank you to the entire group of employees at this facility. 5 stars is not high enough. We give it a ten!!!

The nurses and doctors did a great job. It was in and out under 1 hour. Nighttime is normally when they get busy. Please be courteous to the staff. I know the wait duration would switch depending on the day and time.

5 stars is not even enough!! The medical team that treated me the day of my surgery were amazing!!! Dr. Daniel Wecht, Gina Shaffer, Denise Hoffman, Brent Cain, my nurse in preoperative prep, I can't recall his name but he was so great! He did tell me his name but I feel so bad I can't recall it. Brittany, my nurse who spent a nice chunk of time with me in recovery, she was fantastic!! Amazing person and a great nurse!!! My medical team on Ward 7!! Emily, you were terrific!! Thank you for being so awesome!!! The rest of the crew that cared for me, I wish I remembered all of your names. I can picture all of you, just a lot of names to recall.
Thank you to all of you!!! Your work is tough at times and you may have had a very busy day the day of my surgery, but I would have never known it. Every one of you deserve so much praise for the amazing work you do day in and day out. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!!

One of the best hospitals in Pittsburgh. As a UPMC facility, the care is excellent. Many options to choose the best doctor for your need. Bright and clean surroundings.

A few years ago, I had a bad experience at this hospital. I was hesitant to return there for care, but due to the fact that it was the closest hospital to the urgent care I was seen at, I gave it another try. My faith has been completely restored in this hospital! While I was really anxious and upset to be there, I received excellent care from start to finish. I thought with nursing shortages and everything else going on in healthcare right now, that this would be the worst visit yet. I expected to be patient and wait for at least four hours or longer to be seen. I was pleasantly surprised with how kind the people working at the front desk and the triage staff were during my visit. Although the waiting room was crowded, they were well organized, courteous, and helped people find places to sit. The best surprise was that my wait time was far less than what I had waited over at the urgent care. Despite being busy, the nurses on my care team were very professional and kept me updated on my care the entire time. They made sure to introduce themselves and let me know what medication I was being given and how it would help my condition. The physician I saw was also very thorough and knew what to do to help me. I was very impressed and appreciate the time that the nurses and physician took to help me.

A++++ care and service!

What a difference a great hospital and staff can make to a somewhat awful situation.

These doctors and staff are on point and here to help you every step of the way.

Everyone including the information desk to security are very helpful and friendly.

Soo glad my dad is in their care.

Thank you Dr. Lee!!

I’m Paul wife, Ann (Annette). This hospital is amazing!!! If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. Everyone there is so kind. I would like to mention a few,
Stacey in radiology. She does my spinal lumbars and I’m not talking just one , right now I get every Monday for chemo injections to my spinal fluid. She is tremendous and you feel so comfortable with her. She gives you that feeling everything will be okay. She definitely knows what she is doing and you can tell she has a lot of compassion for her patients. I’m always so happy when I see she is doing my spinal… ❤
Katelyn RN in ICU. She shines and has this happiness about her that makes me know with her caring for me, I’ll be fine. She answers all my questions and if she doesn’t know the answer she’ll tell me and tell me she’ll find out and let me know. And she always follows through. She is a great ICU nurse!!!! I would give her so many stars if I could. ❤
Than tonight I got to meet another ICU Night nurse Patrick. Wow he is awesome!!! He definitely loves what he is doing because it runs off of him onto his patients. I can feel his concern for me when he comes and takes care of me. I never feel like I’m a bother or an nuisance
around him. He always shows up with a smile and a joy on helping. He’s a great nurse and I would also give him many many stars too. ❤
This hospital surely knows how to pick their workers and nurses. Just the few that I have come in contact with since I was diagnosed with cancer have been so good to me.
Thank you everyone and thank you Shadyside for being a great city hospital to a small town country girl!

I walked in the emergency room Wednesday afternoon and had a short stay until this morning (Saturday). From the moment I walked in the process was fast, easy and safe. Doctors and nurses were very attractive to my care. Lab's and other exams were ordered and done fairly quickly. All the staff explained plan of care on a daily basis even gave me written reports. Food was warm and delicious, they actually have a menu to choose from. Discharge was was fast and I had no issues. It's no wonder this hospital is ranked #2 in the state.

My experience at shadyside was one of the best hospital ER experience ever. Dr scanlon was so kind and caring, he does his profession justice. From the time I walked in door it was a good choice. Registration gentleman paul was nice, the triage nurse Amanda was very caring, the gentleman Paul that took me to my room was so sweet and kind. My nurse Stephanie was totally awesome, very knowledgeable and she cared.

My Husband Frank Pastor was a patient in 4 west ICU for 6 days. He was released this past Sunday to Hospice Care at home. I cannot say enough about the wonderful care he received from the medical staff at your hospital. I've spent some time in the Pittsburgh area hospitals over the years but have never been as pleased as I am with your staff. Olivia our nurse for 3 days was the greatest of all, amazing care and TLC.

My mom is currently at Shadyside Hospital recovering from a pretty rough surgery. Every person we came in contact with was amazing. The nurses were kind, patient and seemed to enjoy their line of work. Even when understaffed, they all treated my mom and her visitors with compassion. Thank you UPMC Shadyside for giving Healthcare workers a good work environment. I couldn't be more grateful 🙏

The security was on top of their job at the front doors. They did assist me with great directions so I could get to my job site to meet up with a trucking specialist to deliver medical refrigerators equipment for their new pharmacy department. The construction crew also assisted us, in most cases that doesn't happen all that often it was well appreciated, without their forklift it would have been a big nightmare getting these 400lbs plus refrigerators off these wooden pallets. We tide up their loading dock for few hours that day.

Last year my husband and I took our daughter to UPMC Shadyside ED. We didn’t know it but she had sepsis. Dr Alanna Peterson saved my daughters life. She and the team working that night jumped into action quickly and with precision.

Recently, we had to go back to the ED. Dr. Alanna remembered our daughter and knew exactly what tests to run.

I’m so thankful for this woman and Having a trauma hospital like UPMC Shadyside right in our own city.
