George's Song Shop

George is a good guy, he likes Soul and definitely has one. This business has been around for 90+ years. Really nice collection of both old and some new records that makes the trip up from Pittsburgh worth it. Also for sale are original and new cassettes from when it was released. Some cassettes still have their wrappers on them. Ample amount of 45s to keep you busy. Store closes at 4pm so definitely plan for a Saturday visit, or make the most of it during a museum or incline visit. George also recommends dining next door at Gallina's, and I do too. Good people all around.

A cool store with a unique vibe. The owner was curious as to what I was doing there, given that I don’t need vinyl records nor CDs , but I was really just curious about these old albums, ads, etc.

If you are in the Johnstown, Pennsylvania area and are a music fan, then George's Song Shop is a the place for you. This is America's oldest record store which opened in the 1930's. Little known fact: George's Song Shop also specializes in hard to find 45s. Take a look at my pictures but know that this is a place that needs to be experienced first hand. Our finds of the day: My son picked up a Queen vinyl album while I found an older, hard to find, Johnny Cash vinyl album as well as his last album on CD. Great experience to share with my son who is a musician!

Finally made it to George's Record Shop! WOW! Just about anything you could want is here! Great guy and very friendly, massive amounts of records! I'll definitely be back soon!

Great place to just come and browse music for hours. Once you get the hang of the organization it's a breeze to search for what you want. Plus George is outstanding when it comes to talking about vinyl.

John has the best selection and will work to find whatever you need. It's America's oldest record shop for goodness sake! I always find something here when visiting Johnstown and it's a must on every trip. Last time I picked up a local artist's vinyl on John's recommendation and I love that the shop supports that.

Really great place! I love getting records and CDs here from time to time. The owner is the nicest guy and is really quick with finding anything he has that you ask for! I love looking through the huge selection, and his help makes it so much easier to find stuff

Mr. George is so helpful but not pushy so it is very relaxed browsing. If you're not sure about the condition of the vinyl, he will play it for you. Great service. He has an amazing selection. I 100% recommend shopping there.

Excellent monster assortment of vinyl lps. Crates of lps all over. Spent a few hours with my daughter thumbing through classics. Been going here since I was a kid. Glad it's still open!

Great vinyl record shop. Owner is extremely helpful in finding your desired artist/record. Has tons on vinyl. Artists and well represented. Past record day albums available. Well worth the visit. You will not be disappointed.

Great little store and George is so helpful, so great to have a record store reminds me of being a kid and spending all my allowance and grass cutting money crazy thing is when I was a kid it was cassettes and cd’s now I am into vinyl if he don’t have it he will do his best to get it for you. Love supporting local small businesses as well go there have a look highly recommended

Good selection. Not picked over. Average prices. I found some decent more obscure 80's punk rock that you would never be able to find at a shop in Pittsburgh because it would be gone in a minute. Prices were comparable to the lower end on Discogs, but eliminate the shipping costs, the wait, and the fact that you're helping keep a business in downtown Johnstown going. It's a no brainer. If you're in the area, stop in.

John George has owned and operated this shop for decades. If you are into vinyl -- 33s, 45s -- this is simply the best place around. John will lend his expertise, too, either if you're just curious or someone who is searching out a rarity.

Only a complete imbecile would prefer to shop at Barnes and Noble! George's is the oldest record store in the country for a reason, they're the best.
