David did such an amazing job on my hair. I have so much hair and I wanted something pretty extreme and David made sure it was done exactly the way I wanted and to the color I wanted. David was super thorough and even did a test beforehand to make sure it would turn out as we hoped. This place is always my go-to whenever I need an extravagant change, or even just a trim. All stylists here are also super fun and nice! Thank you!!

Ignacio and David both do beautiful, high quality hair coloring. I’ve been there for two very different styles. Both are highly skilled in hair cutting techniques. They took the time to try to understand what I was looking for. You get your hair done plus a fun movie or TV show with side commentaries. What more could you ask for?

If you are LGBTQ this is a great experience. I have never felt so welcome at a salon. Today was my first cut there. The original stylist I scheduled with was ill, but they went above and beyond to squeeze me in same day. Everyone extremely friendly. Great cut by Ignacio, and Sheri (please forgive me if I misspelled your name) provided 5 star service. Can't wait to be a regular.

Ignacio was wonderful, he listened to how I wanted to do a cut, and styled my hair even better than what I was hoping for. Plus he gave me such great advice on how to take care of my hair properly and gave suggestions on some specific products, he is very knowledgeable, kind, and fun. Also, I was able to get an appointment over the phone a day before I went, they seemed accommodating and professional, the vibe in general was nice and relaxed.

Ignacio Ayala is truly a gifted colorist and stylist. I am in Chicago for a month and came in mainly to have my roots done. He matched the color perfectly and also blended in the lighter ends. My hair is not easy to cut but he gave me a very flattering trim and style that made me look ten years younger. I am only disappointed that I don’t live in Chicago so I can’t see him every month. I’ll be back for sure next time.

UDATE: I saw David again today. He really knows his stuff and as for his manner--he's so gentle and kind. He'll work with you to find out what you want and what works best for you. Great!

I was thrilled to find a hairstyling salon that's only a few minutes' walk from my home. My appointment was set with David, and I have just came back from the salon.

David was great. He listened to what I was looking for, washed my hair, listened again (I had to make sure!), and set to cutting my hair. He really took his time and really cared. The result is, well, perfect. Maybe next time I'll go for something a little more daring, but for now I love my traditional haircut, which, in lesser hands, would be easy to flub. I will most certainly return and ask for David!

I’m new to the area and wanted to try a new salon. Ignacio listened to what I had in mind and provided wonderful insight to improve it. His attention to detail and care about his work is a refreshing experience. With the welcoming attitude and easy banter I look forward to returning for my future haircuts!

Every time I come here I have an amazing experience. The stylists take time to make sure they give you the look you are going for, and there is a very fun, welcoming environment every time I come in.

Had a haircut appointment with David. He is awesome, he cut my hair and made it look wonderful and feel so much better. He is also very easy to talk to! Great haircut experience :)

Listen, this is long overdue. I’ve been coming to this salon since it opened last year and I could not be more grateful for Ignacio. More than anything, he’s a kind, friendly person, who takes great care to create an atmosphere of warmth in the salon.

I live very close and love that he will always wave to me through the front window when I pass by with my dog. At this point, he’s more than just a neighbor!

He has cut and dyed my hair so many wild color combinations at this point, and I always trust his suggestions and ideas. I always leave feeling like more of my authentic self. He’s quick, thorough, and highly skilled.

I got exactly what I was hoping for, Ignacio was so kind and easy to talk to, and it was generally just a lovely environment! Ignacio gave great advice about how to best go for the style I wanted with from the hair that I had, and it ended up looking great. Everyone was so sweet and I love my new hair.

David was great and I absolutely love my haircut! I will definitely be coming back again!

I have been going to the same hairstylist for over a decade. I always walk out of the salon feeling good with the haircut, color and style. He cares for all of his clients and is honest in recommending what would look on you and what would not. Fun to be with and talk to and the prices are reasonable. I hope to continue going to this salon for another one or two decades more.

I was excited when Illussion of Beauty opened as Edgewater needed a good salon. I usually get my hair done downtown. I was thrilled and hooked after my first visit. Ignacio is a master of cuts & blowouts. The salon has only been open a few months and I've been there multiple times, each visit feeling absolutely beautiful. My neighbor goes to Ignacio and had the most gorgeous hair color, which is his specialty. I highly recommend Illussion of Beauty. Gorgeous hair at reasonable prices!!

I had not had my hair done since June 2021. My hair was in bad shape. Blonde long thin hair can be difficult to get right, but let me tell you I am beyond happy and so thankful for the time and care taken to get my hair looking professional, healthy, and natural.
