I worked for Gold Cross in the early to mid/late 1990's. I first worked as an EMT-INTERMEDIATE.I worked the streets of the entire Salt Lake Valley and the entire Wasatch Front on special occasions. I then got the Opportunity to attend Paramedic School at Weber State University. It took 6 months to become a Paramedic and my only contention was that Gold Cross didn't pay their employees during that time like the Fire Departments did.. Gold Cross paid for the training but the returning Paramedic "owed" the company 2 years of Paramedic employment. Throughout my employment there, I worked with and met some of the finest people I have ever met even to present day in the form of partners I worked with on our 24 hr shifts from months to years in many cases. We had fun for the most part because no 2 calls were the same and it offered variety and always something new. I am proud of the time I spent there and the many lives I assisted in saving and the people I was able to meet (patients, partners, fire personnel whom we spent a great deal of time with, hospital staff and others). The family that owns it are really not the greatest individuals in my own opinion and out of courtesy, I wont say anything more about the Moffitt family. I left the company on my own terms in a dispute over a promised emergency family event that I informed the owners of the company well in advance and was "assured" we would work something out to give me the time to deal with this personal family event and they didn't honor my request so I quit.. Anyway, Gold Cross is a company that has been in existence since 1968 and does deserve some consideration in my opinion and please be respectful to the EMT's and Paramedics and other lower ancillary staff as they are doing a difficult job and most of them only have your best health and safety in mind. In closing, I consider this job I had there as one of my all-time favorites for the facts stated above. My partners and I tried to stay away from upper management and just behaved. I know the costs of their services are controversial and I agree with many of the statements made and I know why some of those fees are so high as people have stated but that's for another discussion at a different time. Thanks for your time and everyone stay safe out there.

A great company to work for; the coworkers there are very friendly and professional; they will take you under their wing and make sure that you’re okay after a hard call. I’ve never had any bad interactions with the company and I enjoy working there. Often times people complain about how expensive it is; but it is an ambulance and everyone knows ambulances are expensive, which is why the EMT’s give you a choice of going by your own vehicle if you are well enough to do it yourself.

Ive worked here for a few months now and I can say this is honestly the best job I’ve had. I work with some amazing EMT’s and Medics. They really care for each other and look out for one another. They care about the people they take care of. They are some of the hardest working people. I am so thankful to know so many amazing people. I’m in the process of getting my EMT. I had to take the course online due to Covid and I’ve had so many people offer to help with skills and the training department has let me come in and practice skills and get CPR certified.

JUST READ THIS REVEIW AND SAVE TIME.

1. There are either 5 star or 1 star reviews here for Gold Cross through Google.
2. The 5 star reviews are from people that understand Gold Cross responders do their job and transport when someone's health or safety is at risk.
3. The 1 star reviews are either from people complaining about finances or letting off steam with zero helpfulness in their reviews. A ride in ANY ambulance is expensive btw. You can also refuse transport after they arrive...
4. Gold Cross does their job. Plain and simple. They have great staff and it's a great company to work for.

I used to work for Gold Cross and am commenting only to address the Ambulance cost people have been writing about.

Ambulance Fees are established by the State in this case of Utah, if you wish to know the fees search Utah Ambulance Rates, so it wouldn't matter which Ambulance service in the state that you used, by law they all charge the same.

I worked for Gold Cross many years ago but the law as far as Ambulance Rates goes has remained the same, so I hope that helps explain and while I was their I was great and was also the trainer so the five stars are for me and the other men and women who saved your lives countless times.

This company would suck the blood out of your veins if they thought they could get away with it. Child had a snowboarding accident and someone decided he needed to be transported by ambulance (BTW, which was totally unnecessary).

Bill was $1500, and was really just a gloried taxi ride. Gold Cross wouldn't budge, offered a measly 10% discount! Greedy. Said "fairs are regulated by state law".

I would walk before I ever used this company again. STAY AWAY!

1. There are either 5 star or 1 star reviews here for Gold Cross through Google.
2. The 5 star reviews are from people that work for Gold Cross Ambulance. The likes on those reviews are also from people who work at Gold Cross Ambulance.
3. The 1 star reviews are from people who have had to use this service. You cannot refuse the ride if you are being transported from one hospital to another because of a mental health reason. You also can't refuse the service if you are severely injured and knocked unconscious from a car accident.
4. Gold Cross does their job. Plain and simple. Then they bill you thousands of dollars for a short ride and constantly send you threatening letters and make your bill higher each month to punish you.

Worst billing experience I have ever had. If given an option of what ambulance to go through choose a different company. We have been going back and forth with this company for almost a year on our account. We speak to someone new each time that has no idea what is going on with our account. They have said each time they have adjusted our bill and each month we get a statement with the wrong amount and a big service charge that we should not be paying.

If enough of us file formal complaints with the hospitals that use them as a vendor they will open up bids to other ambulance providers. That’s the best way to fight their terrible customer experience.

A year of Back and forth customer service says one thing and you think there’s a resolution and you get a letter that they didn’t update the transaction the next month and it goes to collections after you pay out of pocket.

They also don’t bill insurance correctly.

We should file complaints with the providers they partner with. I will be doing such with inter mountain healthcare.

After working in healthcare for a decade I have never seen a provider that was less organized than gold cross.

Awful customer experience awful organization. I can’t think of anything that wasn’t miserable when dealing with them.

Roughest ride I’ve ever been on. Terrible. I needed ACLS responders do to a heart condition. The girls that came were Basic Life Support only. Bouncy, rough fife from hell.
I don’t think anyone, any insurance, or provider should ride in such a klunker and have to pay their Hollywood prices!!

Why would one of their drivers tell his coworker in front of me and my dad and whoever else was within earshot that “we won’t get paid as much for this because it’s Medicare”?! They were transporting my mom from st. Mark’s to another facility. When she left she was stable, by the time she arrived at the other place she was not doing so well. They do not have compassion for the people they transport. If at all possible find a different company. Your loved one’s life may depend on it.

They keep sending us a bill for transport that is to be paid by insurance. I won't be paying them a dime. When we were transported from the airport to the childrens hospital, the ambulance we were in didn't even have working electricity! Our respiratory therapist had to hand bag our vent dependent infant all the way from the airport to the hospital. Should not be billed for a service that didn't function properly. They also won't do their job and contact insurance. They want the patients family to be the middle man, as if we don't have enough to deal with already. Very poor service. Billing department= 0 stars!
