Book Trader Cafe

This is the perfect place to get a coffee or with a breakfast sandwich. I got the bacon egg and cheese with a hot Chai and wasn’t disappointed. My chai was frothy and my bacon egg and cheese was very delicious and felt like there was though put into the meal. It was very busy the day I went but they still managed to be calm and I didn’t wait any longer than 10 minutes.

Absolutely loved this place. It was very busy and lively and felt really nice sipping coffee in the middle of alot of books. Kind of a library with not so much of silence 😄... Students studying, working around...felt really nice.. they have a few vegetarian options which are good!

Atmosphere is great. Coffee is standard - fast and priced fairly. The baristas are friendly and efficient. The day-old bagels are a great deal.

This is our go-to place to buy and donate used books. Dave is often around and super nice.

What a great coffee shop in New Haven! My friends and I worked here for a couple of hours on homework and the atmosphere was so calming yet productive. All the food and drinks we got were amazing and were good prices as well. Would definitely recommend checking out for anyone visiting New Haven!

Beautiful location, amazing food (I recommend the tempesto extra vinaigrette to everyone), and I can’t say how wonderful the owner is. I’ve known them for years and they put care into every aspect of their business. A true gem to New Haven

Cute and affordable coffee and food kiosk with a very wide selection of books. My iced coffee was only 2.50. Perfect to spend an afternoon studying or meeting friends and look forward to trying food on my next visit.

Cute as HECK coffee shop in downtown New Haven with books galore. Great spot to meet a friend or just chill. Books are literally everywhere and it makes for such a cozy feel!! Got a matcha too and it was yummy

One of my favorite places in new haven. Part coffee shop, part used book store, part (human) greenhouse. There's no type of room I like more than one that has windows for walls, so I might be partial to this building. The staff is really nice, they have hundreds and hundreds of books on everything- I love to come in and browse before working. Food is pretty good, good variety of options and can fit your dietary needs.

The vegan sandwich, To Kale a Mockingbird, was recommended by someone working there and it was out of this world. You can taste the attention paid to every detail. And, there's a lot of fabulous books to check out! Shout out to the wonderful people working there!

When I say I LOVE this place, I really do mean it. To start off, the staff working there are passionate and have a very positive vibe. Always smiling and welcoming, and as I started coming here more often, I felt very welcomed by their energy. They say things like "appreciate you" and as someone that has difficulty with self worth, I can say that means a lot to me. Their foods are DELICIOUS, they serve baked goods such as brownies, cookies, and muffins (love the Blueberry muffin!). They also serve fresh fruit and yogurt. I haven't tried it yet but I am aware that they serve salads, soups, and BLT sandwiches. I am also aware that they have vegan options, for both drinks and foods. They serve coffee and tea with lots of options. The seating is comfortable, although I wouldn't say very spacious but personally that's not a worry of mine because they have outdoor seating as well if you're coming over with more than three people. I go there by myself and sit at the window seats and read my book. Oh yes, before I forget I do stay here to read my books for HOURS, and they never complain or ask me to leave. They also do sell books, which is usually $4.95 for most books that I have checked out. I have bought a book with an original price of $25 and ended up buying it for $4.95. The books are well taken care of. Their place is clean, and the staff wipe the tables every hour or so. I just love this place so much, gives me the time and place to do my thing while everyone else does their own. This place is definitely my safe space❤

Very cute little spot, all the sandwiches are names of books. They have some great vegetarian options and really good coffee. Plus the books! so many books. If your a book lover like me, youll adore this place

Awesome little hideaway for a true and unique New England Cafe and book store, wrapped into one. We hung out for almost an hour, looking at books and grabbing food before heading back to Yale's medical campus. Convenient and close by!

The Book Trader Café is beautiful, cozy, and it has shelves lined with so many books! There is plenty of selection, and a decent amount of indoor and outdoor seating! The staff is polite & courteous, there are so many drink options, and everything else is what one would expect for a good quality café!

This is a popular venue, so indoor seating is limited on the weekends and there's usually a line due to popularity, so prepare accordingly!

Overall, if you're looking for a cute & cozy atmosphere, and a great place to have a chat or get work done, then give this place a try!

This is my favorite coffee shop in New Haven or anywhere for that matter. There is a great atmosphere and you can always find a great book or cd/dvd. The staff is always super friendly and welcoming. My favorite thing about the Book Trader however is the scones you can smell them baking when you walk in, they are huge and delicious. I’d much rather go to the Book Trader than one of the big name places. The staff is much more friendly and you feel more like you know everyone.

Lots of interesting, inexpensive used books. Great coffee and delicious, though somewhat overpriced, food. Excellent atmosphere. And ideal perch from which to observe stressed out exhausted architects get coffee from across the street.
