Workhorse Cafe

This place is unbelievably fantastic. We get so excited every time we walk in. Absolutely our favorite spot in Stratton. Banh mi is superb, the Vermonter is our long time favorite (add the hash brown!!), and the Philly breakfast bowl is a decadent pile of delicious. It’s apparent that effort and time is put into every menu item. Always consistent, friendly and kind staff. An absolute must visit.

Came here expecting good stuff but was blown away by how good everything was. Onion rings did not slide out of the tasty brown breading. The chicken sandwich was full of good sized cuts of chicken but no something you had trouble biting, or that become a giant mess. Fries are salty and fresh. Chicken tenders are not the run of the mill type, but aren't the super fancy ones that no kid on earth would eat. Nice little space in the back with tables to dine in. Great little serve yourself coffee bar. Plenty of drinks to choose from and all of our food came out quicker than expected. The menu offers a ton of vegetarian and vegan items, but there is more than 1 thing for everyone. I told the young lady at the counter that a great review was coming, and this place checks every box with bold ink. I've saved the best part for last, and thats their desserts. Mississippi Mud pie, a chocolate chip cookie cake, the list goes on, and each one of their delicious offerings was so good I found myself scraping whatever I could out of each of the dishes they are served in. Yum! Will def go back, and as often as possible. Prices are fair, the vibe in the place is chill and even the bathrooms look they are tended to regularly throughout the day. Parking can get tricky, but I've never been to a good spot that didn't have this problem. One of the coolers is stocked with frozen dinners to to heat up at home. I'm going to load up on these next time. Try it for yourself if you are in the area! Oh, and markers and plenty of paper for kids to doodle!!

This place is shockingly good. We had the duck poutine, a workhorse sammie (not pictured) and ice cream sandwiches, and they were all perfect. I always have low expectations when it comes to BBQ in the north, so the workhorse sandwich was a huge surprise, as it's extremely good.

The duck poutine is killer. I love that they bread the curds, which allows them to stand up to the gravy and gives them a chicken nugget-like texture. The thinly sliced duck and mushrooms add the perfect amount of fat and umami.

The black cherry ice cream sando was also a pleasant departure from expectations. I was thinking this would be a standard cherry flavored ice cream affair. Nope. It was a brick of ice cream between two rich brownies, and the ice cream had the slightly boozy flavor of a cherry cordial, one of my favorite holiday confections.

This place is a gem. Now I need someone to come along with a hand cart and roll me out if here. So. Full.

Wow! Love this place! Best place I have found in Vermont! I have gone in and had their gigantic breakfast burrito twice! They are the nicest people, great customer service. Went in today and they were busy! Long line but fast friendly service! Today I had the best Philly cheese steak sandwich I have ever had. Add jalapenos of course. I cannot say enough about how great this little spot is. Affordable, delicious, friendly. What more could you want? Feels like you are family when you walk through the doors.

Deserves 50 stars! A must go when visiting southern VT. So sad to be going home today and not having any more of their delish sandwiches!! Coffee so good to, I found a place where they sell it and brought some home! Thanks Emily for your amazing hospitality ❤❤

Great place with amazing food. I've been there several times now and I've never been disappointed. Food is always fantastic. There's a deck off the back with tables that overlooks a stream. They do serve canned beer and other canned alcoholic drinks too if you plan on eating there.

What a gem near the mountains. We ordered the banh mi and the workhorse sandwiches and loved them both equally. Service was quick, but the door is always revolving here. Will gladly come back next time we head to VT.

An absolute must-visit in the area. But use caution: if ordering when hungry, you will end up with way too much food! The bbq pork mac and cheese sandwich AND bowl were both amazing but plenty of food each. The onion rings are fried well and a big enough portion on their own. Chocolate chip cookies, a display full of desserts, all kinds of coffees - everyone can find something here.

Visiting from FL and choose to eat here. Was very happy with the food and very pleasant staff. The burger and veggie wrap was delicious! Great coffee too, which can't be beat! Sat outside under red leaves listening to the running water.

my partner and I randomly stopped here on the way back from a weekend getaway and it was the best food we had all weekend. I HIGHLLYY recommend this spot. I am a bit of a sandwich snob and this place exceeded my expectations. Plenty of room to sit inside as well as deck seating and picnic tables by the river. will be back for sure!

Amazing location, and the food is really tasty. I recommend the baby back ribs, piggy bowl, wings, breakfast burrito, garbage fries, etc.!!! They started serving beer and wine last year and it makes it a fun place to hang out on their large deck that overlooks the Winhall River. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is always great from Workhorse. I plan on using this restaurant for catering a small group of friends for Tough Mudder in June.

I had the burger and it almost didn't fit in my mouth! It was extremely tasty. My sister had the pork grilled cheese and that was fantastic as well.

Every place in the area seems to offer a wide range of foods.

This was one of the more reliable places we were able to find near Stratton.

There are only three 'Tables', the place is more a take out location. Coffee was good and local.
The staff was very helpful, and pleasant to deal with.

Probably the best breakfast sandwich I ever had. I got the maple syrup, egg, cheese and bacon sandwich with a hash brown on it and it did not disappoint! Will certainly be going back. A bit pricey but not unusual for the Stratton area and definitely worth it.

Solid local restaurant, food is very good. Try the pot stickers and make sure to go out on the deck for the great view of the river.

Fantastic breakfast burritos and breakfast sandwiches. Also, we got their Saturday night BBQ. The brisket was magical. We loved the food. The staff was friendly and quick.

So delicious. Highly recommend. So excited they opened. Consistent and friendly staff. I literally dream of their sandwiches!!

Every item we’ve ordered has been absolutely delicious! The ingredients always are fresh and high quality. Our favorites are the Vermonter breakfast sandwich, Workhorse sandwich, the Bahn Mi, and the onion rings. The staff is so friendly and our orders are always made to perfection whether calling ahead or ordering in person. The outdoor seating by the river is also a plus. A must visit to anyone in the area!
