What a gorgeous property and filled with so much history. Docents allowed groups of people in every 15 minutes, spoke to the Lincoln family's story and then let us wander throughout the home and outside in the gardens - all breathtaking and overlook the mountains of Vermont. Some folks seemed to rush through - others spent a lot of time - hours there.

We enjoyed our visit to Abraham Lincoln’s son’s home. The docents were knowledgeable and helpful without intruding on our self guided tour. We walked up to the Pullman car, which was truly the highlight of our visit. Robert Lincoln’s observatory was also worth stopping at. So interesting!

Absolutely stunning property and wonderful educational tours. You can spend a lot of time just wandering in awe in the home itself or learn more about the train company Robert Lincoln headed for years. Pretty nice gift shop to boot.

We had complementary passes from the hotel for this, our second visit. The house and surrounding landscape and gardens are beautiful. There are informative displays, and the Pullman train car is a must see.

We loved photographing at Hildene for Heather and Jesse's wedding! They even shared with us that this was not only the first venue they visited (and quickly fell in love with), but they had never even been to Manchester before! We are still talking about their ceremony, which overlooked the Taconic and Green Mountains, with endless views of the fields below. The gardens were even in full bloom for their special day. Everything was absolutely perfect!

So much to see! The grounds are beautiful, we loved the gardens, Pullman car and the house. We also walked to the farm and school house and enjoyed the paths and views. Unfortunately they are building a large structure between the mansion and the welcome center, that I understand is for administration.

Remarkable place to spend several hours! The house, built in 1905, is lovely to walk through (they have one of only three of Lincoln's actual stovepipe hats in existence!!), but we found the grounds and goat dairy farm to be even more of a draw. The formal gardens are just gorgeous! And the Pullman train car is absolutely stunning, like walking directly into an Agatha Christie novel.

The goat farm will show you everything from the milking process to the cheese making, and they usually have baby kids to pet. There are miles and miles of walking paths, through forests and pollinator meadows.

The gift shop is adorable and sells cheese made on the farm, maple syrup from tapped maple trees on the farm, wool from alpacas on the farm - you get the picture. My three children and I really loved the visit, we will come to say hi at Christmas when the historical decorations are up.

Hildene is a beautiful home full of history and memories. The countryside around it is gorgeous, especially in the fall. Lincoln' s action in history was particularly beneficial to the United States. It is well shown in the room dedicated to history.

This was nice historical place to visit in Vermont. We really loved visiting here and learn about President Abraham Lincoln’s family. Everything was so well maintained. The hiking trails to the goat farm and the Organs played when entered inside Hildene were two of my favorites among all.

If you like history and walking you need to go to Hildene if you are in Manchester,Vt. The building is stunningly stuck in the past, the staff there are just so welcoming and helpful. The gardens and more gardens and paths are a great way to spend an afternoon. The views..are a 20 out of a 1-5
So.much.to.see on the property! A Pullman original train car, gazebo, star gazer,gardens..a must stop for history lovers.

Absolutely loved stepping back in time and feeling how the descendents of Abe Lincoln lived in beautiful Vermont. The staff were incredibly friendly, while also allowing us the freedom to explore the estate. The garden was gorgeous and the house itself looked as if it were still 1908. A must go if you are in the area!

What a treat to experience this beautiful piece of history! We were fortunate enough to visit during the Christmas season and the decorations were incredible! This is a wonderful place to visit any time of the year, I can image, and we’ll definitely be back again. Don’t miss out on visiting this estate. It will transport you into history with an unspoiled mountain vista for a backdrop.

What a beautiful way to close out our weekend in Manchester!

We spent a warm Sunday morning at Hildene, and we started with the tour of the house which we were able to roam about on our own. The woman who greeted us was friendly, attentive, and happy to answer any questions. We crossed paths with a guided tour which was very informative!
Once we finished our tour inside we were able to freely roam about the grounds! With over 12 miles of trails to explore there was no shortage of places to see. A stop to see the baby goats was a must! So cute!
The gift shop had just about everything you could imagine from locally made items, to honey, to cheese made from the goats on-site!
For a gift shop, I thought the prices were very reasonable. We were able to purchase mother's day gifts and keep it under $50 (and we purchased a lot!)
Your admission gets you all day access to the grounds (as long as you have your sticker). So $23 really isn't all that bad when you factor that aspect into it as well.

I highly recommend checking out Hildene if you're in the area, it's a great piece of history and if that's not your thing, the views and grounds are beautiful as well!

Thoroughly enjoyed touring the home and grounds of the Lincoln family home in Manchester VT. The grounds and gardens with views of the Green Mountains are exquisite! The mansion is lovingly kept true to the era and the docents are very knowledgeable and helpful. The Pullman car was very interesting and beautifully renovated. The goat farm was filled with well-kept goats and we watched fresh cheese being wrapped.
The grounds are immaculate and there are trams available for those who prefer rides rather than walk the paths and trails of such a large estate.

A lovely place to spend an afternoon! The gardens are beautiful and the property has a wonderful trail system as well. The trails are easy to navigate and well maintained.
A good portion of the property is stroller friendly, though I do warn you that it’s a lot of hills!
Overall, I highly recommend a visit.

One of the most marvelous places. There are a great number walking and hiking trails. You can walk through the gardens, and walk around the grounds to see all of the beauty of the area. The house is very cool inside, and the original furniture and things inside make it worth the trip. The cost was reasonable considering all of the things to see. Also there were many attendants teaching all about what we were seeing. There was also a Pullman Train car and it gave the history of the Pullman Porters, which was very cool.

Beautiful property and gardens! Don't forget to visit the cheese factory and the train car. You can take the hiking trails to access or be dropped off by the shuttle. Great little gift shop too. Makes for a fun day... A must visit.
