Mary's is out of the way, does not have scenic views of anything in particular, and is certainly more expensive than, say Al's French Frys in South Burlington. But even though it's about 40 minutes from our house down to Bristol just to get there (driving one way) it really is our go-to for special occasion dining or when we just really want a good meal served by staff who actually know what went into the food and can intelligently discuss it. We especially love the garlic soup (they sell it in quarts for take-home, which should tell you something) but to be honest, we've never had a bad meal there. They do have a full bar with quite a few house-designed cocktails, but neither my wife nor I are big drinkers so we haven't sampled many of them. The food, though, is outstanding and the ambience is quiet, intimate, relaxing, and comfortable. There's a reason why Mary's appears on many "What Absolutely Not To Miss When You Come To Vermont" lists.

Amazing food and extremely friendly staff! We ordered a New Years Eve deal and we had enough for breakfast and lunch the next day! So good! We didn’t get our garlic soup but with the delicious food and drinks we had, we didn’t even notice until after. We will be back to try the soup!

We travelled 6 hours to have dinner here, and it was well worth it.

We had an amazing experience! We arrived early to have a cocktail before dinner and were immediately seated in front of the fireplace in the main dining room. The ambience could not have been better. The drink menu was extensive with a surprise VT craft bourbon on the list! Entrees were fabulous (duck prepared perfectly - not always the case when eating out - my guest had deliciously prepared salmon). The service was impeccable - VERY attentive and friendly! An easy ride from the Burlington area - and well worth it!

The Inn has quickly become a favorite place to stay in Vermont, while skiing or hiking in the Mad River Valley. Accommodations are cozy and welcoming, analogous to having excellent chocolate chip cookies available at all times in a cookie jar in the hallway upstairs. Breakfast here is included and fantastic. Highly recommend planning to have dinner (or at least cocktails) here, as well. Every course has been stellar in the 5 meals we have had here! Laura Mack, manager of the bar and events, is a particular delight and very talented mixologist and ice cream creator (lulu ice cream, rated best in VT). We plan to return here again and again for the ambiance and unbeatable hospitality!

I love Mary’s! We have been staying at the Inn at Baldwin Creek for three Middlebury graduations and could not be more in love with the Inn, the incredible food (locally sourced, sustainably produced, incredibly delicious) and the wonderful owners (Doug and Linda) who made sure our stay was perfect. The rooms are clean, the beds are extremely comfortable and the walls are decorated with paintings by local artists. The bear-shaped cookie jar on the second floor (which is always full of THE BEST soft chocolate chip cookies) is not to be missed! Doug’s scones are the best on the planet (and I lived in London for several years). All of the food at Mary’s is to die for, but start with the famous garlic soup! Also be sure to try the local Switchback beer on tap. I could not recommend this inn / restaurant more!!

Wonderful gem of a Place! Warm and inviting..outstanding service (thank you Laura)..wonderful fun menu with something for All! The corn appetizer..garlic soup.. Cheese rolls all must have for starters. We were a party of 7 and everyone enjoyed their entrees from fish to steak to burgers! The olive oil cake is a must try! One of the best places in the region! Have a cocktail on the lawn beforehand..the bar is also wonderful!

Fanciful drinks that are very good. The broccoli frutti was outstanding. Crunch and savory. The Mack, a hamburger was done perfectly and the French fries were excellent. We had been traveling all day so I chose a lighter item. Most food selections were upscale.

If you're considering eating at Mary's, then stop... I'm making the decision for you: GO RIGHT NOW. Pull a U-turn, drive over that medium... if you cause a ten car pile up trying to get to Mary's it would be worth it. The food is amazing, the waitstaff extremely friendly and attentive. It was not expensive, the environment is quaint, feels very Vermont. My girlfriend and I ate here this past weekend after a day exploring upstate Vermont. Truly a perfect restaurant experience. I would give it 6 star/ 5 if Google let me. Go try it for yourself!

Such a charming place for dinner or brunch. They source their ingredients locally and prepare it well. They have a good and well stocked bar and make delicious cocktails. They have movie nights in the barn, a beautiful space.

We were fortunate enough to have hosted the rehearsal dinner on the eve of our son's wedding in the Barn. We live in New Jersey, and I relied on Lynda to guide us through the plans for the dinner. I don't know where to begin to convey how perfect the evening was! ! The atmosphere was casual / elegant, just as promised. The FRESH,natural food served by the congenial staff is still being talked about. My husband and I cannot thank you enough for making our part of the wedding such a beautiful, memorable one.The evening could never have been duplicated anywhere else!!!

Very cozy, well kept restaurant and inn! We went for thanksgiving and the options for food were amazing! There were so many choices, and the food was top notch. Highly recommend going here with family. The only issue is that it’s somewhat far from civilization.

An oasis... Linda & Doug are the innkeepers. They’ve got cozy, immaculate, nicely appointed rooms.
The entry level of the inn is where you’ll find Mary’s Restaurant. Cheffed by Doug Mack himself mostly. In my opinion one of the best restaurants in Vermont.
This is a SLOW food establishment. That’s sustainable, local, organic and wild. Check out their menu as well as future cooking classes on line.
I suggest a starter of garlic soup....
Skip the cup , order a bowl.

I've been to Mary's a lot since I moved to Vermont 5 years ago and can honestly say I've never had a bad meal. Great service, great food, at a reasonable price. I would recommend you pay a visit if you've never been.

Charming environment, efficient and friendly service. And of course, the food was wonderful and plentiful - more than we could comfortably finish. Definitely try the Garlic Soup; it was stellar! Highly recommended!

My wife and I stayed at the Inn for three nights. We also ate breakfasts and dinners there, and spent time at the bar. Everything exceeded our expecations. The rooms were comfortable and clean, the service was friendly and welcoming, and the food was excellent.

We had some great drinks at the bar and then watched a movie in the barn. The location was beautiful, everyone was friendly, and we really enjoyed the free movie!
