This is one of my all time favorite B&Bs! Located very close to downtown Middlebury this is a gorgeously renovated Greek Revival brick home. The bedrooms are lovely and spare, and our bed was one of the most comfortable we've ever slept in. The breakfasts are superb. Hosts are very engaging but, as another viewer said, they are also respectful of guests' privacy. On summer mornings breakfast is on the back porch overlooking breathtaking gardens and the Otter Creek. Highly recommended!!

We had a wonderful time at On The Creek! The room was clean, spacious and a perfect location for exploring Middlebury and Vermont. We had some great conversations with Zelia and Gary, as well as the other guests. Breakfast was great and very filling. We hope to go back again sometime soon!

Beautiful spot a short walk from both town and campus! Delicious scones, granola, fruit salad, and omelet for breakfast, the perfect blend of company and privacy, and the perfect screened in porch to relax on. We slept so well! Zelia and Gary were perfect hosts.

After eight years coming to Middlebury, I know this is the best place to stay. Comfortable. Convenient. Clean. Great breakfasts. And the folks who run On the Creek are friendly, knowledgeable and great to spend time with.

Stayed here twice in the last couple years. A+ experience both times.

Location is very convenient to Middlebury but out of the traffic zone. A casual (and no doubt calculated) level of drowsy overgrowth in the extensive gardens enhances the sense of seclusion. The fruit trees and flowers and nodding grasses take you down to the river behind the property ... Suzanne, Cezanne, whatever. It's gorgeous.

The house is classic old brick outside, with a not-quite-spartan mix of old New England and Scandanavian design elements inside. Delicate paint colors sneak up and finally you notice how carefully done they are. In short, everything is done with understated taste and expert implementation. If you love ruffly pillow shams, potpourri, and tchotchkes, bless you, but this is not your place. Now shoo.

Breakfast is exquisite, featuring the world's best scones. Anywhere. Ever. Like everything here, they are subtle and reveal themselves gradually. Also homemade as part of the meal are this, that, and the other thing. All delicious and pretty. If the weather smiles, you eat and have a second coffee on the screened porch.

More than anything what makes this place are the hosts, Zelia and Gary. She, with a continental sternness that suddenly evaporates with a giggle and a clever sotto voce quip. He, open and welcoming and funny, but soft spoken and never overbearing or excessively talky. Their love for the property and their pleasure in making guests happy and comfortable is clear.

Yes, you will have to send an actual paper check, like the old days. Yes, this is a pain. Yes, it is totally worth it. Doubt it? Well, I'm sure there are some ruffly shams down the road with your name on them. Meanwhile I'm dreaming of scones.

Clean. Did not have a private bathroom if that is important to a guest.

While it was very clean and had updated modern appliances, it was completely charm-free. Well-designed so the host did not have to lift a finger (directions not to leave any dishes in the sink, remove shoes indoors, take your soiled towels to their porch...). Decorated in white, white, and touches of black, the unit was devoid of any color and had no art on any wall nor any attractive decorative pieces. The spiral staircase in the center of the unit was an accident waiting to happen. Apparently upholstered furniture was not permitted. Nor was a sofa. Two rather uncomfortable chairs made sure the was no snuggling on the premesis. Never could this be called cozy. Words like Spartan, sterile and minimalist come to mind. With all said, the location was lovely and convenient.
