I visited this cemetery last week with my friend. It’s a beautiful cemetery in the center of Newark with a ton of history. We met two of the volunteer groundskeepers who have been working very hard on cleaning it up. They were very friendly and told us all about the history and important headstones to look out for. We walked through most of the paths. It’s a very peaceful place and I’d love to go back. I personally love the overgrown look in some areas but am begging people to please not leave their trash around here. There are trash cans throughout. Respect those who rest there and clean up after yourselves. 🙌🏻

I've been in contact with the volunteer team surrounding Mary Lish and her friends for about 3 years now....In 2019 I was looking for information of the burial sites of some of my ancestors...the team collected information for me, and even sent me photos of the graves of my relatives....I admire this work, and that includes the cleaning up of the cemetery, of the graves and gravestones also, as well as the digitization of the data on the old documents and tombstones....many gravesites are of course still in the devastated areas... but they are working on it....they are all volunteers, who don't get any money for it...by the way: every small donation helps.....some of the photos, I received, are attached....I am very grateful !!!....greetings from Germany :-)

Visited the cemetery with volunteer caretaker and my spouse. He spoke to about history of the cemetery and escorted us to my great grandmother's and other relatives gravesite. We were able to take photos which meant so much to me. The volunteers have worked so hard at cleaning up the cemetery. They should be commended for their hard work and diligence. Battling nature can be a never-ending battle and these volunteers don't give up.

It's known that the cemetery seemed to have gone through a long period of being abandoned, causing the lawn to be very overgrown. I'm a witness that Mr. Vincentz & his team have been doing a great job of cleaning up the property. I was able to visit the cemetery for the first time yesterday & put some flowers down for a relative. Her area was very nice & maintained. Afterwards I asked Mr. Vincentz if he could show me around the cemetery & teach me about its fascinating history. A huge percentage of the property has been cut & looks great! He showed me the remaining areas that need work & the schedule for all of it. Not only did I enjoy my visit, but I felt safe & I really appreciated his kindness & friendly customer service. I can't wait to see how this place looks within the next few months!

My 3rd great grandparents are buried here at Woodland Cemetery. I knew little about them as far as exactly where they were buried and their birthdates and death dates. So, I wrote an email asking for any information that may have been recorded by the cemetery and within 30-40 minutes I received a call from a gentleman named Warren. He had all the information I had been looking for. Thank you to the volunteers of Woodland Cemetery for your time and dedication, especially Warren for contacting me so quickly!

My mother and grandmother both died over 50 years ago and neither ever had a headstone. I've been trying for years to get that done, but living on the opposite coast has made it quite a challenge. Over the years, after corresponding with several persons associated with the administration and maintenance of the cemetery, their graves have recently been located. Thanks to the Woodland staff, I anticipate finally being able to have headstones placed for them both.

Every interaction I have had with this very professional group has been outstanding. I would encourage everyone to rely on the Woodland team. They are friendly, helpful, kind, responsive and very, very knowledgeable.

There has been lots of work done at the cemetery by two guys volunteering all there time. It is starting to take shape again. Now if they could get the neighbors and town to stop dumping trash it would be great. If you would like to volunteer, stop in while they are working and help.

Geesh! to see Woodland Cemetery brings back a flood of memories, I have a number of friends buried there. I can remember hanging out with my friends and going there with a bottle of Wild Irish Rose and pour some on the graves of our loved ones, that were no longer there with us to have a drink. I resided on South 12th Street between Madison and Avon Ave. the area doesn't look the same. Google Maps thanks for the memories.

My second great-grandmother was buried here in 1969. She passed of cancer. I ask that the owner of the cemetery have enough respect for the families of the deceased and the deceased in general to please repair and do yard work in there. It saddens me that when I drive by the cemetery it looks that way. I would love to one day visit her grave and leave flowers. It would mean the world to me to just at least visit her once. The picture I am posting with this review is from findagrave.com.
