Taverna Newark

My team and I went to Taverna Newark for a business dinner. The menu was extensive and had a lot of options. I ordered the Baked Salmon and it was delicious. There was no free parking at the restaurant but I found a paid parking lot within walking distance.

This place is amazing!!!!! I was trying to find a new dinner spot for me and my wife. We chose this place hoping for the best. We were blown away by this experience! To start, the service was great and then the food came and let me tell you… it was the best food we have ever had at a restaurant!! Not just Italian food.. any food!! This place is top tier!! I will say, don’t expect to go here on a chik fil a budget. The prices range around $20-$30 per dish depending on what you get but everything is worth it and you will not find a better restaurant that serves great food with a comfortable ambiance. They serve still or sparkling water by the bottle to start. You can purchase a variety of wine by the bottle. The manager and employees are totally in tune with every request. This place is amazing and I highly recommend people to try it out! I cannot say enough great things. Service, food and atmosphere were absolutely amazing! An outstanding Italian restaurant in downtown Newark. Great menu selection infusing all of your Italian standards that you'd expect and also a decent beer and cocktail offering. We had three couples in our group and the service was quick and everything came out correctly. My only complaint was that our server didn't come back often enough to check on us and so we had to finally flag someone else down to get more drinks and the check.

I was in town for the night during a road trip and this restaurant was a great find! Their cocktails were amazing and everything we ordered was super tasty! Our waiter was super nice and had awesome recommendations for us. The sun dried tomato oil that came with the bread was incredibly delicious and made in house!

My partner was recommended here and it is immediately our favorite. The food is always fantastic and the servers great, and the portion size is perfection. I never leave hungry or dissatisfied. The bathrooms are quite nice too.

My boyfriend took me here for our 1 year anniversary dinner about a week or so ago and we had the BEST experience ever!

All the staff at Taverna are very friendly and welcoming. Our server was very attentive and knew the menu very well. She offered a sweet potato soup special and instantly sold me with her descriptions. By the way, it was DELICIOUS! I ordered carbonara and fried mozzarella and it was perfect! My boyfriend ordered salmon and he said the sauce was one of the best sauces he has EVER had! He also order fried calamari and it was my first time ever trying calamari and I am now a fan!

At the end of our meal, our sever brought out a slice of cheesecake (my favorite!) with a sparkler on it and wished us a happy anniversary. That was very thoughtful and I appreciated it so much.

I HIGHLY recommend dining at Taverna. The service and environment is unmatched. You will not be disappointed. Thank you for such an amazing dinner for my special night, Taverna.💛

Visited my daughter at Delaware from NY. I was so impressed with the food. Everything was delicious. The service was great too. 👍

Excellent staff, and above and beyond management. I'm my first visit, I knocked my drink off the table, and they happily cleaned and replaced it unprompted. The food is excellent, I would recommend the Butterscotch custard to anyone who hasn't had the privilege to try it.

Debated between 4 and 5 stars but decided on 5 due to service and overall experience. We came to look at the University of Delaware and Taverna had great reviews so we booked a dinner there. Reservations are HIGHLY recommended because this place gets very busy and appears to be a popular spot on Main St. The atmosphere is great, kind of industrial barn with some modern touches. Our server, Sean, was very attentive and never forgot about us. He checked in and knew the menu very well. Between three of us we had a pepperoni pizza, the gnocchi genovese and the cacio e pepi. Our daughter said the pizza was good, just a bit greasier than she expected. The caci e pepe had great flavor but was a smaller portion then expected. My husband had some of her pizza as he finished the pasta and was still hungry. The gnocchi had a yummy sauce but was overcooked and sadly, mushy. We also had the ricotta and balsamic appetizer, which was delicious and the warm bread brought to our table was fantastic. We would absolutely return and try some different items. I would say you could try any of the things we got and be happy as I'm thinking the gnocchi was a fluke that it just wasn't cooked right that night. Maybe get a salad or another side if you get a pasta dish. The salmon looked really good so maybe I'd try that next time. Also happy to say that the bathrooms were VERY clean. It's worth a stop if you are in the area.

Stopped into Taverna for dinner while in Newark and I wasn't disappointed. The staff were very friendly (particularly Chelsea), the atmosphere was great and the food was outstanding. I loved their take on the calamari and the cannelloni were excellent. I'll definitely come back here next time I'm in the area. Some folks have said the prices are too high, but I disagree since everything is outstanding...also, you get what you pay for!

Taverna did not disappoint the food, atmosphere & service were top notch!! You must try the fried calamari, spicy chicken cutlet sandwich & “The Lemon” drop!! You will not be disappointed!

We have been fans of Taverna for years - it’s our frequent date night! One of my fave things was the delicious bread, including the bread appetizers. This summer they changed the bread and it is awful! It’s not Italian at all. It’s like a dense wheat bread that they are still serving with olive oil and tomato (they changed this too and it’s not good). I’ve let them know each time that it’s really disappointing. The servers have all agreed that it’s terrible and that everyone complains about it. Why would you ruin a good thing? All the other food options and drinks are amazing! The ceaser salad, pizzas, burger, Italian dishes — all fabulous! Bring back the fabulous bread, please!

All is right in taverna world again! The amazing bread is back and now we can be regulars again!

This place is FANCY! But, like college town fancy and not stuffy. Good selection of beers and food - the spaghetti and tomatoes is really really good...and so is their bread and oil...the oil has smashed up sundried tomatoes in it. Jim said the pizza was really good as well. Oh...AND THEY MAKE THEIR OWN LIMONCELLO!

Update: still great! Cozy and warm this winter. I needed a quick refire for my carbonara and it was done so fast and perfect.

Extremely delicious food across the menu. Nice ambience. Expensive. I had the special broccoli cream rigatoni with fried chicken. Highly recommend

What a great restaurant! I was in town for business with some colleagues. One of our local guys recommended this place.

Lots of great drinks and food. They had a nice al fresco set up as well.

I loved the mascarpone cheesecake for dessert. The staff really knew what they were doing as well.

Excellent food! Service is fantastic & ambiance is terrific! Great place to get a nice meal. Margherita pizza is good, but beef brosata is very delicious. Cost is a bit high, but food is worth it in my opinion.

Taverna was everything. I started with the steamed little neck clams that over delivered! Every bite was an experience. I believe the meal I had was called pork shank served over polenta that definitely gave me the warm and fuzzies. I will be back to try other items on the menu.

My family and I were at university of delaware for family weekend. We made reservations at Taverna for lunch. I have to say it was one of the most enjoyable dining experiences we've had at a restaurant in a very long time. Our waiter Sean was outstanding, he was extremely attentive. He made sure we never wantes for anything. So pleased and highly recommended it anyone coming to visit their childb at University of Delaware.

My husband and I went out with his family. There were 8 of us. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered. We both ordered the Beef Brasato (see attached pic). The meat melted in your mouth and was on top of risotto. Of what I remember, also ordered at the table was the Carbonara, Hand Cut Fettuccine and a pizza. Wonderful and very attentive staff.
