Beautiful house, the tour guide was very informative and super nice. We enjoyed our visit! Definitely recommend it if you’re into historical places. The tours are done Thursday through Sunday every hour on the hour 😄

The garden is free and stunning even if it isn't big.

House tours cost $10 per person, but I didn't have enough time for the tour (this is so sad)

14 foot ceilings, punch and gauge by hand woodwork, with beautiful views of the River. We learned about the inhabitants of the home for 175 years or more. Well worth the visit. Make sure you tour the rest of the city too.

This is in New Castle, DE and there is more to enjoy than the Read House. Our tour guide was fantastic, and it was a nice trip for my mom and I. Its was a wonderful place to learn of the history of that time, and how things were different. Coming to this quaint town is really a step back in time, with the period houses, cobblestone streets, and graves dating back to the 1700s. It is truly a beautiful historic town, and has views of the Delaware Memorial Bridge. There are other buildings you can tour, and small shops. I plan to go back in the fall to get a closer look, and to do the audio tour. If you love history, quiet, laid back places, this is a great place for couples or older children. The townspeople are friendly, the neighborhood safe, many people were walking their dogs-their was even a drinking fountain for them by the courthouse. Such a lovely place for a day trip.

I love this place and plan to go back, great spot to spend a few hours with the family. Next time I plan to bring lunch or set up a picnic.

Andrew was such a wonderful tour guide, very knowledgeable and very enthusiastic! We got to walk around the whole house, in a small group with plenty of freedom to look at all the objects in the rooms. The entry was $10 for an adult or $8 for students and $5 for youths. Thank you again Andrew!

A hidden gem. We visited the Read House on the spur of the moment. Very glad we did. It was an amazing house, and we had a wonderful tour that lasted about one hour. Make sure to stop here if you are in New Castle.

Stunning example of a garden from the early 19th century. Views of the river add to the beauty. I can't wait for the house museum to open up!

Our tour guide was excellent and very knowledgeable about the whole house. It’s furnishings, history of the Read family, and, little antidotes along the way, I highly recommend this tour.

5 stars for the docent, who gave us the best tour we have ever had. She was very thorough explaining the history of the house and how the occupants would have lived and worked. We arrive at 230 and had the 300 tour.

This was a beautiful experience so great to see how people used to lived. Our tour guide was awesome. She was so detailed. It was little warm don't too many lathers when you go.

It's a very nice and well maintained garden. Reminds me of the movie Secret Garden.
Though the gentlemen who lives across the street did come to harass my group because we were sitting in the car talking. He wasn't very friendly at all.

The woodwork and fine detail is something you wont come across often in your life. Definitely a cool house to visit with a neat history behind it.
