I visited this place pre-pandemic and had a mediocre experience and wrote a mediocre review. My early experience was particularly tainted by a traumatically horrific flan that I will not mention further. However I went back recently and my experience was totally different and so I am updating my review.

This time around, it was some of the best Mexican food I have had in years. We got a lot of different things. It was consistently excellent. Things I tried were tlacoyos, a tostada with pulpo (octopus), a tamale, and a giant chicken soup. Everything was excellent: fresh ingredients, perfect balance of spices and flavors, generous quantities but without it being overwhelming.

Prices were great too. Many restaurants have decreased their selection, increased their prices, and/or decreased their quality following the pandemic. This place seems to be one of the few restaurants that is still offering the sort of experience I want at a price point I can afford!

The only two things to be mindful of here: (1) the menu is massive and can be intimidating (2) the food takes a long time to come out, probably because they are making it from scratch. Service was good, but it still took a little longer than I'm used to for the food to come out. This is not necessarily a problem though. Clearly they put GREAT care into the food prep. It was exquisite.

I am looking forward to coming back here. This may become a new favorite restaurant for me!

Good Mexican food. Lots of options. I love the tacos there. Especially on Tuesdays ;)

The guacamole is the BEST we have ever eaten (my husband is Mexican and agrees). Such great food all around; love their orchata and flan. you cannot go wrong with any of their entrees. We enjoy that their coke products are served in bottles.

Soooo good! Queso dip is delicious, rice and beans are also super delicious...and I like the mermaid water drink quite a bit! They have lots of different salsas and margaritas. We have had the sopes, enchiladas, chimichangas, and the Mexican sopa. We have been many many times...in fact, Atexquita is the place we go to celebrate!

A hidden gem with the University of Delaware area. We always have a great time visiting this place. Every time we would go, we would try something else and the food is very delicious. The staff is very pleasant and takes care of you.

We have been here several times and there is always a table that is available and no wait time. We usually go during lunch time so we are not sure if the situation is the same if you go at night.

They also have a bar in case you want to have a drink or two.

The Chorizo Queso and Street Tacos were delicious and the bartender was very friendly and attentive. We'll definitely visit again.

A great Mexican restaurant food in Newark, DE. Service is also friendly, though some days can be slow since there’s only 1 person working in the front. For taco Tuesday, $5 for 3 tacos (pastor, chicken, carne asada, carnitas).

Overall a pretty good restaurant to grab a bite and enjoy Mexican food in Newark. I’ve been here multiple times and have invited friends to eat here as well, especially during happy hour (and their margs are amazing). Probably going to visit again sometime soon!

Very good and affordable, customer service is great, went on a Tuesday 9/20/22 3 for $5 tacos, can’t beat that. Nachos and tacos was delicious

Delicious tacos at a very fair price. Service was slow and not the best, but the quality of the food more than made up for it.

Taco Tuesday 3 tacos for $5. You can't beat that. And it is really good!

I have both ordered delivery and take out and both experiences have been SO GOOD! Their chips are genuine fried tortillas and are my favorite parts! I always get one of their burritos! I would HIGHLY recommend this place if you are looking for Mexican! Also parking isn't bad if you use the Pats parking lot and walk over!

We got the shrimp rancheros and the cheese stuffed poblano with an enchilada. Both were great. The horchata was some of the best I’ve ever had, I loved it. The fresh chips and pico were delicious and so fresh and light, the chips were even still good the day after, after being in the fridge all night. The staff was super nice and helpful without being overbearing. We’ll definitely be coming back!

We usually get the spicy nachos. It's definitely spicy and tasty. Taco Tuesday is cash only and they serve authentic tacos. I'm surprised it's not more popular. It's definitely a higher gem. Parking is limited in the back. You can only park in that first row.

This is probably one of the most underrated restaurants for authentic Mexican food. The tacos are affordable (3 dollars per taco) and they also have taco Tuesdays (3 tacos for 5 dollars). The place is clean, and generally not crowded at all (disclaimer: I have only been there for lunch on weekdays). The staff is friendly, and they leave you alone (which I prefer, instead of over-enthusiastic staff that keep coming to check on you). Music is nice, and the art on the walls is very interesting as well (see photos). Definitely recommended, if you like low key places that are not loud and serve simple, excellent food!

Everything about the visit was perfect. There margaritas flight was on point and the Chimichanga was one of the best I ever had. Flavor was everything I was looking for. Will be back for taco Tuesday in a few days.
