Charcoal Pit located at 2600 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803 is the best Burger place I’ve ever been to. Legendary for its charcoal grilled burgers made with really quality meat - and the taste is what it’s all about! They also have really good shakes and fries/onion rings.
Worth traveling to!

The Kennett Square burger with mushrooms, Swiss and bacon was excellent. I love that you can get it done to your liking, for example: medium rare or well done. Also vanilla shake was super tasty. Service was great!
Edit: I revisited this restaurant recently and the food and service was still really good. Soup of the day is excellent also. Restaurant was under construction inside, but should be really nice and updated soon.

OG place to get burgers, dogs, steaks and shakes.
Never had anything bad.
The two hot dog special is funny because both are on one large bun!! Awesome.

Charcoal Pit is the best, and still remains as one of the go to places to get a milkshake or root beer float. The atmosphere is unmatched and pricing is reasonable. Wish the one in Pike Creek was still there!

First time trying from this restaurant and the food was nice. Fish, chips and cheese steak were yummy. Overall a bit more seasoning would have been nice. The fish was perfectly fried, crisp on outside and tender on inside😍 Loved it’s texture. The cheese stake was juicy and flavorful.
It was worth the price.

Great food, quick service and a throwback 50's era atmosphere. Try the black & white milkshake if you like sweets. The prices for a majority of the items are also extremely low compared to similar places.

This was an amazing retro diner with fast, friendly service. We were promptly seated and given a packed menu too varied to describe. We settled for burgers and fries and they were delicious. We then opted for shakes to go. Mine was orange sherbet and was very tasty. This brought back fond memories of the doo woo days including juke boxes at every booth from Bobby Vale to Amy Winehouse. Highly recommended.

I have to say, without a doubt, The pit has the best burgers in Delaware. My son and I stopped here for dinner last night and everything was perfect. The shakes, fries, crowd and the burgers were excellent. We usually go somewhere else for burgers but no more. This is our spot from now on.

Family reunion at our favorite family hangout. The burgers were as good as we remembered. Great ice cream for dessert.

Great food, but make you save room for the ice cream 🍨

The Charcoal Pit is a Delaware staple for good food and service in a charming old school atmosphere. Joe is one of our favorite servers, and he always makes sure that we're satisfied. He's been working there for 37 years, and he still loves to serve his customers every day. Ask for him, but truth be told, when you go, you'll be happy with all the servers and their great personalities and service.

Just went to the Pit and the burger is just as tasty as it was 40 years ago. Same classic fifties vibe atmosphere with Naugahyde booths and Seeburg wall boxes.

The place has an old school malt shop/burger joint vibe, with laminated menus and mini jukeboxes at every table (but just for decoration, I don’t think they work anymore). And, admittedly, it looks pretty dive-y when you first walk in, but I promise you it’s worth it.
But oh man do they make a heck of a burger and shake. Plus anything else you would find in a standard american restaurant. Given the name, their specialty is certainly what comes off the grill, but don’t shy away from their top tier salads. The fryer is also great, with perfectly made chickie tendies and fries. And I really do mean PERFECT. Never dried out, never overcooked.
The ice cream options are also phenomenal. They have ice cream dishes named after local high schools and the shakes are all wonderful.
Also Barrack Obama ate there once with Joe Biden, which is pretty dope.

We love to visit this Wilmington icon whenever we’re in town. My husband’s dad and brothers were the original owner/operators. My son lives the milkshakes.

Real feel 50's/ 60's dinner. Still looks the part. Checkerboard floor and all! Food was great and the milkshakes were nice and thick!!

An institution. Get a milkshake, a burger, fries, and split a Sunday named after a local high-school. Bring quarters for the boothside jukebox, and enjoy the classic- almost poetic- American experience that only exists in propaganda and Saturday morning cartoons.
Also, in the summer, the soup of the day is usually gazpacho- get it. Shocking to me that a burger joint in Delaware has such a thing, but it's killer.

This place is great if you're in the mood for an old school vibe and a good burger and fries. Servers were kind and helpful. We got our food extremely fast and it was delicious, and the old school milkshakes are an instant classic. The only complaint i have is that, as a 6' 2" overweight man, i did not fit comfortably into any of the booths, but the servers were kind enough to let us move to the bar seats. If you are a big guy like me, consider ordering for takeout, instead of dining in.

Had dinner here with my son after a basketball game. Service and food were great. Black and bleu salad was amazing.
