My experience with Democracy Prep for my kids since they have started attending the school and transferred over from Apple Tree have been quite stressful because the first thing that they are quick to do is suspend an child rather than having the child in ISS (In School Suspension). Another thing that they don't do that they need to do is follow the students IEP'S that have those and what they need to work on and do for the child that needs extra services. One thing that they also need to do is have more security inside the building because only having 1 security inside the school will not work because what if there are multiple incidents that start happening at the same time and the security is only able to get to just one, so I honestly think they need a security guard on not just the 2nd floor but also on the 3rd floor as well. Another thing that needs to be addressed or have some thing done about is the parents that ya'll want to have volunteer up at the school but when they do have parent volunteers, they don't have any place for the parents to sit at when they let the parents go grab lunch for an break before starting back the volunteering but they want parent volunteers though. I think that they need to have an serious NO BULLYING RULES and consequences for the kids that are constantly being bullied or the ones that are doing the bullying to avoid from mines or other kids that I know personally being bullied and nothing is being done about it. I personally think that they need a no bullying policy rule with a more firm action.

I feel that some of the teachers can't control the classroom. My child was suspended for three days instead of being sent to ISS. She missed out on alot by sitting at home instead of going to school to get her education. I'm not saying my child is the best child cause we all know that we make mistakes but, sometimes being suspended is not the best thing for the school or the child. It's up to the parent and teacher to work together so our scholars can become successful in life. Also, the teachers have to be able to control the kids and the classroom. Their are really good teachers at this school and some teachers are not teaching the kids as well as they can, you have to be able to get the kids to listen and pay attention so the teachers can do their job. My child has had a tough time this year and I've seen a side of her that I never seen before. But when I went in the classroom to sit with her for a day I see why she was acting how she acted not saying i'ts an excuse but, she can't learn, kids are walking out of the classroom jumping on the floor in, and out of their seats talking back to the staff and being very disrespectful. Now you tell me who can learn in this environment?

My kids attended this school when they first came about 4 years ago and took over Imagine SE PCS (which I miss dearly). The first year they didn't even have recess for the kids. Kids had to be to school at 7:15am and didn't get out until 4:15pm with no physical outlet. That changed by the 2nd year due to parents complaining. They have had about 3 or 4 principals. When my son was in Kindergarten his class went through FOUR teachers before finally getting one and she was AWESOME! So they fired her. The teachers they should've kept they got rid of. At the beginning of the school year you pay a $50 fee per child to cover school supplies and field trips...they NEVER go on field trips unless its to a college and that's towards the end of the school year. The teachers although academically qualified are not trained nor how to deal with the kids based on the area. My kids couldn't wait to leave Democracy Prep and neither could I. I'm only giving them two stars because there are a few teachers that taught there that I really like and so did my kids, but of course they fired the good teachers.

This school does the dumbest things. Pick up times, for kids, are 3:30 pm and 4:15 pm. They will literally, hold your children hostage. If there's and emergency....too bad. How you you stop someone, from picking up their child? You need your i.d., to drop your child off but, you don't need one, to pick them up. STUPID STUPID STUPID!!! Their dismissal procedure, is sloppy and unorganized. This school, is just winging it. I give them 2 years, tops.

Most of the teaching staff is very qualified. Unfortunately the way the school is ran should be a crime against the district. 4th year 4th different principle, hardly no field trips or activities, disruptive classrooms, bullying issues, etc. I have been hands on with trying to change the dynamic but the upper management doesn't budge. The question I ask to clowns like Seth Andrew is would you send your child to this school? No you wouldn't but you can leave comments and ratings on the school that you only touch from a distance.

I absolutely HATED every second every minute I spent at DP Congress Heights!
Additionally I felt the method of pedagogy bordered on CHILD ABUSE !
This system is only debuting in low socioeconomic area or low income and
minority communities as affluent communities (white) would be outraged.
Because the leadership is non minority the school's procedures and practices
are excepted . Finally this system and
it's practices should be investigated by
authorities for unlawfulness and out
right illegal/child abuse of children.

My 7 year old was repeatedly put on suspension. His learning suffered from lack of classroom management. The staff appears to let the students run amok. Then they suspend them. This is not a learning environment! Don't bother checking out this school for your child!
