Wally's Roast Beef

I stopped in for lunch with my parents. It was their first time eating there. Philly sandwiches were good. Chili was a little spicy & mashed potatoes were good, but there was more gravy than potatoes.

What an odd little gem! I discovered this place by accident, and was pleasantly surprised. I have to say, the onion rings were the highlight. No idea if they're fresh or frozen but whatever they were they were delicious. Perfect batter-to-onion ratio, and crispy as all get out.
I had the roast beef with swiss cheese, and got their creamy horseradish on the side, which was also impressively spicy. So often creamy horseradish is really weak and bland, this stuff had some real kick to it.
I will admit, the bun the sandwich was served on seemed like a strange choice compared to the quality of everything else (like cheap store bought hamburger bun), but it certainly wasn't bad.
Potato salad was classic deli potato salad, well executed.
Service was friendly and fast.
The atmosphere was the strangest part of the experience. An odd blend of 60's diner meets New York delicatessen tucked away in a nondescript office building. Although there is signage and a patio out front, you'd never know it was there unless you were looking for it.
While it was technically clean, the whole restaurant looked like it hadn't been updated in any real way since the 60's...
That aside, the food was good and priced decently. Definitely recommend this place for a quick and satisfying lunch.

I found Wally's at the old location back in 2008. Haven't stopped going. I love the roast beef sandwich!

Classic, Bloomington staple. Great price and phenomenal roast beef. Food is always fresh, always delicious. My favorite thing about working from home is walking to Wally's for lunch. Very cool atmosphere, especially as a Bloomington native!

Fast and friendly service. Delicious roast beef sandwiches and blue plate special. I put their bbq sauce on everything. Nice old diner atmosphere. They even have a working push button juke box with classic hits.

This place is a bit of a hidden gem. Obviously the roast beef sandwiches are good. Also try the onion rings. Dining in at lunch time on a Saturday there were plenty of tables available.

Been coming here for years upon the recommendation of a friend and his family who eat here all the time as well.

Ordered catering for a birthday party, the amounts of food they recommended was spot on and affordable. Everyone loved building their own roast beef sandwiches and commented on how delicious everything was.

I always looked forward to seeing my doctor cause I knew what awaited me in the end. =) The best fast food burger and chocolate shake in Minneapolis. Hands down! I miss Wally’s so much now that I’m living back in Canada. Thanks for the great memories!!

No frills, straightforward sandwiches that are the best! The roast beef literally melts in your mouth. And if you feel underwhelmed by the thick hamburger roll, that just means that you forgot the au jus. So go back to the counter, order some au jus and start dipping!

I loved finding this place. I feel like it's a Hidden Gem. Casual dining with excellent food if you like roast beef. Very friendly service. Orders available to go. They've been in business around 50 years. They even have old-fashioned malts.

I ordered a roast beef with cheddar, au jus, and mashed potatoes with gravy.

The roast beef was tender and flavorful; I didn’t need the au jus. I used it, however to create and even better experience. The mashed potatoes were exceptional in flavor as well.

I ordered to go; it was prepped and ready in about 5 minutes and the staff was friendly.

They’ve been around since 1969 for a reason. If you’ve never gone, check them out. If you’re a fan, remind yourself why and go back!

A Bloomington staple for decades and one of the best roast beef sandwich shops in the West Metro. My wife prefers their open-faced plates which I've only tasted but will try a full order next time. Great malts as well!

The roast beef is delicious. I love the blue plate special (hot beef with real mashed potatoes). We go at least a couple times a week. Only open until 3.

Wally's Roast Beef was the perfect place to stop for a quick bite to eat on a Saturday afternoon! The roast beef was amazing, so tender, plus I added cheddar & smoked bacon to it... YUM! Onion rings were perfect, & even their horseradish is on point! Will be back & bringing friends next time!

We get take-out from here a lot. The roast beef sandwiches, the reuben - all terrific. The onion rings are some of the best I've ever had in my life!

Good food and great value. Classic diner feel and classic comfort food... roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy or they can make it into sandwich. They also have Turkey and meatloaf. A good lunch spot but it is inside a business building with not much signage. So don't be surprised if your GPS takes you to an office building.
