Cub Liquor - Bloomington Valley West

Grocery store, all new to me, we were in Minnesota because I had appointments @ Mayo Clinic. So we got acquainted with a few of the grocery stores. I found that groceries are somewhat more expensive here; however, there's no tax on food or clothing.

Staff is always super polite. My favorite liquor store based on customer service by far and it doesn't hurt that my favorite wine seems to always be on sale.

Helpful and attentive staff. Great selection and sales, great for beer sales during holidays. Something for everyone.

My boyfriend and I stopped here to pick up supplies for our Halloween party. We found the selection was pretty good - they didn’t have the small/medium sized bottles for what we needed but that was okay. When it was our turn to check out the cashier asked for our IDs and, gosh darn it, I had left my wallet in my other purse. We apologized for having to leave the stuff at the counter and I asked if we could just buy the tonic water (I didn’t know if that was okay or not since there is no booze). The middle-aged guy at the check out got obviously annoyed and snapped that he couldn’t sell us anything and I shouldn’t even be in the store. I apologized again for forgetting my wallet. My boyfriend tried to assure him that we (both late 20’s/early 30’s) were indeed over-age and we’d have to come back later. The guy snapped at us again and said that we both “Looked pretty young to him and shouldn’t even be in the store without ID.” I apologized again and we left.

Okay, I get it. I should have had my ID on me and I should have checked my wallet before coming in the store, it’s the guy’s job to make sure people aren’t trying to buy booze underage. Totally understandable. But we were 100% fine with not being able to purchase anything and were okay with coming back later. I even apologized for them having to re-stock the stuff we brought up to the counter.

Maybe the cashier guy was having a bad day. But people forget their wallets sometimes. I don’t know what else I was supposed to do at that point beyond apologizing and agreeing to leave? Anyway, I don’t think we’ll be coming back anytime soon, there are a dozen other places nearby with a better selection and nicer people.

Cub Liquor used to be one of the best places to go in Bloomington to buy liquor...not anymore!
The selection has dwindled over the years and the prices have crept up. I think they are trying to capitalize off of people who are already there doing their grocery shopping.
But savvy shoppers know where to go for their imbibing needs in Bloomington (Total Wine, Sid's, and Sam's).
Don't be gouged here!

Their staff is very rude and unfriendly.

Poor service. The older employees are very rude to customers, especially anyone with skin darker than butcher's paper, and the younger employees don't really know what is in stock. The specials don't make up for the attitude, so there is absolutely no reason to shop here.

Rochelle is very rude, instead helping as a customer representative should. She refused to check me out, snatched the wine box away and asked me to go to MGM
