So historical and friendly! My mom and I just got a drink so we can't speak to the food, but the service was outstanding and their outdoor space is amazing! They even allowed us to tour the building. We'll be back!

In my top 10 all time favorite restaurants. Everything is good. I've never had a bad meal here. My favorite dish has to be the pork loin. The specials are always on point. The food is fresh not the canned and frozen stuff chains tend to use.

We just took our staff to this historic property where we enjoyed wonderful steak, chicken, and salmon dinners; cooked to perfection and served by efficient and friendly staff. We loved dining within walls of early 1800's timbers and hand-made bricks - how charming. The owner, John, shared with us a bit of the property's history, showed us the upstairs and the wine cellar. It was an evening enjoyed by all. My staff voted it the best holiday dinner choice we have ever made.

Excellent service and delicious brunch! We loved seeing the exposed original timber, the historical artifacts and photos, and the fresh ingredients. You may dine inside or outdoors. We had the eggs benedict with salmon patties (drool worthy!), bread pudding and ice cream (which is made there). The chef came out to check on the guests, and our server was warm and welcoming. After we stuffed ourselves, we took a walk along the historic bridge near the restaurant. Come here if you enjoy nature and great food at reasonable prices.

Cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. I was lucky enough to win a gift certificate, and my husband and I enjoyed one of the best meals we've had in years. The portions are just the right size, the salmon and chop were cooked to perfection. I have no idea how they got their speatzle so light and fluffy, but my homemade ones are never going to be good enough again. And the homemade honey ice cream. Mhmmm. Completely worth an hour of beautiful driving to eat here.

The food and service were fantastic, but the location was what really made this memorable. The owner gave us a rundown of the history of the building and generously allowed our party to wander around checking out the old architecture before our meal. Very cool location!

Absolutely fabulous dining experience. Central European dishes masterfully prepared. Excellent wine. Tucked away in woodsy area on other side of canal from historic village. Friendly committed passionate owner.

Overall a great dining experience. Cozy bar area for drinks and dinner if you want. Regular dining exceptional also, upstairs or down. The food is like nothing else around, with the German heratige and the new additions to the menu of New Orleans is spectacular. The Bourbon Street pasta is a must try.

Away from the beaten path but well worth following the GPS to their door. The menu is different with daily specials that will please you. Entertainment is available but check specific times on their web site. My wife and I targeted Canal Tavern to wind up our day of touring to celebrate our 54th wedding anniversary and we were very pleased with there kindness, attention to detail and good service not to mention the good food. Enjoy!

Fantastic food and the staff hustles like nobody's business. This is a place to put on your Zoar-area visit list. Reservations not necessary, but recommended on the busier celebratory holidays. It's worth the short drive from Akron/Canton. I wish I had photos to share of this canal-era building.

The servers and staff were very friendly, helpful, and intuitive. I started my meal with a glass of cold water, which was clear and crisp. I then ordered the blueberry mule, which had just the right amount of tang. For food, I ordered the sauerkraut balls, which came with a dill sour cream. These are the best I've ever had!!! For my entrée I ordered the crusted meatloaf, which came over a tasty potato pancake and broccolinni covered with a savory and salty gravy. This is a must for your trip to the area.

Very intimate atmosphere and the food is top notch. I've never been there and had something that didn't completely blow me away! Staff is amazing as well. This is our absolutely favorite restaurant in all of Ohio.

I dropped by the Canal Tavern for lunch with my father today while home for the Christmas/New Year Holidays. While nice, the photos on the website do not do the picturesque beauty in and around the restaurant justice-one needs to visit to get the full experience. We dined overlooking the Tuscarawas River and were able to watch the abundant wildlife play while we ate the Chicken Schnitzel the Tavern was debuting today as a lunch special. After inquiring about our meals, the chef informed us that we were the first paying customers for the dish. I hope it becomes a regular item as it was fabulous. It was served over Spätzle and alongside a generous portion of fresh green beans.

The attentiveness of the servers could not have been better (my iced tea could scarcely reach the bottom of the glass before being topped off). Combined with the warm and inviting atmosphere one expects to find in a quiet Nineteenth Century German-American village, it left me looking forward to my next visit.

Atmosphere and food were fantastic. Portions were large. A take home box was needed . My husband finally got the rare steak he has been wanting.

Awesome. We stopped in for brunch, some of the best eggs benedict I've ever eaten with pulled pork for $5! Awesome drinks. The server was awesome. So good.
