Surf Break Cafe

This is a MUST STOP! The food is so good and a healthy choice. We had the Puerto wrap and surf wrap, lilikoi tea, and pineapple tea. Everything was delicious and fresh! What a pleasant surprise it was to find this place in the middle of nowhere as we were passing through. Inside, they offer fresh baked treats as well as a few local goodies.

Wow, wow, wow! I don't usually post photos of food BUT this is hands down the best FRENCH TOAST I have ever had... Thank you, Ireland! Your culinary creation was so very delicious, with and without the syrup. The Triple Crown was like a pressed Cuban with breakfast food, it too was delicious. This is an adorable cafe with nice and quaint seating areas (indoors and out), good prices and a lovely staff. Finding this place was such a pleasant and welcomed surprise! Stop by if you're in the area or near the Akaka Falls. We definitely will, when we return.

I recommend the Machado smoothie! As well as their amazing breakfast burrito and wrap! 5 stars all the way around service was wonderful a must go place for a smoothie or breakfast! Very cozy

Good spot to get a coffee. Bright and spacious cafe with plenty of seating. Free wifi available for customers. Good prices for breakfast burritos, sandwiches, and paninis. The grilled burritos are delicious. They also have fresh fruit smoothies.

It’s hard to find a place in Hilo that opens early so make this your morning spot! Food is delicious, people are chill, and coffee is great!

Seems to have moved due to pandemic...worth tracking down if still in business.
Later 4/22 we did find the replacement Cafe at Honomuu on the way to Akaka Falls 14 miles North of Hilo....go hungry and get Lunch....!!

Stopped here for lunch on the way to Akaka Falls after finding it on Google maps and it was a perfect choice! Cute, funky cafe with delicious sandwiches. We had the Surf Club wrap, the grilled Puerto and the grilled Spinach Artichoke — all yummy! Highly recommend!

Great lunch spot after visiting Akaka Falls. The iced lattes are delicious and taste like actual coffee and not just the milk. The wraps are a great portion size and very tasty. Definitely recommend for a quick pit stop!

Ate here multiple times during our month in Honomu. Good grilled burritos and drinks.

Great shop, quiet outside seating, wonderful coffee drinks, teas and smoothies. Fun and clean atmosphere.

Laid back atmosphere and good different kinds of coffee with the possibility to have something to eat/snack. Didn't try the food. Service was nice at the front and place was half full with a mix of students on laptops and tourists having lunch. We've walked through Hilo for 20 minutes and this was one of the few coffee bars we saw and gave it a try. Definitely a place to check out if you want to go to a coffee bar.

Quiet place with great food and a great atmosphere. Perfect food stop after visiting the Akaka Falls. Lots of good options and good coffee!

Espresso as it should be with thick crema and lots of coffee flavors! Not burnt and made to perfection!

An unassuming American style restaurant. Excellent salads (particularly with raspberry vinaigrette dressing) and wraps. Staff were very friendly and one young woman was interesting with international travels. Overall, not fancy, good value, great tasting.

Great food, relaxed atmosphere. Everything is made to order. Very fresh. The homemade ice cream was some of the best we've had.

Don't be fooled by the lackluster outward appearance, the espresso was legit. A properly pulled dark Italian roast shot, with a moderate amount of crema. Not bad for $3. Food looked good too, but we only had coffee.

Sooo I was checking google reviews for this place because most places I have eaten at on the big Island... Hasn't been... The best to say the least.

So I saw a few reviews on here that mentioned the breakfast burritos as being "the best I ever had"... Wow! Bold statement! I figured these were reviews that were prompted by the owners or something of that nature.

I had to find out for myself... Well the breakfast burritos are amazing... To say the least.

Rest assured, if you eat here you won't be disappointed.

We eat here every time we take family/friends to Akaka Falls. Their smoothies are excellent, and I really enjoy "The Grom," one of their breakfast burritos.

The iced coffee is solid. The breakfast burritos were amazing, not Southern California level but fantastic. Prices are good compared to other Hawaiian places, everything is expensive.
