Could not ask for a better welcome. Hostesses handed out treat samples at the front door and Kona coffee samples a little further up. Soooo many delicious choices. Do not pass up the sandwich / ice cream counter in the back.

Only spent a short time there but it was fun. Watched them making candy and even had some free samples. Chinese new year decorations were awesome

I think it was my father in law that introduced me to these folks, and I’ve been ordering from them ever since. In an odd twist of fate, I had sent a couple boxes to my sister in Alabama, within hours of her receiving them, I found myself at Big Island Candies flagship in Hilo. Haven’t been to Hilo in decades, so we had to stop by. Naturally I grabbed a few more boxes for friends back in CA. Not only delicious, they make great gifts.

We stopped by on a Hoppa-on Hoppa-off tour and enjoyed the samples of cookies, chocolates and Kona coffee! Try the Ube Pie cookies, they are phenomenal!

The best gift from the islands to share with anyone who appreciates a quality cookie, brownie, chocolate, coffee, or a combination of them all! Honolulu cookie co tries to make a similar product but don’t be fooled — this one is no ka oi! The gift assortment boxes are the best way to try all the different sweets. I particularly love the dark chocolate dipped shortbread, and any of the brownies. You really can’t go wrong with any of them though.

This is a magical and delicious place! I am so grateful i bumped into it. The biscuits with chocolate are amaizing! You also get the chance to see how the goodies are made. Congratulations for all the atmosfere created here!

Their seasonal and holiday displays are Simply Amazing!! This is a must stop to see🤩, and your always greeted by a friendly hostess, who offers a sample of their delicious cookies and coffee. They have the BEST shortbread cookies, and ohhh, SO very fresh😋

Holy treat emporium, batman! This place is an establishment that draws in tons of tourists and for good reason. Incredible assortment of chocolate, macadamia everything, cookies, and more.

Founded in 1977 in Hilo, HI, Big Island Candies' flagship store and factory is located on Hawaii Island though they have expanded by opening a retail store at the world's largest outdoor mall, Ala Moana Center on the island of Oahu. Not on either island? Mail ordering is your only other option.

PRODUCTS:
Their signature product is individually-wrapped, rectangular-shaped shortbread cookies in a handful of flavors, available plain or dipped in a variety of chocolate flavors. Other items include brownies, manju, biscotti, chocolate candies and ground coffee.

THE GOODS:
Macadamia Nut Shortbread - Milk Chocolate Dipped
These are my favorite. The cookies are buttery, crunchy and diagonally-dipped in milk chocolate which is another signature design of theirs. Sold in small, medium and large boxes.

Harumi's Hawaiian Salt Cookies
A box of these were gifted to my mom by friends. Harumi Kurihara is a celebrity homemaker/television personality from Japan, often referred to as the "Martha Stewart of Japan". She collaborated with Big Island Candies and produced this beautifully-packaged giftbox of round, individually-wrapped shortbread cookies enhanced with sea salt. No only does the sea salt add extra crunch but does wonders on the palate.

A cool little experience if in the area. My littles really enjoyed seeing the ladies put together the goodies. Loved how they greet you with samples.

Free samples, mostly cookie type stuff, I didn't see hard candies or shave ice but a nice stop lots of room l.

If you love cookies and snacks this is the place for you. If you’re visiting or if you live in Hilo, you need to check this place out. Cookies, mochi, brownies, ice cream and drinks. They have a viewing area, where you actually can see how they make their products. There’s lots friendly staff and they greet you with a sample when you first walk in. And there’s lots of free parking and you might Google Map the location. There’s lots of sides roads to get there. Recommend!

This was a tour bus stop in Hilo. You can view candy being made and the quality and variety of the gift boxes are tasty. Store was decorated nicely for the holidays. Plenty of parking in their free lot.

Buy the shortbread cookies and layer it with some rocky road chocolate bark. Yum!
The Portuguese sausage in a sweet bread roll along with a smoothie from the snack counter inside was a delicious quick tummy fill.

Very nice place, clean environment and friendly staff. Lots of Hawaiian chocolate candies to choose from. Open floor and while shopping and tasting the samples you can even watch how they make the chocolate candies on their production line. Nice place. Good place to bring your kids to watch the production. Weekdays only.

We love this place. We go every year to buy holiday boxes to send to family on the mainland. Just wish they had the samples out so you could try all the different flavors but Covid put an end to Thant. The boxes are always beautiful. They had a great assortment this year’
