Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area

Hapuna Beach is a must visit place! It has been ranked best beach in the US, and it lives up to its name. The beach is easy to access, there are a lot of amenities like showers, foot wash stations, washrooms, fountains, water bottle filler station, and picnic area. The beach is beautiful, about 1/2 mile long so lots of places to set up an umbrella and enjoy the view. Waves were about 8-10 feet high (Nov). Definitely bring a boogie/body board. There's two lifeguard towers keeping watch over the beach goers as well.

Beautiful beach with easy access for all. Warm, calm Waters protected by lifeguards. Some of the softest sand I've ever felt. Great facilities.

Hapuna is a beautiful beach. Lots of shallow areas for the kids to play in, and big beautiful waves for boogie boarding or just relaxing. The grounds are well maintained by staff and there are also lifeguards on duty. There are restrooms and picnic tables as well.

Make sure you pay your parking and entrance fee at the machine!

Large expansive beach area with mainly nice sand a some lava outcroppings. Large parking lot but vague directions for park fees or if a National park pass worked 🤷‍♀ waves were good for body surfing and boogie boarding. Too rough for much else. We went on a Friday and it was very busy - we parked in over- flow parking. There were many beach umbrellas - I’m sad I didn’t take a picture. Nice beach to walk along with life guards posted along the way. Strong undertows and huge waves.

This beach is amazing. The sand was the most amazing sand I have ever felt. There's lots of room on the beach even though there will be many people there. Plenty of parking. Bring a body board because there's great waves.

This is my favorite beach it's perfect for families it's super clean it has restrooms showers outdoors showers to rinse sand off plenty of parking white sandy beach no water shoes needed in the water nice waves for body surfing or boogie boarding walking trails with beautiful views I could go here everyday

This was by far the BEST beach we found to take our children! Our kids are great swimmers, but had never swam with big waves before. This beach was sandy and didn’t have all the lava rock (which was our main concern with other beaches) that the other beaches had. It was busy but did not feel crowded. Showers and bathrooms were up and running. We spent a full day here ended up going back and spending our last full vacation day here as well. A great place to relax, let the kids play in the waves, swim, and play in the sand. The water is clear blue. There is also a lifeguard on site.

One of the best beaches I’ve been to in my life!!! I love it so much…. Easy access to beach and ample parking with restrooms and shower to rinse off in after swimming.

I hate to even post about this beach because it is SO NICE, I don't want anyone else to go here. It is a state park so it cost to park and enter, but it is worth it. This IS the most beautiful beach I have ever been to. It is like an episode of Gilligan's Island. There were not too many people there, especially early, you can sit under the trees ON THE BEACH! The water was warm, and perfectly clear. Lots of fish and every now and then a turtle swimming by or hanging out in the water off shore. B it was a perfect day in Hawaii. Nicest beach in Kona. You are supposed to pay for parking so get your slip. Nice beach for boarding and body surfing. Not a snorkeling area. Lotta big birds around. A very nice cardinal was there too taking a bath.

Nice sandy beach with minimal rocks. Beautiful view of the ocean. Great for boogie boarding as there is big waves. Please don’t surf though as it gets in the way of people boogie boarding leading to multiple crashes because you go across the wave while everyone else just goes towards the shore.

Not a lot of parking but an amazing, simple beach for families with locals hanging out as well. No glitz and glamour just clean safe beach time with 3-4 people our snorkeling. I’ll be back!

Very nice, clean and clear water beach with facilities. Picnic tables and BBQ set up, just beautiful. Never seen chickens at a beach. I guess they needed to tan also;).

This beach was beautiful. Very accessible. Lots of sand and not a lot of rocks on the beach. I know a lot fo the beaches on this island are covered in lava rock, but this one was not. Plenty of space to set up on the beach. Lots of awnings and canopies for lunch or parties. Plenty of bathrooms and shower areas. This beach is well worth the drive.

Well worth the drive up the coast for a terrific Hawaiian beach. Lots of white sand, lifeguards, bathrooms, etc., as you might expect when visiting a state park. Great swimming, snorkeling, and waves for everyone. We saw a sea turtle and there were supposedly some spinner dolphins in the area just before we arrived.

Very beautiful beach! Perfect for families with children. The water is clean and crystal clear. We had a lot of fun here and did not want to leave! Here, you find restrooms, picnic tables, trees that provide shade, showers, and a lot of parking space. It was worth the drive!

Fantastic, beautiful beach with soft white coral sand. Definitely one of the best public beaches I've ever been to in the United States. Arrive early for guaranteed parking and know that at peak times of the day and season, this beach does get relatively crowded and parking availability can get very scarce. My two teenage boys boogie boarded on the left margin on the beach, never straying far from a group of Lufthansa stewardesses who elected to sunbathe topless. No one wants tanlines anyway, right?

Very, very nice beach. Was pretty windy and sand was blowing on us but there is a grass area to lay on as well

Very nice family-friendly beach. Lifeguards on duty really stay vigilant looking out for swimmers. Restrooms seem to be cleaned regularly and are tidy. A MUST while on west side of island ... and definitely worth the drive from the east side.
