Hawaiian Style Cafe - Waimea

Triple WOW for this local breakfast and lunch spot. If you love breakfast, this is the place to go. I had the Portuguese sausage breakfast with the pancakes, and my husband had Da Big Mok, both of whom were amazing. We're going back to try some of the other local favorites.

A friend suggested that if we wanted to have an extraordinary breakfast or lunch, we should plan to eat at the Hawaiian Style Cafe in Waimea. On Saturdays, Waimea has a great farmer’s market, do we decided to combine our desire to support the local farmers and check out the cafe. It’s a cash only restaurant so don’t go unless you get to an ATM first! However the food was outstanding. They serve GIANT sized portions of pancakes, omelets and all kinds of sandwiches. They also serve an iced coffee with whipped cream and coconut flakes that was better than any gelato or shaved ice I’ve eaten on the Big Island. The cafe has a brilliant system for handling the crowds who come to their restaurant. Outside the entrance, you sign into an iPad, with your name, cellphone etc snd then get texted and called when your table is ready. They apologized for being understaffed but, trust me, it’s worth the wait. We ordered their Volcano Omelette but asked-to please hold the green peppers since my wife’s allergic and I ordered their french toast. Had I ordered their pancakes, I’d still be eating it since it’s so large, it must be over 14 inches in diameter! Our brunch was FANTASTIC and we were delighted to have a great Hawaiian Style lunch!

Legit the best Loco Moco I have ever had. Had that great small town/real food feel. The beef patty flavor and gravy was honestly thee best I’ve had from all the islands. CASH only spot so bring the green and don’t forget if you get the loco moco request green onions it makes it :) you’re welcome

First pass through, got here 45 min before close and they had run out of haupia for their pancakes. I thought I would die. But...they suggested the churro french toast so I begrudgingly ordered it and WOW. Sooooo good. Also got a side of hash browns and they were cooked EXACTLY PERFECTLY. Crispy all over the outside and tender on the inside. Heaven. Hubby got the korean chicken and loved loved loved it.

The following week, came back and actually ordered the churro french toast but this time with a side of haupia sauce and the same hash browns....heaven #2! Hubby got the Hawaiian style loco moco with 2 hamburger patties and said he "can't eat the whole thing" but you know he did!

You'll likely have wait a bit for a table. The first time we looked it up and had the option to be added to the Yelp waitlist but chose not to. That was a mistake...when we got there we had to go ahead and sign up on the kiosk waitlist, which is the Yelp waitlist, so we could have been higher up. The 2nd time we went there wasn't the option to sign up ahead, meaning no one was waiting. We got there and they just started to have people do it...so we did but we got in within 5 minutes. Just be patient. It's worth it!

Food was absolutely delicious. We had the Loco Moco and Haupia Pancakes. Portions were so huge. Thankfully they donate leftovers to the local pig farm as there was no way we could eat it all. This place is a must go!

An amazing Hawaiian restaurant! The waitstaff were wonderful. There were 4 in our party. All of our breakfasts were excellent!! The Macadamia Banana pancakes were the best I have ever had. They beat the ones we had at Lava Java hands down. The portions are generous. The restaurant is clean and efficiently run. Don’t hesitate to eat here!

Absolutely amazing food! Very great pancakes and waffles, were very fluffy, and I highly enjoyed the omelette. Highly recommend!

The food is wonderful. Huge portions and great tasting. Both pancake n waffle are delicious. Hash browns is just right. Very crispy yet not too greedy. 😋

Had a great breakfast here. Definitely a locals place which tells you all you need to know. Be ready for large portions of really good food. We will return on our next trip to the Big Island.

I can't say enough amazing things about this place. First of all every one of the employees is friendly, courteous and helpful.....but then again we found that to be the case with all of the locals as long as you treat them with respect. That being said, of you are lucky enough to get April as your server, you are in for a treat. She was absolutely fantastic. Now to the food......the Haupia Pancakes seriously create an out of body experience. I've never tasted a combination of flavors like that. We checked out of the hotel early on our last day just so we could go back and have the pancakes one more time before our flight left. Now lets move onto this version of Loco Moco we had called the Moco-saurus (or something like that). It was all the meats (burger patty, spam, chicken cutlet and kalua pork). Never in a million years would I have put this combination of ingredients together and sad to say because of that I would have never eaten something so flat out delicious. Awe man, my mouth is watering thinking about it. Make sure you ask for some Hawaiian chili pepper water to go with it, you won't be disappointed. Make sure you bring cash because this is a CASH ONLY establishment. They do have an ATM inside though.

Best breakfast on Big Island! Heck it might be the best breakfast in Hawaii (or possibly the whole USA…maybe even the world). It was so good that my friend and I decided to go back the next day! Generous portions, attentive and friendly staff, and delicious food. What more could you ask for.

Very good local diner. Had the steak and eggs with the side upgraded to Hawaiian fried rice. Highly recommend, everything was excellent.

Fun staff, clean place, yummy breakfast!!! If you're tired of hotel food, you MUST make it a point to dine here. The haupia pancakes are legendary. Very reasonably priced with huge portions.

Huge portion sizes and everything we tried was tasty. Soft and fluffy french toast, uniquely delicious haipua pancakes.
The volcano omelette was good with the salsa and some hot sauce, and I'm usually not a fan of hash browns but I just loved their crispiness and non-greasiness. Overall a great local experience!

One of the staff at Fairmont Orchid recommended this place. We absolutely loved our breakfast and found the food to be very reasonably priced. We had the kahlua pork omelette and the pancakes and it was fantastic. Huge portions as well. Come early, hungry , and bring cash!

Food was amazing. My boyfriend and I should have split one omelette since it came with so much food! Server was incredibly nice. So thankful my hotel concierge recommended it!
