The park has been around for many years and the playground has been completely renovated.

The equipment is very innovative and impressive and the kids love it. Definitely a massive improvement over the outdated equipment that it replaced.

There are many other amenities at the park including a 9 hole golf cart, tennis courts, a boat ramp and picnic pavilions.

There is also a small train called the Pokey Smokey which runs on Saturday and Sunday from 11 to 3 for a $2 cost per person.

We checked this park out on a whim and now it's my twins fav. Playground. There are tons of things to climb, play, spin, swing on. Really something for all ages and e try kind of movement preferences. Ground is mostly dry and soft even after rain. We find there are usually engaged adults and fun kids to play with everytime we go. Clean bathrooms near by the playground is an added plus.

Best city park in Hampton Roads! Seated on the Elizabeth River with wide open green space, lots of trees and picnic cabanas. Beautiful garden with duck pond, and the steam train for the kids. So many great spots! Also a free boat launch and Sailboat launch! Piers for fishing too! Great park for all ages.

I had the opportunity for the first time to go to Portsmouth City Park in Portsmouth, VA; while looking for a quiet spot to work on my new book, entitled, "The Key, - The Game of Life." I decided to venture to Portsmouth, VA; where some of my friends live who often talk about how nice this park is. So, I went to see for myself and was impressed. The only problem I had was as you enter the park, you pass a hugh Cemetery. Which I wasn't comfortable with, so I immediately slowed down and asked a dog walker for directions, thinking somehow I had made a wrong turn. After being told, "To keep driving," Walla! There was this beautiful park which included a Goff Course, a Hugh surrounding River or Lake, a Tennis Court, a Boat Ramp, several Tables for Cookouts and Parties, a Fishing Pier and much more. I also found my very own bench to sit and absorb the elements I needed to Create! Once the sun got too hot, I still found a table under the shade to accommodate my need. If you are ever in Portsmouth, VA: Please take the kids out for a fun filled day to unwind, let their hair down and soak up the sun. Make sure you throw something on the grill to make your day more enjoyable! So, I give Portsmouth City Park a High Five and a Thumbs up! I thoroughly enjoyed several hours working on my book and I also caught the tail end of a beautiful Wedding. The environment was relaxed, very peaceful yet fun filled. The most important part was to see so many children having a good time. With all the things going on in the world today, our children need that time to breathe and relax. You need to spend more time with your children now more than ever because they are suffering from various emotional and mental problems that could be rectified if, - you as Parents take the time with your own children. Your children are our future generation. And just think, "If things continue at the rate it's going our future doesn't look good at all." So, put down the Video games, stop allowing them to listen to so much foul music full of degrading vulgar lyrics and turn off the Television sometimes as well. Have a good old fashion conversation with the entire family together ❤

Love Is the Key!
It's the Key to breaking the cycle of Hatred, Poverty, Crime, Homelessness, Gun and Gang Violence and more! But the Real problem is people have left God, He is our Creator and Life Giver! Instead, you have picked up all the traits of the Devil. "How do you still expect things to go on as planned?".. Never may that happen! Pray with your family. Teach them about God and not about Guns!
You're tired of all the Mass Shootings aren't you? Then, the only solution there is is, - "God's Kingdom," the One I was taught to pray for in the "Our Father Prayer," You know the words, - don't you? "Let your Kingdom Come! Let your Will be done on earth as it is in the Heaven!" It's time to wake up people before it's too late!!

We’ve been to Portsmouth city park only a few times so far but have enjoyed it every time. I have a 3 and a 1 year old and there is plenty to do for both of them. They have 2 different playground areas and plenty of places to walk around. My kids have a blast and never want to leave. It is also very well maintained.

A beautiful family oriented place to go and play, spend time with the kids and to get good exercise for the day. Enjoy a walk by the river front, or sit on a bench and watch the boats or feed the birds. Just enjoy the atmosphere and try to take in the beautiful friendship gardens, or maybe take on a game of golf to sharpen your game with friends. Truly a great place to be. Nice place to view the sunsets, and the waterfowl a plenty!

We just moved here from overseas. Bottom line: this park is great. The playground is the best, well maintained that my kid has ever been to. It's has shade. Seriously. I kids train on the weekend. The view is great, plenty of water views. A fishing pier. A boat launch. Clean picnic tables. Plenty of trash cans. One nit-picky comment: no sidewalks for walking to other areas in the park. Minor issue. Overall well done Portsmouth.

I've been visiting this park, since I was a child. Pokey Smokey remains the main staple of this place, for me (as I love steam locomotives). But this is a cozy park. If you get here early in the morning, just as the sun is rising (around 8am), it's absolutely beautiful here. The park has a nice view of the river, quiet fishing piers, a serene walking area through Friendship Gardens (again, beautiful in the early morning, as the sun light is coming through the trees), and much more. It also is good for exercising, as it has a bike path, walking path, tennis court, golf course and 2 playgrounds for families, as well as gazebos with grilling areas for cookouts.

I love it more now than ever. It's a lot of things that children can play on or in engage with whether they are small or older children. Even adults can play and have fun. And there are plenty of areas parents or guardians can sit that is very close to the playground. Plenty of shading as well. Restrooms could use better maintenance.

It's a real nice park! Very clean and open with a great view of the channel. There are plenty of pavilions and places to sit and admire the surroundings.

There are three playgrounds and a small skate baord park there too. There's also a fun little train that takes you around a winding track. It's a quality train and track.

Further down are ramps for unloading water crafts.

The rest rooms are clean too! infact, I was surprised how clean they were.

The park is definitely worth checking out!

I play golf here and go to the driving range. Prices are great and the staff are incredible. Extremely friendly and a family type atmosphere. I am usually there 3 to 4 times a week, so that should tell you something!

Great place for all families to spend the day. Excellent boat ramp for any boat to include a separate boat ramp for sail boats. You will need your rubber boots if you launch at peak of high tide. There is also a very big playground area for the children, picnic areas, a fishing dock and public restroom.

This place is awesome! Took my babies here after daycare and had a clean restroom. Plus you can have a picnic right in the middle so you can still watch the kids. Mine was too busy to eat.

It was ballin on the water. Event for the kids and their family and community. 2000 children were given backpacks with school supplies in them. Portsmouth fire and police were playing against each other and other guests. Food was good, I enjoyed and everyone had fun. Thanks to all participants and sponsors. 👍👍👍

First time to this park. Nice playground areas for kids. Gazebos were clean and they had some historic monuments also. A little skateboard park also. There's a fishing pier too for the summertime.

It's a great little park. It has a large playground for families with small children. It has a fishing pier and boat ramp. It has covered picnic areas with grills, etc. There's also a golf course next to it.

This park has upgraded since the pandemic. There are so many neat things and literally I have to run right behind my two year old just to make sure she doesn't get ran over by the bigger kids there. Ice cream truck is there you can feed the ducks near the pond they have a tennis court you can walk and see some water it's really cool and you can spend a really nice day there with your family.
