First trip to the Highlands and we stayed at the Highlander Mountain House to see a concert with the amazing Stephen Wilson Jr.. Our room was in the Bunk House and we loved the space and balcony. Loved the elevated rustic charm of this place! The rooms have personality as does the main house common areas. Everyone we came in contact with was friendly and helpful. A special mention to Catherine in the dining area. We were extremely excited to get a great seat for the performance and Catherine was so gracious and kind in making that happen!!! See pic for proof. We will be back to enjoy the area and when we do, we will stay here again for sure!

Both HMH & Ruffed Grouse deserve 5 stars all around. Each room is unique and comfortable. The food at Ruffed Grouse is always delicious with impeccable service. The front desk staff are super friendly and helpful. You can’t beat the location, right downtown, walking distance to anything you might want or need. We look forward to visiting a few times each year.

Ate lunch here. It was 5 *'s!
I had the beer cheese soup and the caesar salad with grilled chicken and my husband had the turkey avocado wrap. The food was fabulous 😋

It’s time to add a food review to this GMB. My wife, Donna and I had the pleasure of dining with Chef Rodney at the Ruffed Grouse to celebrate our anniversary. All I can say is WOW! We chose from the great wine list and food menu, but Chef Rodney delivered the wine and saw we were waiting for food and magically a bread plate with chibatta and lavash appeared with local honey, butter and jam. We were amazed at how something so simple could be so great. Our server, Jennifer and the chef were so friendly. We had an opportunity to try another dish he recommended and were amazed. I asked my beautiful wife what her favorite dish was and she said everything, and hitch included the oysters, bacon wrapped dates, corn ribs and shishito peppers, and the double
Cheeseburger. I hope everyone else sees this review. This place is amazing!

Adorable hotel on the Main street in downtown Highlands. My room was immaculate and stylish with a very comfortable bed. The lobby is cozy with a wood burning fireplace. The hotel staff was polite and welcoming. After I checked out and was well on my drive home, they called me to let me know that I left my AirPods in my room. I really didn’t want to turn around to get them because I would miss tucking my son into bed. The GM very kindly offered to mail them back to my home instead. I will stay at the Highlander every time I come back to Highlands! Book now, you won’t regret it.

What an absolutely magical three nights in the Highlands! My wife and I got married on a Saturday and headed to the Highlander for a mountain retreat. The property was everything we were hoping for and more. We made it in time for Sunday brunch at the Ruffed Grouse, which was outstanding. We will definitely be back to try out dinner, but I'm sure it is fantastic.

The property itself is lovely. The decor, atmosphere, staff, rooms, and amenities were top-notch. We enjoyed fireside coffee in the mornings and lounging in the sun around the property during the day. Great conversations were had at the cozy bar with guests and staff alike! Cheers to Alastair and Cody (and the entire team) for being outstanding hosts!

The Highlander is within walking distance of everything that the Highlands offers. We highly recommend hiking up to Satulah mountain from Main Street.

The Highlander is upscale and refined - but authentic because it feels like it belongs in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Lovely stay! Accommodations were charming & comfortable. Perfect location for walking to downtown dining & retail. Had we not made advance dining reservations elsewhere, we would have definitely dined at the Ruffled Grouse. Relaxing by the fireplaces & enjoying a glass of wine was a highlight. Thank you to mgmt & staff for such a pleasurable stay!!!

We originally had a booking at a sister property, but we were dissatisfied with our room when we arrived. Fortunately, the Highlander Mountain House had availability and we were able to swap our reservation. The staff/management went above and beyond what I thought was necessary to accommodate us, so that was greatly appreciated. The property itself was great. Clean, good location, fair price (good coffeee..) I would highly recommend staying here. The rooms are on the smaller side, if that matters to you, but that does not matter to me or my wife during vactions.

We chose to come to Highlands because of the Highlander Mountain House. A friend of ours told us about it and we started following on Instagram. We were charmed, as it appeared to be reminiscent of an English country Inn. We were a bit hesitant to stay as we feared it could be loud, due to the fact that they have a dining room and bar with rooms above and also host music concerts. We talked to Audrey on the phone and she assured us it would be fine. Our stay did not disappoint, we were greeted by a friendly staff who personally showed us to our quaint English style room, which was impeccably cleaned with all of the charming old world details, from the shower to the wingback chair to the balcony overlooking Main Street. Our dinner was first rate ( a little steep in price for the quantity) we took a fan so sleeping was very quiet and cozy. Being an early riser, I went down for a cup of coffee in the morning and found a lovely fire crackling, lights dim and lots of candles lit and enjoyed a delicious cup of coffee by the fire. We will most certainly be back. Such and beautiful diversion to a hotel room!!! We did not eat breakfast here as it seemed pretty expensive and we are not heavy breakfast eaters.

GORGEOUS - Right in the heart of Highlands! This hotel is so unique and impeccably decorated. Floral wallpapers juxtaposed with carefully curated taxidermy create an incredible moodiness that is cozy and inspiring. The sheets on the comfy beds are buttery soft and my room, which was in the bunk house, had everything I needed including a porch with 3 chairs outside to enjoy the mountain air. The staff was incredibly sweet and accommodating. The restaurant, the Ruffed Grouse, had excellent food and a great selection of beers, wines, and cocktails. There is so much seating outside and a fire pit. Perfect for a romantic weekend, a reunion with friends, or just a get away. My college friends went for the weekend, and we had THE BEST TIME! Can't wait to go back!

We had a wonderful stay at HMH in early October—from the warm and welcoming check-in to our Sunday brunch at The Ruffed Grouse before heading home. The location was perfect to explore the Main St shops and restaurants. We also ventured along the Greenway, which is accessible behind the inn. Drinks at the bar after dinner Saturday night. Relaxing with music in the room thanks to a record player and album options. All of the details designed to encourage you to stay and relax awhile. Fabulous weekend. Highly recommend.

This was the best lodging experience we had in awhile! Can’t rave enough about the staff, ambiance, and overall lodging experience. We will definitely be coming back soon! Tip: try to staying during one of their concert series shows. We got lucky and booked during the October show and the artist was awesome!

Highly recommend staying!

We had dinner at The Ruffed Grouse this weekend. The food was wonderful. It's so refreshing to have a meal in Highlands that doesn't involve tons of carbs and cheese. The salad was wonderful and fresh (I made some dietary changes and they accommodated perfectly) and the poached lobster was tender and flavorful. I can't say enough about the atmosphere! We will definitely be back.

We chose this hotel because of its authentic rustic look in the pictures on line. When we were checked in and shown to our rooms we were very disappointed. Instead of being in the hotel we were out in the bunkhouse. Needless to say the room was very small and not to our liking at all. It was damp, no window treatments and viewed the parking lot.We tried to make the best of the night since we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. The next morning with a bit of hesitation I went to the front desk and spoke to Victoria.
She was very kind and understood our frustration. There was no room to move us to in the main house and offered to see about lodging in a nearby hotel.
We decided to move to the room upstairs with a balcony, at least we could get some fresh air.
Victoria credited us back for the night and brought to the new owner our frustration. This hotel made us feel important. That is very rare and we appreciate all they did.
I recommend this hotel and will revisit again, and definitely will stay in the main house.

The BEST location on the street and phenomenal area out front to sit with a glass of wine or coffee. Don't let lack of closets scare you away LOL. Some rooms have them. After touring other hotels, we were so glad we took a gamble and chose in advance to stay here!! Great staff and cozy unique rooms. Yes, the sink might be in the room near the bed, but that was part of the endearing quality! Not your typical Hyatt/Marriott. We stayed in the main house - not the bunk house - and were glad we did. Would stay there again in a heartbeat!!

Wonderful food! Dogs are allowed at the bar and outside patio, which is a definite plus. Try the Red Pepper and Gouda soup! Amazing! My picky 6 year old ate it all.. even though I ordered it for myself. (I did manage to snag a few bites. It is very good.) I had the goat cheese and spinach salad. It was perfectly tasty. Yum! The ambience is beautiful as well, such a lovely setting and excellent staff. I highly recommend!
