Monells Cafe

As soon as I landed at the Nashville Airport I asked the staff at the Hertz car rental where to go for some good soul food. I'm glad they sent me here. Very kind staff.

I feel like I robbed the place! Coming from Philadelphia and growing up in NJ and NY this place is a steal! So cheap for the amount on my plate.

I might coming back tomorrow morning for the biscuits and gravy... Shame they don't serve it all day! The photo on the wall looks good!

First time in Nashville. Had to try Meat + 2 sides. Had fried chicken, corn pudding and green beans. Very good.

Café Monells is a somewhat rustic experience. It is set up in a small building though I did see on their Facebook page that they are renovating so fingers crossed! There were a lot of tables but the parking was limited. This gave me an impression that the place is frequented by many nearby locals who prefer to walk than drive. Whether you are dining in or taking out, the food will be served on Styrofoam plates (or boxes) with plastic utensils which is something I actually like. You see, I almost always have leftovers so they kind of helped me by giving the box straight away. Debarshi decided to go with a plate (because he can always pack his leftovers with mine).

Their menu was exciting! They had a Weekend Country Breakfast which included:
Smoked sausage, bacon, biscuits & gravy, country ham, fried apples, pancakes, scrambled eggs, hash browns, cheese grits, skillet fried chicken, corn pudding and coffee (got this from their website). However, we were late! By the time we went there, breakfast was over and they were serving their regular menu. It was too bad that we missed this amazing breakfast because I really wanted to have some delicious pancakes. When the server told me, I got a little disappointed and then took a couple of seconds to choose something else. By this time the server got impatient (which was funny because there was no one else in the line behind me, did I tell you, the food is served in line – cafeteria style). So, I quickly got my order in and explained to the nice lady that we are tourists and this is our first time. This really paid off because their attitude changed at once. They talked with me and even recommended us to go the other Monell’s location.

Very good country food. They have fried chicken and catfish on Friday, all the meat and sides are delicious. Great choice for lunch

Chicken and dumplings are serve on Monday.

If you drive a full side truck or SUV you might have difficulty parking since that area is very cramp

The food was cooked to perfection. The place was small, but the people were kind. Everything tasted amazing!

Nice place .food was hot and home style .had chicken and a piece of fried catfish . Staff was friendly .place was immaculately clean .definitely worth the stop

Love this place. Just as good as Monells but if I just want a small meal, there's no waiting on tables, and fruit tea is always available.

This is a meat and three restaurant in the busy, hip, neighborhood of Berry Hill. I was very impressed with the cleanliness and efficiency. The food was good and portions were large. The price was very reasonable and it a solid choice for a pleasant lunch. I especially enjoyed the green bean casserole. Recommended!

I’m from Toronto and this is not only the best dining experience I had in Tennessee but one of the best I’ve ever had period. Super gracious, friendly and attentive staff. Food was absolutely delectable and clearly made with love. The social experience of sitting with strangers like it’s a holiday dinner was something so beautifully rare to experience nowadays. Do yourself a favor and check this restaurant out!

Soooooo delicious! Just what we were looking for after touring Hermitage. Fried chicken was so tender and juicy and crispy. The sides were plentiful and very savory. I recommend the corn pudding. Our favorite though was peach cobbler! Didn't have room for dessert but still ordered it and peach cobbler was perfect and not too sweet. Also, zero wait time, clean tables, and super friendly staff!!

2 Iowa boys driving around Nashville for 35-45 minutes, driving past the packed franchise eateries, when we stumbled across this place....I highly recommend it!

Great home-cooking. The fried chicken and pork chops were delicious. I loved the fried cabbage. The mac and cheese was loved by my youngest, who is a picky eater. The strawberry lemonade complimented the meal and the pecan pie and chocolate cake was a great finally to our lunch!

I had never been in one of these family style restaurants, and you never know who you'll be seated with. Nevertheless, I truly enjoyed the company and the food was delicious. And the young host at the front was very good at his job. It was crazy packed in there, but he managed it very well.

I rarely give out 5 stars... so this place has definitely knocked it out of the park. Best home cooking I've eaten in a long time.. the staff are very kind and the pricing is very cheap for what you get. The only downside of this place is the parking... but it doesn't deserve any less than 5 stars.. the parking to me doesn't affect the experience honestly just cause the food is so good and the staff is so nice. Best thing they have is the chicken an dumplings on Mondays

This was my first time here, and I am SO impressed. The food is amazing, and the guy working was soo nice, loved him! He was wearing a hat with rainbow on it and was working by himself. He deserves a raise 🤌🤯 Food is also cheap for what you get. I will be back shortly!

Greatest Fried Chicken. The staff are the most gracious that you have come to see them and enjoy the food. Neat, clean always. ONE of my favorite places to eat. The prices are not bad either.Granny always said, "You get what you pay for. Well worth evry bite.
