Just outside the main downtown of Wheaton, this unassuming spot is well worth a visit.

Affordable and approachable, the food here is presented deliciously simply and with care.

We've enjoyed the enchiladas, tacos, chimichanga, but my favorite has to be the green chili pork. So rich and flavorful.

Service is as warm as the tortilla chips!

Good friends recommended El Zarape. They were so right.

We were met at the door, warmly welcomed, and walked to a table. Decor was fun and everything was clean. Fresh Guacamole lived up to its name. Fresh and delicious. Tacos Al pastor were savory … some of the best ever. Rice and beans were AMAZING! So so good.

Our waitress was attentive and the host checked in near the end of our meal. When leaving, staff wished us well. What a great team there!!

Great little Mexican restaurant! Good ambiance. Wish it had Mexican music. With excellent food. Only one server! Thats a hugh job for her! We did not need to wait for our meals she try to ve quick with every table.. Wondering if there were others who could have been helping? Dont disinterested. The food wax great.. Restroom was clean but needs maintence to the flooring and plumbing. This worries me when the owner of a prime space and good food doesn't keep up with maintenance.

Went here on Valentines day with my date. Great food, great music, excelent service. 10/10 would recommend. They have big burritos, and staff was friendly.

Excellent food in specific dishes and basic classics! THE MARGARITAS! The best, if you get the premio ~ tres generaciones tequilia ~ this was recommended to me by the lovey waitress early on in my time there and does not disappoint! I've always ordered this one. ~ Pollo en Mole Puebla-Style$13.00 ~ Half chicken simmered in mole sauce is my personal favorite! I also love the jalapeno cream sauce. I love the carnitas. I love the onion and cilantro. My adult kids adore the burgers. ~ There is no better waitress than Maricsa. She has been there for decades, so that is a testament to the place as a whole. The manager Ed warmly greets regular customers. I come from the city to go back to the place that feels like home. I wish they continued the tradition of margaritas 'to go' that was a staple in the pandemic. Like all people and places and things we get to know well over time ~ including ourselves ~ there are imperfections (bathroom!) but I love it there!

Very good food & service!! Will definitely be back! The salsa is excellent, good drinks. Our group had quesadillas, floutas, tacos. the pork was excellent!

Great Mole. If anyone remembers the old Longy's on Roosevelt Road (it was a classic, delicious hole-in-the-wall from way back) El Zarape is that good!

The staff was amazing. Please inside is kind of small but it was very nice.the food was hot and fresh! The salsa was amazing and served warm.

Great food, so casual and low key. Food was fantastic. Hubby had the longy tacos - preferred the beef though both were great. I had the enchiladas and they were also excellent. Loved the warm chips and orange salsa. Great place to stop with parking lot.

It's a small restaurant that serves excellent food. Our server was very busy but also very attentive and friendly. We had reservations for 6:30 for 6 and were actually seated early. Their Patron Margaritas are awesome. I highly recommend this restaurant. We are happy we picked El Zarape to entertain our guests!!!!!!

After passing by this place several times, I went in today and I ordered the chefs special, the food was great, the staff was very attentive, the food arrived quick and fresh, I wish other mexican restaurants were as fast and as good. I have no bad comment about this place. The dessert was very delicious, I got the sopapillas. I spent around $35, which in my opinion is a fair price for all the food I got. If you read my comment, I really recommend this this place, im Mexican and this is authentic Mexican food. Delicious.

Great resturaunt! My wife and I love this place. Everything I have had here was top notch. The last time I had the Huevos Ranchero’s. So good! My wife had tacos and said they were excellent! Highly recommended!

The food, atmosphere and service is great!

Hands-down, the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. Truly felt grandma was back there cooking her famous dishes.

The host and servers were attentive and helpful. Food was great and the margaritas were outstanding. The chicken and spinach enchiladas were tender and flavorful and I loved the jalapeno cream sauce. Others had the carnitas and they were crisp and juicy. They consistently do a great job.

Great food, great service, great price. Little crowded, but the personality of the staff, owner and neighborhood is great as well. I wish it was a little closer so I could enjoy it more often. Oh, and my margarita 😋 was soo good.

My wife wanted a great Tostada dinner on Sept 16th Mexican Independence Day. I was craving a great Burrito. I just drove to El Zarape. Walked in. Told the owner take out. Sat at the little bar. Had a soda. Had the food and within 15 minutes out the door. Just fantastic. Awesome place for authentic Mexican cuisine. Will keep visiting..
