America's Best Contacts & Eyeglasses

Americas Best is a great place. We had an exam and purchased 5 pairs of glasses. Samantha was great. She took alot of time with us and made very good recommendations. So happy we decided to go there for glasses.

I have been going to this America’s Best specifically since I first moved here when I was 11 years old. I am now 30. I am at a loss of words with just how incredible, amazing, kind, compassionate, and empathetic every single person is that works here. Starting at the age of 16, I started having serious problems with my eyesight. I had extreme blurriness and double vision. I have been to almost every eye doctor in Illinois including optometrists, ophthalmologists, neuro-ophthalmologists, The Wheaton Eye Clinic, and The Chicago Eye Institute. No eye doctor was EVER able to help me. The very first ophthalmologist I went to told my parents I was lying. Other ophthalmologists yelled at me and asked me if I was blind and others yelled at me to stop crossing my eyes when I could not help it. I often walked around knocking and banging into things, feeling the wall to move around, and damaged cars. People would ask me why my one eye lens was foggy when I used a fresnel prism. My manager at Sears told me to never wear my glasses because I was expected to look the part working in fine jewelry. And people at my college would wave their arms at me. Many eye doctors sent me to get tested for diabetes. I got tested six times and every time it was negative that I did not have diabetes. Every eye doctor sent me away. They told me they didn’t know why I saw the way I did or what was wrong with my eyes. They all told me to go see someone else while others wanted to operate. I did eye exercises, wore an eye patch, my glasses prescription kept getting changed every month, one eye doctor kept my eyes constantly dilated, and another eye doctor put me on eye drops to prevent glaucoma. But nothing ever worked or helped. I eventually gave up. Getting eye exams caused me anxiety after all the times I was yelled at and sent away. So I decided to suffer and just accepted that my eyesight was what it was. It wasn’t going to change or get any better. And I had fluctuating blindness. Sometimes I could see okay while other days and times all I was able to see was color and light. But as I continued to suffer from headaches, migraines, eye pain, dizziness, and squinting— I went to this America’s Best again. I was miserable. I could not see or read any road signs, I kept having accidents, I could not see taking notes in my college classes, or any book I was reading. It took 14 years of suffering and living with changing fluctuating blindness where some days I was okay while other days I could not see anything at all. I saw Dr. Mlynski who was very caring, compassionate, empathetic, and sympathetic with me. I am a special and extremely rare case. I have one eye that’s nearsighted and my other eye is farsighted. And, I also need trifocals. Dr. Mlynski is the one and only eye doctor I have ever been to who was able to help me. He asked me how my blood sugar was. I immediately called my doctors office. I’m not diabetic, I’m hypoglycemic. My blood sugar was dropping too low. This man was the first and only eye doctor that figured this out over any other optometrist, ophthalmologist, neuro-ophthalmologist, The Wheaton Eye Clinc, and even The Chicago Eye Institute. He was extremely thorough with my eye exams and assessments. And now after 14 years of suffering and living with changing fluctuating blindness, he cured me. He fixed my eyesight. I have never seen so well in all my life for as long as I can remember. I’m no longer having days or weeks where I’m blind. My vision stopped fluctuating. For the first time since I was a 15 year old girl, my eyesight is now stable. And I can see. It’s a whole new life for me that I’m still adjusting and getting used to. I’m seeing peoples faces now for the first time. People I’ve known for ten years. I’m seeing that peoples faces are shaped differently and people’s noses are shaped differently. I’m at a loss of words, honestly. I cannot express how much gratitude I have for Dr. Mlynski. But I also want to add in my review all of the wonderful women who work here as well. Everyone went above and beyond, wanting me to see.

Samantha was extremely helpful!! She took her time, she helped me with what looked best since I came in alone. Lol
She explained every single option, what they meant & which ones I could add to my Transition lenses. To top it all off, she even went to the extent of pricing out my glasses with & without using insurance to make sure I got the best pricing & still get what I was hoping for!

Friendly and patient, I’m terrible to examine, my anxiety kicks in and I just can’t focus, Doctor and staff kept reassuring me in a kind and light hearted manner, nice people. Hopefully I will like my glasses🤓

This location has the very best people! Professional, helpful, and full of knowledge. Not just the wonderful doctor, who has a wonderful "bedside" manner, but also the front staff. MARIVEL, who helped be check out, was very good at her job, she was able to explain, my own insurance plan to me, and what was the best bang for my buck, so to speak. She was friendly, relateable, and most of all Professional. Looking forward to picking up my glasses.

I went there a couple months ago and was helped by Cari. She was very friendly and gave me some good tips about my insurance. I would definitely come back again.

I highly recommend America's Best for their exceptional eye care services. The eye specialists are truly amazing, and the front desk staff are equally perfect, Kenny is amazing. I had a terrible experience with them four years ago, but now, the service has improved drastically, and all the employees are extremely polite and knowledgeable about their products. They have exceeded my expectations and have all the answers to all my questions. I give them a 100% recommendation.

Dr was thorough and helpful and made recommendations based on issues I told him I was having.
Samantha helped me with my frames and she was very nice and listened to me as well. The price was lower than I expected. Best experience I've had in the last few years! Definitely would recommend them!

Our experience was great! Everyone was very polite the greeting was spontaneous and our customer service rep was so helpful in explaining our options to us in a timely manner! We will be going back for our annual eye exams also!

I've been going here since I was 10 with the exception of a few other places and this place always always has me leaving happy with my purchase and my experience and after 30years I'm happy to say they truly are America's best😊

Don’t judge a book by its cover. America’s Best may not seem like your first choice but it’s all about the experience and people. Carrie in McHenry was a breath of fresh air! Great customer service seems hard to find these days, but Carrie reminded me that it’s not difficult to be courteous while doing your job. In fact, she was not only friendly, oh no, she was humorous and personable! She did her job of explaining the details to me but in a much more entertaining and delightful way. She was an authentic human, and I appreciate that. I will certainly be returning to this location merely for Carrie alone. My overall experience here was two thumbs up. Other staff members were friendly as well and it was an efficient and smooth eye exam process.

My visit was on 10/07/23 @ 10 am. Everyone was so professional!!! From checking in, getting my exam to meeting the doctor and then lastly with Marivel. Thank you so much for a great and easy experience.

First time adulting in an America’s best (just turned 18) and I was pretty nervous. Samantha took care of my after the appointment and she was so patient and kind. Hadda blast pickin out the glasses i wanted and really enjoyed the experience! Thank you guys for making adulting easy

I can’t recommend americas best in mchenry enough. Very affordable, high quality glasses even without insurance. The eye exam is a breeze and they get you in and out within minutes. Cari is also wonderful. She is very knowledgeable with the different options for your prescription, different coatings for your glasses, and best of all her personality is 10/10. Great company, and great location.

I had read reviews of this store and there were some bad ones. But there were enough good ones for me to take a chance and try them for the first time. It was fantastic. I don't know what anyone could complain about. Everyone was very nice and helpful. The exam was very thorough. I got the $69.99 deal. There was a good selection of frames. There was no pressure to upgrade. I got my new glasses in two weeks and love them. I highly recommend going here.
