York Beach Surf Club

My husband and I cannot stop gushing about how much we loved our stay here. I really don't understand most of the negative reviews. Our room was comfortable and clean. We had a great side view of the ocean from our balcony. We climbed up three flights of stairs and didn't complain because we don't need an elevator.
The staff was super friendly. We loved hanging by the pool on Saturday! They had the pool bar open and music playing. Everything was so clean..even the poolside bathrooms!
We have six kids and this was our first time away from them in two years. It was the perfect atmosphere for us, yet seemed totally family friendly as we saw plenty of parents with their kids.
We can't wait to come back here again in the future!

We booked this at the start of the summer for Labor Day weekend after seeing it written up in Travel & Leisure (good work, PR team!). I had no idea what to expect as I had not been to York in a long time. This property is a DELIGHT!

From the moment we checked in, we felt genuine hospitality. After a long day at work and a long drive - we were welcomed by Taylor - one of the owners - who poured us a much-needed drink and chatted with us. We were put in vacation mode from there on out.

The rooms are clean, comfortable, and have everything you need: a mini fridge, coffee maker (although the drip coffee at the coffee bar is SO GOOD!), toiletries including makeup remover wipes, and VERY comfortable pillows.

The food & beverage options are perfect - you can get a bite or a drink at almost any time. The cocktails are inventive. The wine list is great.

The location for us was perfect. The resort is at the end of Long Sands Beach (south side) and is less chaotic than further north in York. Check the tide as this is not a steep beach, so you have to think of it as going 2x per day -- we went in the am to sit on the beach, left and had lunch, swam in the pool, and then walked the beach as the tide rolled out in the afternoon. It was perfect for us.

The pool provides a nice break from the ocean. There are two saltwater pools in one area. It can be a bit of a scene. On one day when I was there, one pool was quieter with couples and friends, and the other had families. The next day, it was like a club... literally something for everyone.

I highly recommend a visit to York Surf Club - they know real hospitality, and it was a genuine pleasure to stay there.

My husband and I stayed here for a night, and WOW are we impressed! The check-in process was quick and the gentleman helping us was so nice and helpful. He showed us where we can get food, as well as coffee and cocktails, right here on the property!

When we got to our room, I was blown away by how pretty it was! The rooms are very modern, and the patios are spacious! We loved that we could see the ocean from our patio! Even the bathroom was beautiful!

The beds are SO SO SO comfy. I could have slept all day! I’ve never been so comfortable at any hotel… ever!

Although we didn’t try the food, everything looked great. They even have food service at the pool (As well as a bar)!!

We cannot wait to come back!! I will be telling everyone about York Beach Surf Club!!

We LOVE this place! My wife and I have come here 2 summers in a row from central Maine. Both years were for my birthday weekend. Last year we were blown away by the guest services. A nice man last year walked around the pool, asking how things were, the front desk clerk was super kind and accommodating, just blown away at house kind the staff was. This year there were more things added, like the pool bar was a nice new touch, the food truck out front, more chairs and places to relax. I will say that the service wasn't as astounding as last year. The young lady working this weekend at the front desk (7/28-7/30) didn't seem like she wanted to be there. I felt like we were just a bother to her. I tried to be funny and chat with her, I got eye rolls and sighs. Basically ignored haha. It's whatever though, we didn't let it ruin our weekend, we just talked with other staff instead. That being said, the rooms are always clean. Ironically we've gotten the same room Both times. But very clean, extremely comfortable beds and pillows, and the chairs on the balcony are perfect. The pool is quaint and just what you need to cool off and relax. It's never so busy there that you can't have a good time there. The drinks and food are delicious too! Honestly, we thoroughly enjoy this hotel and we will 100% be going back next summer for my birthday weekend again. 10/10 reccomend and can't wait to return!!

I booked this hotel on a whim after our other vacation location was cancelled due to reasons out of our control. I wasn’t sure what to expect— the reviews were a little iffy, but those seemed to be from before the hotel went under new management. I’m glad I gave York Beach Surf Club a try— it was a good value and a good experience.

What comes to mind when I think of this hotel is “the little hotel that could.” It’s clear a lot of love and attention has been put into the remodel. I’d say they are 90% there, but a few things were still a little rough around the edges (eg the pool restroom was almost always out of TP and it’s sink clogged, etc).

I will say I was very impressed by the staff. It was clear everyone was working really hard to please the guests and I experienced service that was really great from every staff member I encountered. I got the sense most were wearing multiple hats and they seemed little overwhelmed by that, but they were bending over backwards to help guests. They were very accommodating to requests and went out of their way to help.

When we arrived at 5:30pm our room wasn’t ready yet, which was a minor inconvenience. However, When we went to check out I noticed that our dinner from a previous evening hadn’t been put on our room bill and I notified the clerk so we could pay our check. He stated that a room credit had been put on our account by the manager due to the later check in time, and that it covered the cost. That was very kind and unnecessary of them, and much appreciated.

It was great having a little restaurant on site, and surprising for a hotel of its size. I saw other reviews complaining about the pricing, but I think it’s pretty comparable to what you would get in a vacation spot. The food was very good and very fresh tasting— I was impressed they were able to put out food of that quality. Having a little cafe there was nice.

The pool area was a treat, and we ended up spending a lot more time there than expected. One feature that I REALLY appreciated was the towel service. There was a bar there were you could get food and drinks delivered to you— the young lady at the bar was very kind and obliging to every request. I enjoyed the loungers and the umbrellas and the heated pool. They are small, but very nice for what they are. The long sands beach is just down the road, but we ended up spending more time at the hotel pool than at the beach.

The outdoor lounging area near the restaurant area was also a nice feature— very comfortable furniture. The downside is the busy road between the total and the view of the ocean, but nothing they can do about that.

The hotel room had been nicely redone. We had read about the lack of cable TV in the rooms, so we brought our own Roku and that was a perfectly fine solution. The hotel is smart not to spend the money for cable that most people won’t use, but I think older travelers might have an issue with it and won’t know how to use their own tech to watch something, so just something to be aware of.

The linens were clean and comfortable. The bed is VERY soft— it felt very luxurious, but I would have preferred something I didn’t sink into quite as much— but that’s a personal preference.

A couple critiques of the room that have been brought up by other travelers— there really should be more options for sitting/posing luggage. There was one small bench and a metal disk-shaped chair, and that was it, so even with 3 small suitcases (carry on size) it did become cumbersome. There is only a tiny 1/2 sized wardrobe for hanging thingsMore hooks to hang towels or other on would also have been good. There was a good sized fridge, which was appreciated, and a small counter near it, but otherwise no real area to pose any items. Same thing with the bathroom— there really wasn’t any counter space for toiletries, though there was a deep drawer. The bathroom was very small, but it had been nicely redone, and the shower was clean and had good pressure.

All in all I would recommend York Beach Surf Club as a good value and an “up and coming” hotel.

An awesome place with an awesome vibe. The room was clean and very nice with comfortable beds. The owner was our bartender our first night here and was very nice to us and made sure we had everything we needed. 10/10 will come back here

I absolutely loved my stay here. Yes, there is no elevator…but reading reviews prior I knew what to expect. I met some amazing people (one I will never forget) and my room and view were incredible. The owner was very personable and was constantly on top of things. The beach across the street is rocky, but was the perfect place to sit, enjoy great company, and appreciate the moon reflecting off the water as well as the stars in the sky. I am normally a person who travels and visits a location, marks it off, and moves onto the next…I definitely plan on returning here!

Booked for 2 night on a great off season rate with our 2 kids. Owner and his dad were VERY friendly and greeted us before even getting out of the car. They have updated this place greatly. The pool was great for the kids. The had 2 bars, oysters and great pizza. All the staff was super nice. Across from the ocean. We stayed up late next to the fire pit. Will be back!

Would absolutely go back to York Beach Surf Club again. Stopped by after a long work weekend to just relax for a sip of coffee inside their lovely cafe and was greeted by the owner, Taylor, who made me one of the best iced chai lattes I’ve had in a while. My husband and I kicked back in the cafe and relaxed after a long work weekend. The entire staff was extremely friendly and kind. We also ordered the most delicious wings we have ever had and i when i say I seriously cannot wait to bring some of our photography clients back here I mean it. Thank you so much for allowing us to chill at your cafe and get some work done while chowing down on some epic wings.
Also I will say this this space is extremely inclusive and have all gender bathrooms which we really loved to see 💕 y’all rock !

Amazing place right on York Beach! Lovely rooms with very comfortable beds, great shower and balcony with view of the ocean. Outdoor lounge with food and drinks as well as heated pool with a bar. Got a latte and walked on the beach before a delicious breakfast! Very friendly staff. We loved our time here!

This is exactly what we have been waiting for in New England!! We love the York Beach surf club and cannot wait to come again and again! Cannot beat this location. Right on the beach! We stayed in a homey bungalow with pristine, minimalistic, and clean furniture. The pool is amazing and unlike anything you’ll find in New England. The bar tenders are very friendly and make such fun cocktails. The cafe equally as good for a morning coffee. The entire hotel staff is welcoming and eager to assist in any way. They were helpful in recommending restaurants and things to do in the York area! Such a cute town. The owner happened to be on site during our stay and was eager to meet guests and even bought us a round of cocktails! We already booked our next stay and cannot wait to bring more friends and family along next time!

I stayed here for the first time in September and I really loved it! The rooms were immaculate and the staff was very accommodating. I look forward to staying here again.

I absolutely LOVED my stay at this hotel. The staff were beyond friendly and the hotel itself is a beautifully located, gorgeously designed space! I was so happy to stay for a night, eat from their delicious fall menu and sample local beers at the Pineapple Cafe. The continental breakfast was also great. Fresh baked flaky, buttery pastry??!! What more could you ask for?! So so good. I can't wait to come back here and bring friends. :)

My wife and I checked in on 9/29/22. We planned on staying 2 nights, but sadly, my wife had a death in her family. This was only after checking in a few hours prior that we received the notice. We spoke to Taylor and explained our situation. We wanted to leave that night but were to tired from the drive there from PA. We asked Taylor if he would credit the 2nd night back under the circumstances, and without hesitation, he did. He was under no obligation to do that, however, he showed my wife great compassion. The room was great and the food at his cafe was delicious!! I highly recommend this great hotel to anyone visiting the area. The rooms are so nice and the food is great. More importantly, Taylor, the owner is a man of compassion and very accommodating.

We checked in without an issue and was assigned the desired room. The room was cleaned from top to bottom. My wife and I enjoyed the Quaint coffee bar/restaurant instead of the typical mr coffee and typical aged package coffee hotels have in the rooms. We recommend the Breakfast burrito!!! The outside bars at the pool and lawn provided a convenient option for drinks while enjoying the live music!!! We heard the same owners purchase to Sea Latch Inn at Long Sands where we had stayed in the past. I believe great changes are coming to the hotel too! The service was incredible and we would like to thank all the staff for a wonderful vacation!

A class act… definitely a step up from other York lodgings. Our family weekend at York Surf Club was memorable. Great service by all the hotel staff ..all were so pleasant and accommodating. Cafe for morning coffee a must!!! Rooms were very clean .. great comfortable beds! Great view of ocean from our Oceanside deck. The 2 pools were just right for all family members… having a Caribbean musical flare..frozen drinks & tasty chicken wings poolside.. a great touch!! Definitely a place our family will return to at least once every summer!!!

My husband and I just spent 3 days and 2 nights here. Please don’t let some of the poor reviews deter you - this place was perfect! The hotel itself and the room was super clean, modern yet retro, and cute. Every area we walked into I thought to myself “oh this would look cute in my house.” The pools are awesome and the umbrellas/chairs are adorable - the whole vibe of this place is amazing. The outdoor seating area facing the ocean can’t be beat. Ample seating and little fire pits. The employees here are soooo so wonderful, specifically Sarra and Alexis; they were fun and made our stay extra special. There was live music one night during our stay which was a really awesome touch.

We stayed in the Fido-Friendly building even though we didn’t have a dog and it was exactly as pictured on the booking site. We had a great ocean view and even though we saw dogs at the resort all weekend, we never heard them - so the insulation must be great :)

Owner is also super friendly and spent some time with us at checkout to make sure everything was great.

We will absolutely be back!

Goodbye dingy New England beach hotels! This place is truly stepping up the game for all local hotels. The staff here is legitimately friendly and the whole culture feels very relaxed. Rooms are clean and modern, pool area is great, love the booze trucks and the gas fire pits over looking the beach are all great touches. My 1 draw back is just a personal preference that the beds are a little soft for my taste, but I’m sure others would love it.

This was my second stay and loved every minute of it! Staff was very accommodating and the room was awesome. Plenty of space and a great ocean view. Spent most of our time at the 2 pools. Food and drinks were great. Highly recommend as these guys know how to run a resort!

Our stay was over quiet season and it was such a great experience! From the friendly checkin to the comfy bed, clean style and ocean view - we would highly recommend. The coffee shop connected to the YBSC is probably THE BEST coffee shop in the area. I had to work a few hours and it was a great place to enjoy a couple great coffees and fun upbeat music. So easy to walk the beach just across the street. Will definitely be back. Thanks William!
