El Mexicano

We moved from Texas and heard that this was the place to get the real deal. I didn't expect it given the generic red sign out front and being in a sort of strip-mall place... I was wrong to presume.

Its really really good. When I surveyed my born and raised TX wife, she says its not as good as TX but its EXTREMELY close and it's good as it gets. The food was excellent, servers were friendly, I could tell right when I walked in that several of the patrons were frequent flyers and that was a good sign. The waiters conversing amongst themselves in Spanish was also a good sign. The fresh ingredients and great presentation was obviously also a huge plus.

A lot of the food on the menu is Tex-Mex but there's a few true MX dishes on there too like your birrias and al pastors, things like that. They have fresh made corn and flour tortillas, a staple down south that's pretty rare up here. Usually you're eating something made by Ortega. Not here!

Anyhow we don't live too far away, we'll be back. Don't bother with any other TXMX food in ME if you're close enough to El Mexicano.

I really enjoyed this place. I went for the first time with a group of work pals and there was plenty of room. The service was great and the food was outstanding!!! I hope to come back again soon. ♥

The service was Excellent, and the server was more than polite, and understanding. The food, and the "rita's" was exquisite. I totally recommend this place if you are in the mood for great Mexican food, or a Great Margarita, with very incredible staff! One of my favorite places to go for take out, or Dine in!

1st time for my husband and I at El Mexicano Restaurant in Sanford, ME and we weren't disappointed! Lots of choices, generous portions, fresh ingredients, good flavor, beautiful presentation and excellent service. I had 2 different kinds of tacos w/rice and beans. My husband had fajitas. And price? Could not believe how much food we got for not a lot of $.

We stopped here for lunch on a whim. Service was excellent and attentive and helpful. Place was very clean and the food, was extraordinary! It was a lot and we both brought home leftovers.

We will definitely go back again! Very nice gem of a place in Sanford.

The food is AMAZING, well priced, and good portion sizes. I'm definitely going back. The art was beautiful. Our server was great. Baja fish taco is highly recommended.

The food is really good and inexpensive. Usually I go for carnitas, but today I tried their fish tacos (they have two kinds) and thought they were good-not great. My friend said that he'd been there at least 50 times because it's a nice place for a cheap date.

The food was excellent down to the last detail. I had the safnord burrito, which was large, and the flavors were excellent. The chicken was spiced and grilled nicely, and the cheese sauce was flavorful.

My wife had the chicken fajitas, and the meat and veggies were cooked perfectly and had tons of flavor. I've had several friends go here, and nobody has come back with a bad review. I whole heartedly recommend going to this restaurant.

This place was fabulous! The drinks were great and the food was authentic. Wonderful service. Food arrived quickly. My salad was so well presented. I definitely recommend this place and would go back.

This was my second time visiting this restaurant and I really enjoyed it. I had the Hongos Portabella Ensalada and the churros, both of which were fantastic. It wasn't too crowded even though they were rather busy, the atmosphere was wonderful. Service was prompt and I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience overall. Highly recommend.

Food and drinks are consistently exceptional - authentic & delicious. The staff is always welcoming and efficient. Best restaurant in Sanford, hands down. 🇲🇽

hands down me and my partners favorite restaurant. i thought i’ve had good mexican food until i tried this place!! we’ve been here multiple times and order takeout a fair share from here as well, and our orders have always been correct and tasted like heaven. good job and thank you for being my favorite stop!

Very good for the price. Service a touch slow but fine. Floors are as slippery as an ice skating rink all 3 times I have been here - needs different flooring.

Loved my Cali Burrito. Good vibes. Getting the food was surprisingly slow even though we called ahead for take-out. Maybe we just hit the lunch rush? In the end the wait was worth it. Delicious and big portions. Would recommend.

The best Mexican restaurant I've ever been to (including other states). I'm vegetarian and I have multiple favorite go-tos on the menu. Quality is consistent. The service is always fast and friendly.

I don't give many 5 star reviews but my dinner here was excellent. Plenty of chips and salsa, delicious margarita and chicken enchilada plate and good service. Spare yourself standing in the line at the chain place across the mall and go here instead if you like Mexican.
